the fact that he joined to jyp with zero dance skills says a lot about him, all the effort he has put in in 5 years is reflected in this performance and in every dance he does, his movements are delicate but at the same time powerful, his facials expressions are always on point, also he choreographed this, it’s insane, yes, this is hwang hyunjin from stray kids
He did a contemporary piece using Billie Eilish’s When the Party’s Over. It is a totally different feel but the msg of loneliness was so profound in the dance. For this one, it is more like a shedding of an image dance. He started of very beautifully and immaculately dressed. Hair all nice and princely with a cape. All his clothes are on place and buttoned up, a white prince with this picture perfect image, as he could see in the mirror. However, parallel to his real life, his is an idol who can only be silent on a lot of things (the chocking motion). He is well aware of what his limitations are. He was breaking free, an organized chaos, if you will, with his dance. Freeing motion but at the same time still silent (that finger on his lips of silencing motion). The music and lyrics bespoke of that too, Kings and Queens of the Ruckus. That demented, unhinged smile, the blooming rose that is spoiled towards the end. He is saying that he is not that perfect in his perfection. Towards the end everything is undone, his shirt was untucked and loose. But still silent and stifled in his silence, again with the ending chocking pose. His msg is pretty clear to me. He is NOT a perfect prince. He IS playing with fire, he is probably burning himself inside out. What a beautiful piece. And here I thought his choreo in When the Party’s Over was super beautiful, he went and gave another brilliant performance.
I don't know if you noticed this but he choreographed this by himself. Hyunjin was street casted and he had no experience in dancing before. He trained for 2-3 years before debuting with Stray Kids. At the beginning he wasn't good and was scolded about his dancing skills, people keep telling him he doesn't need to do anything to debut because he can make it with his face only, but it hurt his pride to the point he started practicing extra hard, joined the SOPA and made his way to the Stray Kids as the main dancer. After debuting he took some classes of contemporary dance he showcased in his When The Party's Over dance (also choreographed by himself). But the main point why he became so good is that the dancing became his greatest passion. He is practicing almost his all free time, even other members said all he is thinking is dancing. He even said that when he want to take the break he thinks that someone over there is probably practicing right now so he just get back to training. You need to watch some compilation of his vlive dances, especially his freestyle dance, you can clearly see his passion and love for dance. Dancing and expressing himself by dance became his life. He treat it not as just work but a passion and art, he has really artistic soul, he can't help but creating art, trough his dancing, painting and even making bracelets. He is not just a dancer. He is an artist.
I think you didn't noticed that it's his own choreography, cause you said "they added", complete performances, choreo, outfits, idea, locations, camera angles, everything was Hyunjin's concept ♥️ And yes, it's definitely a piece of fine art
You asked if there was anything you didn't catch, and that you thought the choking move was a great hook, so some context- during his hiatus, not only was hyunjin not active, but the other members weren't even allowed to say his name. Jyp has an app called bubble, where you can pay to send idols texts every day- hyunjin has said that he never used to be able to sleep, but now he can because he can listen to fans tell him about their day and feel connected to them- he was cut off from that too. He was in one episode of kingdom, impossible to edit him out- so they silenced him, and cut away every time he was going to speak.
I feel like the few weeks leading up to his hiatus, and then the 4 month hiatus itself was just a rollercoaster of emotions for him, and he took us through that in this performance. He's just incredible, and I can't wait to see what he does next! You should definitely check out Stay Kids when you find the time, you will not regret it. Hyunjin did a dance cover to Billie Eillish's "when the party's over" about 2 years ago, it's also fantastic.
