I have a lot more zipper hacks than the ones you have shown. One I have yet to have seen on any zipper repair video and it works. What do you do when the coil zipper stitching breaks off from the tape? You can take a needle and thread and sew it back on by hand. I just sew threads around the coils and even will stitch the coil to the tape. Works like a charm. I also have trouble getting a jeans zipper slider back onto a pair of jeans because the slider has to be put on from the bottom and one can never remove that bottom stop. I have tried to do it from the top but it might be done but it s a real struggle and is too much work to open up the waistband and then sew it back on. I remove teeth very close to the bottom on the side where the slider has come off track. Sometimes with some trouble you can manage to get it back on but there is a cord and it is difficult to get the slider over the cord. I remove just enough teeth so I have an opening to allow me to get the slider back on, The easiest way is too cut through the cord and it slides right on. I then will hand stitch across the area where i removed the teeth so it is well stitched shut and will not pull apart and I do make a heavy damn with my thread so the slider can't go over where i removed the teeth. Usually a slider comes off due to a tooth missing or some other damage to the zipper. I can repair a zipper if the missing teeth are very near the top of near the bottom, I just add a stop to the top portion. The zipper will not zip all the way to the top of the zipper but it will not matter as pans have the flap that closes over the zipper and then a button/snap to hold the waistband closed and is not noticeable. It works similarly for a missing tooth at the bottom where I add a thread dam stop and sew a stop where the teeth are missing and make certain the teeth below will stay stitched shut. Most jeans/pants can be repaired with this method. If teeth are missing in the center of a jean zipper then I can add a stop there provided they can unzip the pants enough to still get them on or you can try your method of replacing missing teeth although I have had poor luck trying to do so. I am not keen on the pinching slider solution as the sliders will usually fail again but for a pocket it might be the best solution as it would be very difficult to get inside to repair the zipper. I never do it on the outside of a coat and choose to replace the slider with a brand new one. As an alteration specialist I save all my sliders if I feel they may still be good and are not junk. I save them usually on zippers I have replaced and may have a tooth missing and the sliders look in good shape. I prefer using brand new but occasionally find that I get some off brand zippers where the sliders will not fit and I can search through my stash for a used one that I might have fit. The only zippers I have not been able to master is trying to get sliders back on invisible zippers. I have tried and tried and watched videos with little luck. The time i spend trying to fix them end up taking me longer than putting in a new one and is my last resort. I hope you are aware that zippers can be shortened and sometimes I save zippers I remove from clothing in case i need a shorter zipper tat is in good shape. I also found that most jean sliders rarely go bad and can be saved and reused so I do not normally buy new.
