    Somehow I forgot to bring up the tacked-on multiplayer. Well, I never played it back then, and the servers are dead now, so...I guess you're not missing anything. Though if those resources wasted on the multiplayer were instead spent on the campaign, maybe the game could've been even better. I guess we'll never know.
    Hope you enjoy the video, guys.

      Was pretty cool that the physical PS3 version of Dead Space 2 came with a port of the decent Wii rail shooter Dead Space game on the disc too.
      Pretty cool, as was the PS3 version of Medal of Honor 2010 that came with an HD remaster of Medal of Honor Frontline on the disc too.

      @@Gruntvc Yup, I never had the PS3's wiimote thing but it was still fun on controller. I remember you could spam the melee on controller and it was like a constant lightsaber swipe on your screen.

      I played quite a lot of the multiplayer when the game was still fairly new. It was chaotic to the point where you needed to take a break after 1 hour or so, or at least that's how it was for me. Having players vs necromorphs controlled by players made for quite the spectacle but it wasn't very balanced for the necromorphs side (all a human player need to do is stasis you to death) and with only 1 game mode being populated it died pretty soon, especially since the novelty of it wore off very quickly.

    • @Gruntvc
      @Gruntvc 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @TheShadowReaper, Sounds like AVP 2010 did competitive multiplayer better.
      Pretty chaotic but fun having human Colonial Marines, Xenomorphs, and Predators all battling to the death in one game.

    • @Ak1r0
      @Ak1r0 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@Gruntvc Have played a lot of AVP 2010 as well and I can attest to that. The balance between the factions was better than Dead Space 2 MP and generally great, especially for a 3 factions at the same time battling it out. It wasn't without it's flaws but it was the updated version and what the fans were looking for since AVP2. And it was great. Too bad we never got a sequel in some way.

    Dead Space 2 is definitely my favorite in the series. The action didn't bother me at all and I looked at them as breathers from the rest of the game which is majority horror focused.

  • @Deefromdashadows

    Dead space two was the perfect balance between horror and action hands-down. I’ve never played a single horror game like this…

    • @elimgarak1127
      @elimgarak1127 ปีที่แล้ว

      That there would be the problem. It's not action horror. It was horror. But they went action horror despite the success of just plain horror with sprinkles of action. The set pieces. The lighting. The setting. The pacing. The dialogue. 2 missed the mark in many ways and was a prelude to 3. People just don't like to admit it because then they'd have to admit they don't know much about game design. Shit like 3 doesn't happen without things happening prior and being overlooked by the consumers.

    I think something about the Dead space franchise that I always loved is that Isaac is intelligent and capable. He's not some marvel tier quipper who's constantly talking about everything he sees- he's a practical minded professional who, at this stage in the story, knows exactly what he's up against and how to combat it. It also helps that Gunner Wright (in addition to having a cool name) is a very good VA.

    I'll never forget beating Dead Space 2 on Hardcore mode, one of the greatest achievements of my life! Even though it was about 8 years ago, I still remember I only used the Plasma Cutter and the Force Gun, upgrading them as much as I could. I used my first save at Chapter 7, 2nd save at chapter 11, and 3rd save at chapter 14. Around chapter 12, I traded in my fully upgraded plasma cutter for the Contact Beam, which I was able to fully upgrade with the cash. From there I just used alt fire on the Contact Beam all the way to victory! What a great game, but it sucks about what happened to the franchise after the 3rd one.

    It is a real shame what happened to both Dead Space and its developers.
    Dead Space 3 should've never been co op, it should've stayed single player focused.
    Heck, EA couldn't even copy RE5 right by not limiting content to only online co op.
    EA should HD remaster the Dead Space trilogy with all dlc included, I'd buy that. EA did a good job with the Command and Conquer Remaster Collection this year.

      Coop wasn’t really a bad idea, it was the execution. However, I still think the coop was at least decently well made. Having one player see something the other can’t is still very much Dead Space and was pretty unique to Dead Space. Plus, Visceral always toyed with the idea of coop since the first game.

    i always liked 1 more than 2, it’s been a long time now but i remember it being scarier and harder. honestly though i thought the silent protagonist worked to the game’s benefit. it helped create this lonely, isolated feeling that added to the atmosphere. the disconnect between isaac and the player created by his empty reactions to the messed up shit he sees and general unresponsiveness is an important layer of the game’s horror in my opinion. great video though, 2 is definitely a good game although i kinda wish it just ended there instead of getting what we got next

    The necromorphs aren't really like zombies. Some people are just mentally weak around the markers so even if officers were trained to follow protocols on killing necromotorphs efficiently the markers can still mess with their head and then turn them into the monsters. Basically people that are left are either mentally strong on in the process of becoming insane.
    And knowing how the insanity is dealt with not a lot of people would be keen on getting a giant needle in the eye.
    Awesome video though!
    My favorite dead space was dead space 3 because you could craft guns on there and I thought that was awesome. Plus some optional parts later in the game creeped me out pretty hard.
    Man I wish I could play these game again.

    for the stake thrower if you use the electrify function on a necromorph youve already hit, it will one shot any non boss necro with minimal upgrades.
    full upgrades will take out a pretty much anything except dark elite necromorph and the final boss, provided you hit it in a limb.
    splash from explosion upgrade is decent also.

