You are wayyyy too underrated for my liking... No shade to the other "gurus" out there but they are way too commercialized, their videos are getting quicker and more UNinformative, and you have something that most of them lack... spunkiness. #Donteverchange #EVER!

Just so I'm clear because I was missing some steps:
    1. Prepoo - Got this down
    2. Shampoo - Is this the step with the sulfate free shampoo?
    3. Conditioner - What to use?
    4. Depp Conditioner - Again what to use?
    5. Moisturizing - Got this down
Monthly clarify with a shampoo. What to use?
    Thanks!

I clarify when I think about it and I don't think about it often. I did however clarify this month and the thought came to me, "My hair and scalp feels so clean." I never think that when I co-wash. What I did was put some water in a bowl, mix a little shampoo and poured it on my hair and poured it on the sides and front because that is where it is the driest. I did a quick wash and got it out of my front and sides first then the rest of my head. When I clarify, I do notice that my hair is softer and my curls are more defined even before I put product on my hair. I think I will start clarifying more often.

I prepoo with Jamaican black castor oil, I wash every week with Wen cleansing conditioner and once a month I used the KKKC shampoo as a clarifier. I use Natural Oasis products and KKKC to style, and Deva chans Heaven in Hair as a deep conditioner. My hair rarely feels dry with this regimen, if it does I use a QRedew. In the summer it can get to 109 to 114 degrees so I will wash my hair more often when the temp rises.
So enjoying your videos, must say, been feeling my hair and accepting that this is what grows out of my head and it is wonderful. Thank you so much.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on clarifying. I am a big co-wash believer. However, I use the As I Am Coconut Cowash instead of a plain conditioner. This does a really good job in cleansing my hair and scalp. I have no visible build-up.
However, I still use the Aubrey Green Tea Clarifying Shampoo about once every month. You are right, it is like pressing that reset button and doing a nice deep cleansing.

I never clarified before. So let me make sure I have the right steps down. first pre poo, overnight than rinse out than apply the clarifying agent than rinse out.DO I shampoo and condition and deep condition and moisturize as well? I am new to the natural game and I am trying hard not to go back to the creamy crack product(perm/relaxer).

I think shampooing is a must. Especially if you're someone who works out on the regular. I have to wash every third day, at the very least. Co-washing just doesn't get it. Shea Moisture and Carol's Daughter products are great! Your hair is clean without completely stripping moisture from it.

I just recently used clarifying shampoo (Trader Joe's Tea Tree Clarifying Shampoo) as well as my regular regimen items (this month TGIN products with Shea Moisture leave-in conditioner and my essential oil mixture). I did notice how different my hair looks and feels but it never dawned on me that because I was start off with a clean slate, the TGIN products I'm utilizing this month was able to penetrate my hair and scalp so much better which in turn allowed my hair to really benefit from the ingredients in the products. Thank you so much for doing this video. It gave me my "DUH, that makes sense" moment, lol.

I use Loreal EverCréme or EverCurl. They are sulphate free and silicon free cleansing conditioners. The difference between these and Wen is that these actually lather slightly (only way to clean is to lather). I use the same method as you where I only clarify my scalp.

Hi, Nappyfu! I have extremely thick type 4 hair and enjoy your videos immensely due to your realism plus great info. During the last year and half, I learned the hard way that clarifying my hair is mandatory every 3-4 weeks. This maintains a healthy scalp and hair due to my active lifestyle. My favorite clarifying shampoo is Tresemme Deep Cleanse, which eliminates buildup without leaving my hair dry / stiff as cardboard. It’s the only clarifier that left my hair soft and manageable afterwards. 😊👊🏽🙌🏾💆🏽‍♀️💃🏽

I use maui I mask as a leave in and Cantu lotion with coconut oil and castor oil. I have to wash my hair every 3 days. I also use baking soda to rinse my head before the shampoo and conditioner.

First, you crack me up! You make it fun to learn. Second, yes I clarify twice a month. I use organigrow products for low porosity hair. I wash twice - once with the clarifying shampoo and once with a moisturizing shampoo. This leaves my hair/scalp super moisturized and clean. Then I follow with deep conditioner.

I really have no choice. My scalp isn't one to take too much product build up. I tied cowashing for a couple months and my scalp was so itchy....I would get bumps on my head and everything so to avoid that I regularly shampoo and condition with a deep conditioner homemade or store bought. I use Shea Mositure's Coconut and Hibiscus line (just started it yesterday) and I love it! The shampoo doesn't dry my hair out and the conditioner has something that makes my scalp tingle and not itch as much.

  • @LadyRazeli

Well I had intended to say that I clarify my hair every few months or more frequently if I go swimming. But apparently what I've been using is Chelating Shampoo, which isn't the same thing exactly. But I will say this it still bursts in like the 5-0 so I can't complain. I've been through many though starting with Garnier (what a waste). Next was Ion hard water shampoo, it was great, but I still had to start washing with distilled water. But my new favorite is jaico k-pak professional chelating shampoo. This truly cleansed my hair not only of product, but Chlorine from my local pool as well. I had been stalling on wash day and it was starting to get obvious and on top of that I had to load my hair with conditioner and oil to protect it from the chlorine, so needless to say the 5-0 had their work cut out for them.

