In the opening line of this video, Alan Watts says, "You don't need to try to be God, you are." How would you explain this to someone who disagrees? Would you try to explain it?

We are not there is only one god
The person who doesn't know they are God are the types that externalize God. To see God as separate. This is fundamentally important, because the concept of God cannot allowed to become the whim of the human ego. These types see themselves as flawed, but are inspired to change and grow to try to be better. And they can be.
The person who does know they are God are the types that internalize God. This is fundamentally important, because the concept of God cannot allowed to become the threat of an old man on a chair -- the whim of human ego would like to be the old man on the chair. This type of person can be an incredible saint, or damned criminal! As a criminal, you decided that as God - your will shall be done. And so people deserve to pay sacrifices, and that is not 'theft' for you.
But as a saint, you decided something different. You decided that yes, you are God. But so is everyone else, even the criminal. You decided to see the grand Play as a play --- as a theater of the divine. And how can it NOT be so? God created the lion, and the gazelle. Why should God create the gazelle, to live in fear as prey to the lion? Why should this infinite benevolence create a condition of suffering? Well, its obvious: because God decided to experience that.
God decided to be the hunter, and the prey. It decided to create these dimorphic situations in order to experience itself.
You see? It's a matter of balance. I don't speak much on these matters, but I'm inclined in this case to answer because your question is very close to being a statement.
I can explain and still never convince 😂.. even myself. Stagnant, unprobed thinking loses purpose. But if I were to try and convince, I’d approach from an attempted sociological/historical/scientific view as that’s something me and the person-to-be-convinced most likely both have common ground in.
First some context: I think Watts means God obviously in the sense described below (“love is the energy of the universe..” i.e read some poetry by Rumi (also hey T&H when some Rumi?)) rather than the “paternal, authoritarian God on a marble throne”.
First how I would try: the idea of God is whatever we subjectively see fit to create. This is represented by the views of Gods all through human history. How environments shape societies and societies fashion God’s for themselves. This is an identifiable pattern. So in some sense, your belief in a God is your own explanation for yourself! How you are, what you are, etc… making sense of the world.
Second. We are physically extensions of the material of the universe. As everything else is. I am just a very small (or very massive) part of the universe, as every human is. As every star is. As every atom is. Just in a particular biological, chemical, atomic way.
Those are my main two reasons. But for me, the issue which arises with using “scientific” thinking to justify subjective feelings is exactly that. They are opposites and can’t mix. So where do I draw the hypocritical line between faith and science?
I've never, ever heard a speaker like Watts. The way he talks, the way he forms sentences, the way he describes things with comparisons to make us understand his thoughts, the way he instantly responds to questions with the most brilliant answers... No one I've ever heard have been as engaging to listen to as him.
This man was definitely a Gift to us.
I care NOT what anyone says, he has opened my eyes beyond belief and changed my life for the better and I truly have an understanding or AM understanding more and more each and every day. Again...he was such a Gift to us from the Universe

There's a great separation of man, now and then. What separates us from people like him is education. What we are taught in school isn't "education" we are taught to be workers NOT thinkers. Rockefellers made sure of that after their substantial donation in the education system. We hear people like Allan speak and we are shocked and hypnotized instantly because he makes so much sense, nothing like we have ever heard. Educated people like Allan are sent to our ears to lay eggs in our brain. Just because his words Suduce us doesn't mean we have to submit or give consent. Challenge everything!!
Remember always WE ARE NOT GODS, GOD CREATED US, GOD LOVES US, THE DEVIL WILL SUDUCE US THE WAY ALLANS WORDS DO, CHALLENGE IT. THE DEVIL COMES IN THIS FORM TO CONFUSE US, TO OPEN OUR MINDS PAST THE BIBLE AND BIGGER THAN THE BIBLE, THE HOLY BIBLE IS GODS WORD AND YES IT IS THAT SIMPLE. IVE FALLEN FOR THIS SAME TRAP SO MANY TIMES AND AS MUCH AS I WANT THIS STUFF TO BE TRUE OR THE EXISTENCE OF ALIENS, OTHER HUMAN FILLED PLANETS, HUMAN POWERS, AND SO ON... ITS ALL JUST A GAME TO DISTRACT US AWAY FROM THE SIMPLE TRUTH
JUST PRAY TO GOD AND START A RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM. He loves us no matter what. Don't ever change who u are as a person that God made u. We all sin because we are NOT Jesus God.
Now remember that the devil mixes truth with lie, you will hear many truths in his great lie. He will tell scientific truths that sound so real while lie to u about telling u that ur energy is God and make u believe the rest of his story because you heard some truth. Challenge all, even the bible

THANK YOU JESUS! Even though I’m still struggling to put groceries in the refrigerator. I STILL TRUST YOU LORD! Faith is trusting in God durning hard times. Faith is what is getting me through my hard situation. I’m still struggling to providing for my two autistic children since losing my job over declining the vaccine. I declined due to my pre existing health condition (Lupus) and Heart disease. I was denied my medical/religious exemption from Forsyth Hospital. My husband passed away three years ago, so I’m all alone. Both of my sons are non verbal so things are more hard on me. Every month I don’t know how we are going to make it through. Every month is a struggle, a battle to not end up on the streets. I’m so depressed and embarrassed by my situation. I’ve been put down and mocked over my circumstances. I’m so ashamed and overwhelmed. BUT because of my faith God shows up every month and provides. He has even sent strangers to help me, thank you Father. Even as I face homelessness with two young children seemingly every month!
I know that God will provide abundantly. Thank you Jesus. I BELIEVE!