    Strong disagree on the Flamethrower being shit in this game, once the damage is upgraded you can kill any Necromorphs in mere moments. The alt-fire is shit tho. Also, it's worth noting the devs always wanted more setpieces even in the first game, they just lacked the budget for it, they wanted the game to be "A high budget Resident Evil 4"

  • @agbrenv
    @agbrenv 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I don't think the Plasma Rifle was a bad weapon in the Dead Space universe, it was simply the fact that people shot Necromorphs in the torso or head on instinct which didn't do a whole lot, only a select few people managed to figure out that the key to killing them was shooting off the limbs
    sure cutting and mining equipment was probably more suitable, but the Plasma Rifle wasn't incapable of doing it

    Not sure if you read comments on older videos, but you should play a PS2/Xbox game called Run Like Hell: Hunt or be Hunted. Its a third person action horror that has some eerily similar concepts to Dead Space. Can't really call it a true survival horror since it gives you more than enough resources if you look around them. Its still very fun game with a compelling story and mystery.

    Dead space 2 is better than dead space 1. Also i think isaac is badass in dead space 2 with his dialogues. I think it was a great sequel. Disagree strongly with your review.

    Wow I will pretend that you never said anything about the Flamethrower... It's literally one of the best weapons in the game and outclasses the Plasma cutter when upgraded. You could even say that it's the best gun in the game.

    Never undestood the hate for dead space 3, I think it's a much better game than 1, not as good as 2 but very enjoyable with high replay value.

    23:50, well the less Leapers in Dead Space 2 the better, they overbuffed those enemies and are extremely obnoxious 50% of the time they appear

    I really liked this game until you come back from the solar array. Then it starts ramping up with the enemies constantly popping out of closets in front and behind. By the end it was just tiring to me. It was still a very good game though.

    Dead Space 2 budget was $60m. (“Before $50m budgets got out of hand”). It was as big as games got back in the day. Fun fact: even Mass Effect 2 (and 3) cost less. Your point on sequels is missing two major points: AAA always pushed big budgets - and - important: technology at the time as context. It’s very one dimensional to say: “see 14 years ago sequels took only 2 years. Not like now - when people waste money and time” as you’re implying. No. Games took 2 years because the technology was far less complex and (while tools where more limited) it took less time to make assets. So no - sequels (even good ones like DS2) didn’t require as much production. This is why Dead Space remake cost over $150m. The Calisto Protocol - over $160. If a remake DS2 comes - it will also be a $150m budget most likely. This is not because people are lazy or budgets are too big - even devs in smaller regions struggle with this. Like 2015 Witcher 3 was $81m without marketing - with a team mostly based in Poland. (Cyberpunk 2077 was $500+ including marketing) This is why your point on how much “better” sequels were 10-15y ago is missing a very obvious context of technology and customer expectations. (People expect certain quality and often bitch even about AA and indies if they don’t look in certain way.). Do AAA budgets got out of hand? Sure, no doubt. Big publishers would be smarter to follow AA devs now and make $30-70m games and lower the flop risk, but even Helldivers2 an indie studio AA game (albeit published by Sony) cost around $100m because how detailed and complex it is (despite of being a shooter). So - keep context in mind otherwise your points are not very serious. Source: 3D artist working in/out industry (mostly outside of games - but have many friends) for 25y.

    the reason high ranking unitologists are able to know about necromorphs yet still believe in convergence is because to them, necromorphs ARE convergence. when all the necromorphs gathered around the marker at the end of dead space 2 what they were doing was fusing into one giant necromorph like the hivemind from dead space 1. THAT is convergence. obviously that would be pretty unpalatable to a new convert so the unitologist masses aren't told about what convergence actually is. the high ranking ones are the ones who are committed enough to unitology to know what convergence actually is and still want to achieve it. how can anyone want something like that? well, just look at heaven's gate. cults are crazy in real life let alone in fiction when you get eldritch abominations involved.
    also dead space 3 isn't canon and i don't care what anyone has to say about it.