Hey Nappy fu! I love the content you put out, as an upcoming cosmotologist/hair stylist i took to your channel for the properly researched advice that you give.... keep up the amazing work!
In terms of cleansing both my hair & clients hair I almost always reach for either:
    1. Design Essentials Oat Protein & Henna Deep Cleansing Shampoo
I am able to detangle various textures including but not limited to 2b-4c hair textures. This shampoo let's me detangle while not over stripping the hair. It's a breeze and DRAMITICALLY cuts down on detangling time.
    2. Avlon Keracare 1st Lather Sulfate Free Shampoo. detangles well and removes impurities quite nicely. it doesn't produce a lot of suds but the hair always ends up clean and hair doesn't feel brittle or dry.
I always follow either one of these shampoos with a moisturizing &/or speciality shampoo. I make sure I take this step before a silk press or blowout on natural hair. It really helps clear all the debris out so hair sucks the product right up once I follow up for a special shampoo followed by my deep conditioner.

    • @thefinelife2247

Now I've seen videos about making your own black soap shampoo using the actual soap and letting it sit in a bowl over night until it completely dissolves. Would that be good for a clarifying shampoo? I am trying to remain cost and chemical free because I spend way too much money on shampoos and conditioners.
Can we create our own for our specific hair? I have in the far past used Pantene and Tresemme but I think we need to come out with a line so we can stop spending so much money on styling and maintenance products. #FORUSBYUS

I clarify once a month like clockwork. I use Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle. I used to shampoo with the Shea Moisture Coconut and Hibiscus Shampoo but I didn't feel like my hair was clarified using it. It was soft and it smells great I loved that shampoo (I nearly cried when I gave what was left of it to my sister) but it didn't really clarify for me so I stopped using it since I cowash the rest of the month now.

I am pretty ignorant about caring for myself (dysfunctional childhood). I have a computer now so I can just Google all of my burning question that I didn’t get from adults. So I definitely haven’t even heard of clarifying. I just do the fingernail test. If there isn’t anything in my fingernails when I scratch it, I have successfully cleaned it. I google and saw that baking soda can be used since I am washing my hair today. I’m gonna try and hope that I don’t do anything wrong.

I tried clarifying my hair yesterday afternoon with this shampoo I heard so many people raving about. (Trader Joe'sTea Tree Tingle) WHAT A DISASTER! That stuff made my hair tangle up and matt up so bad. It was as if my hair was locked into one giant dread lock with super glue. After 8 hours of TRYING to unmatt and detangle my hair I ended up chopping off chunks of hair that was totally locked up and matted. That stuff may work for some people, but I will stay far away from it in the future.

    • @ladyewo6778

+Nappy Fu Thank you for your response back. It helped me to do a technique check. I've since clarified using the Trader Joe's Shampoo and conditioner. I did all of the things you said. I prepooed and let the coconut oil and conditioner sit on my hair with two strand twists. I then did my clarifying wash one two strand twist at a time. It worked great. I think I barely got two minimal tangles at the top of my hair. The only thing I did different from before was to use the two strand twist method and I used the downward strokes you mentioned in the video intead of the crazy way I was used to handle my hair when shampooing. I'm glad I followed your two strand twist advice. I actually do enjoy the cool sensation of the Tea Tree Tingle shampoo and am glad that I can use it. I am now 4 and a half months into my transition. My next adventure will be with Henna. :)

***** Hi, Im sorry, I just need one clarification. I know its not good for us 4Cs to use shampoos with sulphates but couldnt those also be used as clarifiers since they completely strip the hair and scalp of everything?

Hi, I am a new subscriber to your channel and I love your videos. I also recently started out my natural journey. I do not what products to use, I have a lot a breakage ,and my hair dries out pretty quickly. What would you advise me to do as far as the products and how I should treat my hair?

Hey Nappyfu! You advise the importance of the pre-poo. I'm thinking that pre-poo wouldn't be necessary if I'm going to give myself a clarifying shampoo. Am I right? What's the 411?

Perhaps it depends on what shampoo you use. Apple cider vinegar helps me to remove some buildup but began doing a salt water rinse once a month for a deeper cleanse.

It depends on what products you use on your hair during the week. If you use silicones, you'll want to use a clarifying shampoo so that your hair is able to receive moisture. (Silicones won't be removed without a clarifying agent and can block your hair from retaining moisture when they build up.)

NappyFu I have never clarified. What your view on the Anti Jackies flaxseed purify me moisturizing Co-wash cleanser, it is good for cleaning the scalp. And how often should one Shampoo and deep condition in a month. I only LCO once in 5 to 7 days . I am low porosity and use light products . for my liquid I use a DIY Rosemary and Thyme with small amount of glycerin, 2 drops, Lavender essential oil and eucalyptus oil, Cream is Chebe shea butter and oil is Grapeseed and Sweet Almond oil.

I am a newbie at being natural. I just made a
year in may and I'm not understanding the difference between clarifying and shampooing? Can you explain this to me?

  • @coral.cc0
    @coral.cc0 7 ปีที่แล้ว

It's been a year for you but for me hhhhmmmmmm I don't know. I don't even know. smh but I don't use butters. However I do use the virgin and my oils and it doesn't look like I have a lot of build up. I've been using my diy black soap since 2016 sometime once a week. I was washing my hair once a month maybe a month and a half before that. I used to do a avc rinse after having braids, or a weave in for a month to a month in a half but I haven't been putting additional hair to my hair for about a year now so it has probably been about a year for me as well since clarifying. I sent you a message on facebook asking for you to do a diy clarifying shampoo since we have recently discovered that acv mixed with bentonite isn't 1. I really hope you'll consider doing this because I love your videos and I swear I was up all night like Jamie Braxton and had me a Nappyfu marathon when I first discovered your channel. Thanks for all of your insight and inspirational quotes that are in the begininnng of your videos. Life :-)
