  • in this video i wanted to show how you can pace the distance covered when hiking in bad weather, and also how to work out the timing before you start to travel.

That was brilliant Andy, I’d never thought about the pacing, yet it’s so obvious really isn’t it ? 😊

Yes, and it's nothing new. I've known it for years. I checked my pace once on the motorways hard shoulder at 2am when there was nobody about. I was coming home from work. I don't recommend doing this. It's probably illegal 😂

    Hi Andy.
It’s good to breathe properly. ‘Cadence is key’.
I try to pace myself at four to one.
By that, I mean ‘four steps to one breath’. So four steps forwards while breathing in, then four steps forward while breathing out. You can get quite a speed, and cover a good distance, with a bit of practice. Just breathe in and out, deeply.
    And good lungs.
    All the best.👍🏾😉

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. Though, sometimes in them hills, I'm doing 4 breaths to one step 😉 got to learn to slow down 👍

@@Andy-walkaboutnutty It’s just control, my friend. I learned a lot about breathing techniques, through cycling.

@@Soggz7785 I think it might have something to do with me talking and not thinking.

Pace is the thing most people do wrong at the start of a walk .
I reckon they should rename it patience . So often i have to slow people down .
Ive figured out that by lagging far behind them at the right pace eventually they chill out , calm dowm and enjoy their walk

You've got to keep a clarity of mind, especially when you're tired. Don't want to get things wrong.

Also depends on the individuals fitness, pace and gate.
People need to learn to YOMP, as they say in the military. ‘You’re Own Marching Pace’.
      All the best.👍🏾🇬🇧

At high altitude a 175 is the same effort as a 65

I didn't know that. it sounds steep and would take twice as long, at least.
