    I love water lilies! They just bring a serene feel to the pond as well as help the pond and life in the pond. I can’t wait to see them start to grow and finally flower it’s worth the wait. Even if the don’t have a scent they are just beautiful to look at

    Lol my fish hide if someone walks within 10m of them. If I got in with them they would probably jump out ! Love the video :)

      To Funny, it’s all about trust, build on the trust. If the fish hide, couple of things, young fish, bad water quality, feeling run down, solutions, can you improve the water quality, are the fish happy as in enrichment, if they are young encouraging them to come over, hold the pellet food in your hand. Sit don’t tower over them, slow moments.

      Yes very much over looked. Some ponds you don’t need to as the fish waste will feed them, however in ecosystem ponds or sterile koi ponds you need to feed them

    My nan has water Lily’s in her small pond today I clean the water in her pond and I found the Lily’s they were just little stubs and tubas since we got them last year how can I make them flour this year also whe I cleared it out int the fountain filter there were little red worms is that something I need to worry about

    • @ThePondAdvisor
      @ThePondAdvisor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No don’t worry about the worms just means you have planting media. The lilies will be just showing themselves at the moment. Watch the up and coming re potting video, it’s still a little early to repot you lily’s. In early April

      Is the pond already in the ground? What system do you currently have or want? Ecosystem pond, traditional fish pool, what’s the pond for? Are you good at diy projects? What space do you have? What’s your budget?

      @@ThePondAdvisor The pond has yet to be dug mark it can be a bit smaller I all ready have a small fish pond that I want to replace hence the larger pond I only have about£250 for the pump and filter but with limited work since civic that is what I have to work with. Morning mark I contacted you the other day and asked a question and got a rapid reply thanks. Could you advise me again I am looking for a mechanical filter and pump for a 7,500 litre pond that I am going to shortly dig can you recommend anything on a limited budget thanks again for your time. Carl

    • @ThePondAdvisor
      @ThePondAdvisor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for reaching out again, an affordable mechanical filter is a proper pond skimmer, 7500 litres is a fairly medium/large pond. I would recommend a 400 skimmer. 6” weir door, it’s not got an adjustable faceplate but it’s a cracking filter for collecting mechanical waste

      th-cam.com/video/n7-AtVJUVjE/w-d-xo.html
      If you find the aquatic soil Leaches out line the basket with underlay! Or use solid pots like a washing up bowl, cut some holes in the side only for anchorage, as the lily grows the plant will want to float but if you have a hole in the side the roots will hold the plant in the pot.

    Hello, this is a Question off topic, but I'm constantly getting heron's attacking my pond, when I'm away on holiday would it be OK if I covered my pond with tarpaulin, or is it vital my koi receive daylight. The pond will have a pump and filter constantly running and the tarpaulin will be suspended 1 foot above the water. Many thanks Jason

    • @ThePondAdvisor
      @ThePondAdvisor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes you can cover the pond, but word of warning if the tarp falls and hits the surface it could stop oxygen exchange so support it well and 30cm 1 foot is good. Why can’t you net the pond?

    • @jasonwilson7674

    • @ThePondAdvisor
      @ThePondAdvisor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jasonwilson7674 if they can’t get to the pond due to a net, it’s better than tarpaulin potentially blocking out oxygen with the weight of rain or something hitting the structure, had branches or wind blown items collapse sails and tarps before. A net will still protect the fish and not block out O2