I'm so happy you enjoyed his piece. Hyunjin has a lot of charisma when he is performing. He's one of the most beautiful and good looking idols out there but he always says he wants to be recognized more for his dancing skills rather than just for his looks. I think he's playing with that statement here. He portrays this "immaculate prince vibe" at the beginning but he can also plays with fire and burnt everything surrounding him with his moves. You will be surprised by his talent. He has another beautiful piece but is more contemporary (also choreographed by him): th-cam.com/video/bY_TqcsMyHM/w-d-xo.html and he currently owns the most watched 4th gen male idol fancam, with this Red Velvet cover: th-cam.com/video/0Y8HdSGRaSs/w-d-xo.html Stray Kids is one of the most versatile group I know. They are 8 members (originally debuted as 9) and they all can rap, sing and dance pretty well. They're also a self-produced group. 3 of the members of Stray Kids (better known as 3RACHA) compose, produce and write all of their music. The leader of the group, Bang Chan, selected his own members. He even created their name and their logo. They composed a pre-debut album 'Mixtape' and released a pre-debut song called 'Hellevator'. And after doing a survival show where they proved to JYP how good they are, they finally debuted with District9. The rap line is STRONG on this group. Hyunjin is part of the DanceRacha unit with 2 more members: Lee Know(Minho) and Felix. A quick fun fact about Lee Know. Before debuting, he was a very good dancer on a dance studio and he even was selected as a back up dancer for BTS. He's the dance leader of the group. If you want to check out one of his dances, here's the link: th-cam.com/video/jRL9J-S78yE/w-d-xo.html But all of them can dance pretty well and they have powerful choreographies. Thank you so much for your reaction. I'll be looking forward to more Stray Kids content. 😊😊😊
I become STAY (Stray kids fandom name) around 3 months ago. And they are so talented. I love them so much. Yes, they are art pieces. Btw i love your reaction so much
Thank you for praising his hard work @Donkawaii ! Did you noticed he choreographed this dance himself ? He also choreographed another one himself ? Please do watch more of Stray Kids’ dance practice videos , I think you would like them: “ Back door “ and “ God’s Menu “ and “ Easy “ !
Great reaction, one of the best, and there are a lot because the video went viral. What's interesting to know is that Hyunjin was on a hiatus for 4 months because an old schoolmate accused him of bullying when he was 13 years old. In Korea, the image of kpop idols has to be immaculate, so his company put him on a hiatus while the rest of Stray Kids performed weekly on a competition show called Kingdom (which they eventually won without him). All his pent-up energy, his stifled emotions were conveyed through this dance which he dropped when his hiatus ended (end of June). On a side note, apart from a main dancer, he's the rapper of the group (totally different vibe when he's rapping).
He has one more choreography video for billie eillish when the party's over with a beautiful cinematography as well. Stray kids is a self produced group, they do everything and the director of this mv has been working with stray kids so many times now so he probably talked with hyunjin on how the video should look. Loved your take on this, looking forward to more hyunjin or skz reactions. If you're gonna check out the group, I recommend Miroh dance practice.
Watching you - a dance teacher reacts to hyunjin really makes me tear up. Im so proud of hyunjin.. Thank you so much . Can't wait for your other reactions to hyunjin.. Hyunjin psycho cover and billie ellish please..
Thanks for your reaction to hyunjin, yes this is a dance art piece. Please check out more of players of hyunjin and Stray kids, I'm glad to see your reaction to them. They're so talented.
I really enjoyed your analysis of this! Love Hyunjin (and all of Stray Kids) so much, I’m so happy he’s back! You mentioned how he moved and executed both traditional male and female moves really well. He actually did a cover of Red Velvet’s Psycho with other idols that were all born in 2000. You can watch the full video or just the fancam of Hyunjin, but he pulls off those feminine moves SO well. He’s definitely not afraid to fully immerse himself into whatever role he’s given.
Loved your assessments of Hyunjin’s dance performance. He is so handsome and outstanding when he dances. You should watch his Artist of the Month piece with music by Motley Crew. Gorgeous!❤❤❤❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥🔥🔥🔥👀🥰🥰🥰
Very interested and details reaction ...I was enjoyed. I want more reaction to Hyunjin dances on fancam please...like psycho ,billie ellis cover, hardcarry etc. please....I subscribed you. Nice...can not wait..

Wow I love your interpretation of this dance piece 👏🏾

I love this coming up story behind Hyunjin already. Thank you for this! =)
“He attacked me…I don’t know what he wants from me”. I feel you bruh. He extracted my soul to him.
Hyunjin’s facial expression is the best
Hyunjin being listed along with taemin and kai the legends im hella proud of him😭😭

Omg I'm going to cry
ah..that kingdom episode was hard to watch..i could see they were putting something on his face to hide his face..ahhhh
Hyunjin also performed a cover of Taemin's Criminal.

I love Hyunjin and he's an amazing dancer but the flower in the mouth and dancing in the spotlight felt so 80s and corny :/
and the mime artist stuff @15:29 but bless him for trying it out. Loved his AOTM though!
