The biggest surprise for me was hearing Rauno had only been to WSM once. Feel like I've been watching him compete for years and he's definitely one of the "big names" to me.
I wasn't surprised that Rauno won- Jerry pritchett sort of has a slower pull, so he'd struggle with the pacing and time concerns? To get 7reps I think you'd have to be able to deadlift 500kg or more. Looking forward to seeing Jf Caron vs Bishop.
According to a calculator, if you could do 500kg you could pull 8 reps on 400kg. Ofc the accuracy isn't perfect, but it shows the level of the 500kg realm.
As a 5-6 170 lb 60 yr old guy I love the competitive drama of these huge unimaginably strong men moving impossible weight. It's really great to watch. Keep striving men, your great effort is amazing to watch
Hey Loz, well summarised as per usual . An extra rep with that weight is insanely difficult. I think that is about as good as Heinla can do its still very impressive. Jerry is passed his best now but no shame in 4 reps. I think bishop for 6 and caron for 4. I think Thor would have pulled 400kg for 7 or 8 reps on 501kg day what about you? RESPECT as always
Honestly I'm looking forward to seeing JF and Bishop try to break this record more. I think they might have a better chance. Also it would be great to see Janashia try, he's co-holding the record with Rauno and JF now isn't he?
Big Loz. What's your reaction to the Julius Maddox 800lb bench attempt and the shambles that ensued? How hard is it to come back from a colossal mistake like that
I was watching some of Jerry's training and it looked to be that even 2 reps at 400 would be a struggle for him, based on what I saw. So for my expectations he did well. And I did expected that rauno would win by a reasonable amount, and yes, probably thinking 6 for him.
@Hidde de Roos the footage I saw was older than that, so maybe he should/could have been more capable then he was. Maybe that was too much to recover from in 2 weeks for him. He is a bit older and has had a number of injuries. Like I said, still a good showing though.
@@BigLozOfficial maybe a champions league home edition could be a thing going forward, even when the comps start up again, one or two disciplines every quarter posted online with a pot? (if WUS were willing, viewer subscription to cover costs maybe) give the athletes a wee sweetner outwith competitions.
They really should be using the same plates because Heinla's plates take much more length on the bar that creates a greater torque force and therefore more whip. You can argue that its a slight difference but at these weights, the little things matter a lot.
@@quelandil5738 With bumper plates there is more weight distributed towards the ends of the bar. This makes the bar bend more which means that the outermost plates have to travel a shorter distance than the innermost plates. Turns it into a partial rep.
i could imaging that rogue couldnt send him the weights for some reason (probably covid-19), but they did for other athletes. I'm pretty sure Thor and Pritchett got new plates from Rogue.
Had my dead lift day today. The summer heat sweaty hands killed it for me,my gym do not allow chalk or anything like that, so yeah will be looking for something that i can use in the hot sweaty summer days.
It went how I thought it would, as I said in the comments on the preview, Rauno is a monster but would he have that explosive strength after 4 or 5 reps. It appears not.
That was so interesting when you said about first four and then a fifth just shuts you down off form yes.. I think because of JF capabilities he has it still has the advantage and Adam this will show just how good they both are as they want it and Possibly will see 7. I am so Glad that the Big Z is the referee again because of consistency. But what it does do is show just how good Rob was with the Log to manage it and show there is far more to come from the small lightest strong man.
This is very true and something I think all of us are forgetting right now. We’re almost disappointed when we don’t see a record but 5 reps with 400 is incredible
It's almost like you have a massive advantage when you do the attempt at your own pace and at the peak. And then Hafthor fanboys say his lift was fair, what a joke.
Theoretically, thor and eddie in his prime could do 7-8 reps, given that 400kg would be 80% of 1rm, and each reps "costs" aprox. 3% Think about this for a sec. 80% is often regarded as work set load, which is insane when 1rm is 500kg
Still good to see, I much orefer this than the hype over the 'boxing' match. Still can't get my head around Thor losing all that weight and sacrificing his sport, where he is one of the best in the world to do something that most likely be far far less than an average professionalcbixing match. I know money talks, but so does integrity surely.
Just a personal subjective opinion > I enjoy watching these strong men compete for multiple reps at a very heavy weight more than 1 rep max. Strategy, pace and mindset probably play a greater factor in reps competition vs 1 rep max
Nobody wins when the record is missed my friend. Question - would you wait to peak in the world record attempt or have achieved it prior to the attempt?
I’ve just found this out myself: just shows what a mess up it was today. We were the commentators and getting nothing information wise. I didn’t even have a view of the lights. Very disappointed for the athletes and the guys at WUS as they are trying so hard to improve things for athletes and fans
@@BigLozOfficial if it can console Julius even with the disk error, what organization as you say I do not think he had the 800lbs today, for some time he has been stuck around the 770/350 kg level, moreover he had made a gym 790 lbs attempt and failed. I think he should have tried 780 at second attempt or even third attempt.
Another point why Jerry and Heinla didn t have same plates...bumper are easier i know, very weak organisation, i know that WUS is a young federation and want to do well but imagine if they had done same thing with Thor 501...

Why is Rauno allowed to use bumper plates wtf? It's so much easier.
yeah i noticed that too, bullshit they didnt force him to use calibrated plates as the extra whip was visible
Could you explain why? Can't be the bounce since he resets inbetween reps. Do you mean the weight leaving the floor later due to barbend?
@@quelandil5738 The weights leave the floor later so you start the pull a bit higher, and it also whips more, which can be taken advantage of.
