    What on Earth did three people see to give this video a thumbs down? This is a craftsman working at a level that’s very sadly fading away. All done by hand with power tools being used twice but not with automation. You also showed how a true master uses his eye. I wish my father and his father were alive to see you work. Thank you very much for making this video.

    Really enjoyable and interesting to see the process and how you work. I own 8 of your planes and always marvel at their design and use, and wonder how they came to be. We're lucky to have you and producing such amazing tools and keeping the tradition alive. Much of my inspiration and passion for woodworking is drawn from your hand planes.

      Hi Terry,
      We did make it ourselves for plane making about 6 years ago and have been testing its reliability etc. We have made 4 more prototypes with improvements from the first one and we have been testing them for about 6 months now and it is all good. We are just starting our first production run which will be released in mid Oct.
      If you are interested let us know and we can put you on a list to be contacted once they are made, but with no commitment to buy.. Our email is planemaker@hntgordon.com.au. We estimate they will be about AU$1500, but will confirm the actual price once we have made the first batch.
      Regards Terry

    9:04 - I call it 'the craftsman's squint' -- that expression people get when checking if something is 'just so'.
    Found in workshops all over the world, apparently :-)
    I'm saving up to buy one of HNT Gordon's smoothers - for those properly ornery woods.
    Best regards from a Norwegian woodworker.

    This was an absolute joy to watch. Wonderful workmanship, and beautiful tools. What do you use for the inlay of the lettering? Is that brass powder with epoxy or something? Thanks! Harrie

    • @hntgordonco.2514
      @hntgordonco.2514 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Harrie
      The HNT Gordon that is stamped in the end grain is filled with the standard Linseed oil putty that they use when fitting glass to wooden framed windows. Its easy to apply and lasts for ever. Thanks for the compliment on the video. happy wood working. Regards Terry

    • @HendrikusDeVaan
      @HendrikusDeVaan 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've never heard of that putty before, will look into it, thanks! Are you mixing the putty with brass powder or some other sort of pigment to get that cool gold color? I was thinking of applying this technique for signing my furniture. At the moment I'm using a burn stamp, which is fine, but the gold inlay is a whole other level of cool.

    • @hntgordonco.2514
      @hntgordonco.2514 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Harrie
      The gold colour can vary with the wood used in the body. Gidgee does have a yellowish colour when it bleeds a little. That is probably where the goldish colour is coming from when the putty mixes with the tanins from the wood. When we use ebony the putty turns a greyish colour due to the ebony. I think you can buy coloured putty which may be helpfull to you, but I'm not sure where you can get it from. Regards Terry

    • @hntgordonco.2514
      @hntgordonco.2514 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is just the old lindseed oil putty that you would use when glassing a window. Stays there forever.

    Great job.
    What is the tool you using at 16:28? Look like big metal scraper, just hollow ground on the front face.
    If I'm not wrong, you use a similar one just smaller, on 8:52

    • @hntgordonco.2514
      @hntgordonco.2514 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hi, both of those tools are High Speed Steel (HSS) scrapers, just different widths to suit certain tasks. They are basically sharpened with a 90 -100 degree edge on worn out sand paper on a disc sander. Easy to sharpen but it only stays sharp for a short period, very efective for scraping beds and the outside of the body to a perfect finish. Hope that helps.
      Regards Terry
