Very few people today can speak like this man. Today people have to say "um, aw an an , you know, eh" in each sentence. Could listen to him all day.

    I love this guy!
    "I didn't endanger myself"
says the kid who just spent the whole day riding atop of sharp discs pulled by a tractor that throws rods out the engine

Wonderful to hear his story. I am younger (65), so my story version revolves around a John Deere M. My brother has the M. He used it after Grandpa farmed to clean the gutters in his milking barn. I am very fond of the M which now only does my brother's garden work. The M will descend down his line. I would eventually own Farmalls.

Back then parents had trust in teaching their kids. Life is about experiences. Teach your children well and put faith in them.
My Dad had to throw silage from way up an old silo when he was 6. He's 87 now. His Dad had faith in him.

James thanks for a great story of you and the Moline. We did things on the farm that today would be considered child endangerment. My first tractor drive was a iirc a AC D14 tricycle front. It had a two speed hand clutch high neutral low. Must have been around 8 and foot could not reach the other tractors with a foot clutch.

It's interesting to see how far tractor development has come. Every tractor builder was trying their idea at how to replace horses. It was the Farmall Regular that was a big breakthrough that set the standard for row crop tractors. Ironically IHC's pre-Farmall competitive version of the Moline Model D in my opinion was a disaster, prone to tip over with a high center of gravity. It looks like Moline over came some of that with cement wheel weights.

Short of driving old Ford 8Ns and later getting a 1956 Minneapolis Moline 335 utility for myself followed by a 1948 MM "G" and a 1970 MM G705 which are huge.
My favorite though is my 1948 Case VAC utility as it and Farmalls were what had as toy tractors as kids...I still have my 1959 red pedal tractor I got new...
Us "old kids" will always treasure the memories.

I grew up on an Oliver 66 and 77. My brother still has the 66. The 77 went to a collector. When we started driving, to stop, we would put the tractor in neutral, stand on the brake pedals, and pull up on the steering wheel to get enough weight on the pedals, to get it to stop.

Pretty much all the farm boys are operating tractors and even trucks on
the farm at eight! One learns driving and operating machinery and
mechanics on a farm at a rather early age! If you can reach the pedals
and turn the wheal, you are put on a tractor, usually the older, smaller
one, dad gets the newer one, operating the combine, planter, baler.
You pull wagons and/or disk, next year you will be cultivation and
    plowing to!
