Just got my egg a week ago the Egg definitely has a learning curve compared to other grills. These videos are incredibly helpful, informative & straight forward. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the info, we’ve had our large BGE for roughly 15 years! Still working great 👍. I do a thorough cleaning a couple times per year, and maintenance cleaning in between. The only thing I’ve ever had to do was change the gasket, otherwise flawless!
Great video. Just finished my first Egg cook and was wondering how much cleaning I needed to do. This answered all my questions. My biggest problem was the grate, but now that I know the best tools to use my next cleaning will be much smoother. Thank you.
Thanks, that was great!! I really enjoy your videos. I am in Australia and only recently got my first Big Green Egg after having Webers. I love the Big Green Egg and your videos are really helpful.
Love your videos. They have helped me a make better food on my large BGE. Could you do a video on desserts on the BGE? I have tried grilled pineapple and a apple crisp in a dutch oven on mine. What have you tried??
First, thank you, you just made my day. Second, I love that idea. With the help of @annfernandez I have made cookies , cheesecakes and even a pistachio pudding cake that's green on the inside. I am definitely adding a desserts on the Egg to the list. Here's a link to the cake that is on BGE's website that we did. biggreenegg.com/recipes/pistachio-pudding-cake/
I Love these videos! I just re stained my BGE xl table and now gonna do a clean burn then clean the egg itself. Very Helpful. Oh and a new gasket hahah
I came here for advice on washing the exterior of the BGE and I appreciate your tips! Question: how does one brag about how amazing KickAsh Basket Gloves are…. But not actually be using the amazing KickAsh basket or KickAsh Can… these 2 products are essential to my system. Can’t live without.
Good video. I highly recommend putting foil over the plate setter (ConvEggtor) to make for easy cleanup. Just replace the foil. I also use drip pans to keep the drippings from burning on the plate setter and adding an acrid taste to the cook. The plate setter gets HOT. I space my drip pans off the plate setter with little rolls of aluminum foil so they're not in direct contact of the plate setter.
@@FOGOcharcoal You're doing a great service here to potential and current BGE owners. You can be forgiven for not posting it on this video. Keep posting! It's great info that BGE owners need to know.
Hey buddy hello from Australia. I don’t have a BGE but have a KJ classic. Love your videos as they are very informative and entertaining as they apply to both grills. Just wish we could get fogo charcoal in Australia. Keep up the great work
I recently bought a used BGE off of Craigslist to see if I like it and go from there. The seller said … and I can see it … that a new gasket had recently been installed. I would like to do a clean burn to clean the inside. If I put aluminum foil on both edges of the lids, do you think the gasket would survive or disintegrate? Also, if I do NOT do a clean burn, how would I clean all of the interior stuff, conveggtor, the lid and base?
If you have a new gasket, I would skip the clean burn. The inside is supposed to turn black and get some buildup. You could scrape it with an aluminum foil ball and that'll work pretty well.
Ron, keep up the great work. Just got my first BGE - a used large egg with the 49" metal rolling cart shown on BGE website. The egg is in great shape but the finish on the cart top is cracked and flaking. Maybe from hot pans. Do you have any suggestions to restore the cart top? Thanks for your excellent channel and thoughtful content.
Hey Peter, congrats and welcome to the addiction! I do not have any suggestions for that other than contacting BGE customer service and seeing if there is anything that they can do.
the green egg grill brush you used is exactly the one I am looking for but can not find it. Any suggestions? I tried the BGE website but that is a challenge all in itself. keep up the great videos
This needs to happen here!! Hopefully the 3 inches of snow we’re getting tomorrow will be the last we get this year. Then I’ll be a grill cleaning maniac!!😂😂
Hello from Austria - thanks for your great Videos! The are really helpful for me as a BGE newbie ✌️! Too bad that the Fogo charcoal is not available in Austria.
Hi Ron, thanks a lot as usual, great video.. quick question, my regulator is getting stock, do you have a recommendation of how to clean it to avoid this? Thanks again
Hey Gaston, i haven't encountered it much with my REGGulator cap but I used to simply throw my Daisy Wheel on the grates after a cook and let it heat up really well or throw it right into the hot coals while the egg shuts down. You will have to reseason it afterwards just like any cast iron. I'd try scraping as much as you can with a razor blade first though.
I do what you did pretty much. I remove ash after every cook with the ash tool and I remove everything from the egg every bag of charcoal. You didn't say anything about the lid. I have a lot of black stuff building up on my egg's lid. Once a year I take a electric wire brush to the black stuff on the lid and the inside of the egg. I only brush only till when the black stuff starts turn dark brown so I don't wear down the ceramics. Is cleaning this black stuff off the lid necessary? I do it so it doesn't add flavor to my cooks. I looked into a lot of professional places and they don't clean the burnt grease out of their grills.
It is really a matter of personal preference. Depending on who you ask, you'll get different answers. I rub mine with balled up aluminum foil when I see it starting to flake off. I don't want that getting in my food.
One thing I do if the grill grate is building up residue is to loosely place aluminum foil on top of the grate once the cook is finished. Open up the vents and let it get to 550/600* for 5 or 10 minutes, then shut the vents. The grate should be clean enough for the next day.
Thanks Michael, I appreciate that. I'm glad that you found one that works better for you. We just love that people are out and enjoying grilling, whatever grill you're cooking on!
Hi Ron, thanks for another informative video as only you can present! 🙂 I would like to make one comment. I really dislike the off-axis shot of you talking to another camera. So, you're talking to cam 1. Cam 2 is shooting you talking to cam1. I just find that very distracting and off-putting. Other than that, the presentations are great. Keep up the great work.
Hey Mark, thanks for the comment. We did a video about clean burns already. I suppose I could have hit on that without doing a clean burn as not everyone agrees with the high heat cleaning. A balled up piece of aluminum foil works pretty well for cleaning the inside of the dome. Thank you for the reminder, I'll put it on the list of topics to cover.
For the inner rings, should we use the wire brush like you did on the plate setter? I have some build up on them from some drippings and haven’t cleaned them yet.
Thanks for tuning in, we hope that you enjoy it. Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE and turn on notifications!

I have a few chips in the paint. Do they have touch up paint for the dome?
If you contact BGE, I do believe that they sell a touch up paint.
Thank you for the tips
You are very welcome!
I always thought i was a bit weird because I clean my egg after every cook. But i reckon it helps.
The way I figure it, it just can't hurt to have it clean all of the time.

Hey Ron, any tips on how to clean the acacia wood egg mates?
Oh boy, that's a tough one. I don't have those but I know some have had to sand and restain them with waterproof stain, ie. Thompsons.

The entire reason I clicked on this video was to figure out how to clean the top vent. He didn’t even bother to explain that.
Sorry Joe, what part of the top vent are you speaking about?
For the inner rings, should we use the wire brush like you did on the plate setter? I have some build up on them from some drippings and haven’t cleaned them yet.
Sure, you can do that or use a paint scraper. Making pizza or a hot burn will work well too.
