In general, I think the Tascam has a little more open and airy sound which I prefer. I have the Zoom H5 and the Tascam X8 and have noticed the same thing with my recorders, maybe even a bit more noticeable with the H5. I really like the x8 sound and feature set.
oh wow the Tascam sounds soooo good, i'm so glad i watched this video, the Zoom sounds super compressed and the Tascam sounds more textural and delicious. Now i know what to buy x
Zoom has more brightness but I'm not sure it's more accurate. X8 is smoother sounding and still very detailed. Almost sounds cleaner. Although honestly I don't trust the setup. I'd like to hear a midi triggered playback directly into each device.
Hi Thanks for the video, very very little difference to my ears. I thought the H8 sound was a little fuller than Tascam. I do own the H8(Short film and documentary +Foley) but that did not sway my opinion.I know the Tascam has 32bit float but not a major issue for me. Careful gain adjustment works well. After all, you have experienced the two products, Zoom H8 and Tascam H8. If you had to choose between the two, what would you choose? Hope to hear your subjective suggestions!
After listening through some good headphones, personally I feel the Zoom sounds boomy and a bit exaggerated lacking definition in the bottom end, lacking some upper mid clarity as well. The Tascam sounds even with great clarity throughout frequency range and excellent definition in the low end. I feel like the Tascam may be a better recorder, but that also may be bias from prior comparisons between recording on Zoom vs Tascam in the past. It's hard to tell without hearing the source material accurately reproduced with my own ears.
We will be recording our bands gigs with the X8 (strangely, there is no one recording their band or gig with the X8, on YT anyway, which is very strange) Can you record to a Seagate Expansion Portable Drive 2TB or similar? Thanks.

Hi I must ask can you do a multi track recording on the t8? like record and then record another sound on a different tack?
Not sure which model you're asking about as "t8" doesn't exist. There's X8 and H8 and yes, you can do what you ask on either one of these recorders.
@@PianoManChuck I mean Tascam X8. Oh you can? Because I been looking and looking for that. On zoom it is called oversample I think..right?
It goes by a few names: Overdub, Punch In/Out, etc. See Pg 50 of the Portacapture X8 Reference Manual.
