Outstanding examples, especially the resonator one. Just a heads up for people trying these patches in the future - in Befaco version 2.1.0 (used here) the Grit Quantity knob is backwards relative to the hardware. The newest update (version 2.1.1, due in the library any day now) fixes this, so now turning the knob to the right (or increasing voltage) increases grit. Just in case it doesn't sound exactly like in the video. Thanks to Omri for the bug report (you can blame him :P) !

This is just great. Getting to this a year late, but I recently built a Percall, and I'm thinking of adding the Noise Plethora.

I just discovered your channel recently and I must say this is my new favorite channels for modular synthesis exploration and education. You definitely deserve more recognition. I really appreciate the VCV examples and explanation as well as the following hardware demonstration of those examples. Noise Plethora and Rampage are both modules I think I can get a lot of mileage out of and will very possibly be my next purchases. Thanks for all that you're doing and contributing to the community! 🤘

The "gritty outputs" patch was lovely, kind of an elegant patch for its simplicity.

This is my favorite Omri-Cohen-video in 2022.I'm working on a patch for a while, that only produces (generative) "noisy" sound-textures. There will be no classic "voice"-type, usable for playing melodies, drones or anything else that sounds like "music" in the common sense. I'm looking for a "bath" in unpredictable, ever changing textures.
This video inspired me to redo those "sounds" that currently do not sound like I want them to sound. I found out, how I can get some of my wanted results in a much simpler way. I always want to keep things simple and clear and minimize the amount of modules in a patch. Modular is no daw.
This video helped me a lot. Thank you for sharing your knowledge about "noise", Mr. Cohen.
    Peace.

Just got my Noise Plethora in hardware and it is a DREAM. Actually unbelievable how much they packed in. THREE analog resonant multimode filters? LOOOOOOOOL
yet it's still totally ergonomic and intuitive, even EASY to use immediately. Like, right out of the box immediate.
and that's not even discussing the noise sources themselves, which are AWESOME
instantly became one of the coolest modules in my rack
it is physically gorgeous, too. just a winner, period

I learnt in my education, noise are impulses, endless in amplitude and endless short in time over the whole freq spectrum. I believe all sounds come out of noise, you carve them out of noise. Your video goes the opposite way, you bring back a carved out sound back to its origin, to noise.
By the way, add some noise to an audio signal gives more grip for a filter or EQ.
I think it was in Kontakt, the clean pure Kontakt version 1 I think, years back, There you could use noise to trigger midi notes, this was very interesting on a drum kit bank, for example. Gauss sequencer... Thanks for your vids, inspiring as always.

Yeah, noise is an amazing building block. I think noise got a bad reputation as something unpleasing but it can be quite beautiful at times.

One of my favorite tricks is to use an envelope follower into a delay’s delay time cv input. It doesn’t work in every case with the source audio, but I’m definitely going to try mixing it with noise

Hey can I ask a follow up question? In that first example when you say you are mixing sto and mimeophon with morphagene to use the envelope follower are you just running one voice to the left channel and one to the right? Or is there other audio copy too? I really like the sound of this. Thanks!

    • @OmriCohen-Music
      @OmriCohen-Music  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I'm pretty sure I had a copy of both voices mixed with Quadratt, and then from there to Morphagene as a mono signal.

Nice! Great ideas as always. I've got a guitar patch on the go using Hora Millennial, sending it random quantised pitch CV, so you get kind of arpeggios over the guitar sound when you play. Haven't seen anyone else use it yet but it's a cool module. Need to get it finished, I have no idea how you produce videos every few days. I manage one a month if I'm lucky 🤣

Great video. To add to your list of coincidental Envelope Followers available in hardware. Surprisingly, Morphagene has an amazing Envelope follower. Of course there are cheaper, more purpose built ones like WMD time Warp or Mutable Instruments ears, but I swear, Morphagene is the best one I have found

    • @OmriCohen-Music

Having grown up in the age where our automobiles and most of our homes only had A.M. radios, the impinging of noise onto the audio signal was undesirable and a weakness of A.M. radio. Tune just slightly off center frequency and the noise interference that A.M receivers can not tune out, would follow the total volume "envelope", giving the audio a granular or "raspy" sound. Tune far enough off center, or even down one harmonic (a radio station broadcasting at 1600Khz under certain conditions could be heard faintly at 800Khz - referred to as an harmonic side band) and all you would hear is white noise being volume modulated by the total volume of the signal, exactly as heard at 1:20. Some of the sounds are interesting but I can't help but cringe a bit over the ones that remind me of these "dirty" radio signals.

I have to say, this module made really fall in love with noise and noisy textures... Maybe I should try and sample AM radio signals...
