I've been a fan of BAND-MAID from almost the start, before Kanami even played a PRS. The guitar is stunning, and hopefully this video sets a lot of people down the rabbit hole to discover how great they are!
Go check out her band, band-maid. A huge catalog and they are all serious, hard working musicians. The costumes throw people off but they are IMHO an amazing band .
The whole band is top tier. Genre-free, or rather than can and do play any genre, often in the same song. Check out at least 10 or 20 of their songs. She's the main composer and she's an even better writer than player IMO, and she's an absolutely phenomenal player!

"I had not heard of her band before." That seems to be a problem for the band: not may people have heard of them. That and the kawaii maid gimmick prevent Band-Maid from getting the worldwide acclaim they deserve. They play arenas in Japan, half-hour festival third-stage sets or tiny clubs in the US. Such a shame...Gacharic Spin* is another great Japanese band that gets only minimal attention outside of their home country. I suppose they consider themselves successful but they are, in this old fellow's opinion, among the greats of Rock Music deserving of a wider audience. *Guitarist Tomo-zo plays PRS as well.

@@TheRealJanKafka They are not that big in Japan either (which is a crime). Their concerts are usually 500 - 1500 capacity in Japan. Arena's are rare. I saw them in a tiny basement club in Akita last October, full capacity was 350.

My five favorite guitarists of all time, off the top of my head, are Tony Iommi, Frank Marino, Alex Lifeson, Steve Howe… and Kanami Tono. There’s some others I could swap in depending on my mood, but I wouldn’t take her out ever. She’s in great company on that list of famed guitarists, but they are also in great company being on the list with her!
Hopefully, PRS will clarify this statement to make it official, but from what I can gather from the PRS website, Kanami is the first female on the planet, and first foreign (non-US citizen) artist that American company ever honored with a signature guitar. If so, WTG Kanami! Two firsts !!!

I suppose they consider themselves successful but they are, in this old fellow's opinion, among the greats of Rock Music deserving of a wider audience.

@@TheRealJanKafka They are not that big in Japan either (which is a crime). Their concerts are usually 500 - 1500 capacity in Japan. Arena's are rare. I saw them in a tiny basement club in Akita last October, full capacity was 350.

My five favorite guitarists of all time, off the top of my head, are Tony Iommi, Frank Marino, Alex Lifeson, Steve Howe… and Kanami Tono. There’s some others I could swap in depending on my mood, but I wouldn’t take her out ever. She’s in great company on that list of famed guitarists, but they are also in great company being on the list with her!
One of the highlights of this year for me was discovering Band-Maid. Amazing musicians and Kanami is an incredible guitarist.

Hopefully, PRS will clarify this statement to make it official, but from what I can gather from the PRS website, Kanami is the first female on the planet, and first foreign (non-US citizen) artist that American company ever honored with a signature guitar. If so, WTG Kanami! Two firsts !!!
It seems Orianthi once had a signature PRS guitar.
@@t-shinji My understanding is that Orianthi has a Private Stock Orianthi Limited Edition, but not a signature guitar. Kanami also had her own private stock, which she mentioned during the video, prior to receiving a signature model.
Joan Jett has a signature model with Epiphone, and Lita Ford has a signature model with B.C. Rich
