It's so sad that already the blind people are facing so many challenges in their life and they have to spend thousands of dollars to learn a eco locating courses!! What a crazy selfish world are we living!!

    • @JoshTseng

Well fortunately echolocation is not exactly essential, otherwise we'd all be in a lot of trouble. But yes it's quite unfortunate that learning skills like this is not only so difficult, but also so expensive. In some countries, the support for people with disabilities is better than others. I'd say where I live in Singapore, we're pretty middle of the road: our country doesn't particularly provide much in the way of financial support, but there's a lot of resources to get started (though it really takes a lot of effort and willpower to make things work). Fortunately for people like me, there's a lot more attention brought onto the topic and things are slowly getting better.
Sadly, not everyone in other parts of the world can be so lucky, and it's truly something that's difficult to think about sometimes.

Even as a sighted person, this would be amazing to learn. Of course I wouldn't need it during daytime but I would find it amazing to be able to navigate in pitch darkness without using lights. This can be especially useful for nighttime urban exploring or night walks in the woods, where you don't necessarily want to draw too much attention with a flashlight acting like a beacon.
Furthermore, it could also give sighted people a better understanding on how blind people are able to perceive their surroundings (given that they have learned the technique).

Do you ever imagine yourself as daredevil?
Also, how do you imagine seeing things? Is it like the red outlines like in the comics, or maybe like the blueish foggy look in the daredevil movie or the world on fire in the show? Or maybe some other way?

    • @JoshTseng
      @JoshTseng  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

No not Daredevil. 😂 I only heard about Daredevil years after I lost my eyesight.
I've made a video about how I see through my eyes but to summarise: it's very blurry and narrow. The way it's portrayed for Daredevil in the comics I think is actually how he perceives the world in his brain, after processing everything using his hearing.
If you'd like to check out the video on what I can see, it's here:

      @@JoshTseng ah I see.
And you're kinda right with daredevils radar sense.
      However, heres the thing.
Ever since Matt Murdock was blinded by chemicals as a kid, his other senses basically became as strong as Dwayne Johnson when he used steroids. His other senses became more sensitive than a lovesick high school girl that got rejected by her crush before prom, and usually the way he sees things tends to vary depending on the version, but the design is consistent with his senses.
For instance; in the comics, I'll use the lines that are shown, when he uses his hearing, he can see outlines but he can't see color or details. Only 3d images. His sense of touch allows him to make out small details such as ink indentation on paper.
His sense of smell can allow him to smell someone via sweat, perfume, cologne, deodorant, etc. His sense of taste can allow him to taste copper in the air from when someone has an open wound. However it will usually look like the lines if we're referring to the comics. For the show, it depicted the world on fire, so it'd appear like it's getting illuminated by fire regardless of the sense he's engaging.

Why don't you learn the skill? I don't see how someone could be blind and never bother learning probably the most life changing skill one in that circumstance could possibly learn. Fun fact, no one actually taught Daniel that skill, no one even told him the skill existed. he was raised in an enviorment where he was essentially left to his own devices to navigate life, no school for the blind, no hand holding, no help, no restrictions from activities, no one ever told him "dont do that you'll get hurt" he was allowed to get hurt. etc. He has a quote "running into a pole is a pain, not being allowed to run into a pole is a disaster"
Relying on sound only to get an idea of where he was, he eventually naturally started clicking. He went to a normal school that had another blind kid there, the other blind kid was put through blind school associations, and was taught to be helpless essentially. People would bring him his books, lead him around, restrict him from danger, etc. This greatly disturbed daniel, that another blind person could he so helpless. So he would bully the helpless blind kid it's pretty sad really.