As the Buddha said, "Life is impermanence, no situation lasts forever".
I've listened a lot to Alan especially in this setting of taking questions and not one time after a question has he paused to think of an answer, it seems to be answered sometimes before the questioner is finished asking which tells one this man is living life from the space of reality from which we all originate. We all know, but Alan knows he knows.
Watts was so wise and just incredible insightful. Being able to listen to his speeches and ponder is such a blessing
May all who hear and listen be forever changed.
Don't bother looking for the meaning of life because the meaning is life itself, enjoy it and don't feel guilty about it, if there's an afterlife then great, and if there isn't then all the worry about it is never going to put it there.

Sleeve dried a few tears. Never understood why I'm more susceptible to emotions in the early hours.
Probably because of our circadian rhythm. We are not supposed to be awake before the sun rises. Biologists have shown that shift workers who are awake during the night and sleep during the day are several times more likely to suffer from diabetes, heart disease and cancer. Try getting to sleep during the night and get up with the dawn and you will find that your emotions are more stable.
i think it has more to do with thousands of years of human evolution handed down to us, generation after generation. nighttime is our time for heightened fear and alertness, but also for wild dancing and liberation. daytime is our time for living, playing, learning, and growing. i love the duality of our one moon and sun - it’s like the duality of conscious and subconscious, fire and water, air and earth.

In fact, that's true for every sentence.
I listen to these videos over and over again, because it makes so much sense to me. Even more sense than what I do, see, hear, or think everyday. This seems more real than anything outside of me. It's sad most people don't see this and I feel like an outsider most of the time.
Try not to think of people as sad. If you know what’s real , put it to practice and just be. Awareness is the best word for me I helps to remember when the ego tries to distort the now

Those who heard Jesus speak, say "never have we heard a man speak this way". I believe Alan has knowledge and understanding to the point that many feel the same way about him. An individual who thinks beyond the masses. Not as a contemporary man. But of someone who possesses clearness on thinking, knowledge and vision.
I am glad we are finally being prepared for a better way of life and being.
However I think we where ready in the 60'.
If I new this when I was 9 I wouldn't have been so scared when my dreams started.

I've been all kinds of counselors all my life and they all end up walking away or telling me that I don't need to be there. They say that I create my own reality even though I live in this one. I'm the happiest crazy person they ever met. They wanted to live in my reality too I even had some of the counselors come in see all the things that I did. They were completely shocked.

Funny when I was a child I used to think 🤔... When you die you go back to the silence before birth. Now I'm older and fight w myself and others about where we think we all go
I've never met anyone else who remembers the silent void before birth until now. It's weird to imagine life, and imagine before life. My mind shows me all it can perceive and that is darkness in it's purest form kind of like dark matter forming into anti matter at the very bottom of a never ending black hole with minimal density and zero direction. There's neither sound nor touch, taste, or any other senses to be discovered. Zero consciousness/existence/being
I feel like that is inaccurate though because just because we weren't conscious aware before creation doesn't mean we were dark matter in a void. That's just the way our mind perceives what "before creation" was like. Parts of what made us were things that have names or don't depending on if they have been discovered, named, disected, defined, recorded, explained yet or not. I believe we are part discovered (sperm, eggs) and mostly undiscovered pieces scattered throughout the universe and only when the right chemicals, lighting, temperature, and energy mix pieces of what become us create. Instead of the darkness of void, I now see dust, sunlight, dandelions and tall grass and I hear nature mixing with the warmth as it's carried out through each blade of grass all at once through a slight breeze. I see all of this without me existing but eventually I will be aware of this scene I just seen as a description of me before me.
As amazing and magical this all seems, God is greater than the creation of the unborn magician who became discovered, named, disected, recorded, defined, and taught. God is greater than everything and everyone at their best from what we perceive to be their best in this world. God is everything unperceived because we can't imagine God unless God himself reveals Godly things for our mind to open up to. Here in this world we discover things we find because we can see them. God isn't of this world, his language isn't born from confusion and clutter. His language isn't spoken with a subductive tongue
Gods language is 1 but heard by all, It's spoken with the weight of the world in a weightless vast in a subtle tone and never repeated but always heard. Cross chatter from the deceptive one of 10,000 tongues recreate his sound with words mix with lie and confusion, question, anger, hate, pain, fire 🔥 and hell is burning while your ears have a choice to hear many men or the creator of all man. Only a fool who once heard God would doubt the sound of God when he speaks to him once again. A fool always chooses another MANS answers instead of searching undiscovered truths or simple truth. A wise man always keeps his mouth shut while a fool screams false beliefs and noise cross chatterings

Such great videos on thsi channel--but like all humans Alan Wats did not know all. You do not just repeat life here, when you get out of your body life you reemerge into what some call heaven and your consciousness (gods too) may return to some other body experience

I have one question that scares me and that's "what if we ARE alive and know it now because to not be alive is to be dead so what if we were dead before we were alive and this is the life and when I'm dead again will I not still live on or again since I've already experienced death twice?" I'm scared that when I leave my family to death that I will never be able to experience that same comfort with the same people again? Ig that is my biggest fear.

I know that energy cannot be destroyed and that which holds all atoms together is a mystery glue if u will that makes up most of the area OF an atom and cannot observe it without it turning to a solid thus making it impossible to see with the naked eye, and that mystery glue is 99% of what we exist in. I would encourage anyone seek philosophy to listen to Alan Watts and ignore Jordan Peterson completely.
I enjoy both for different reasons but I don’t see a lot of contradiction. Watts is much more abstract. He is profound. Peterson more practical
