    I personally think that fusion will replace all of these due to the fact that only a few reactors could provide more than enough power for the entire planet. It’s also a good idea for long term space travel because it can run on hydrogen the most common element in the universe. Then again it may never happen since it’s so efficient that electricity prices would drop drastically the only real reason to pay an electrical bill after this is to justify the cost of building

      I know I'm late, but in reality the problem is perspective. We have the most advanced piece of technology imaginable sitting in our sky, it's literally a prerequisite for all of these technologies, but instead of trying to learn more about it we waste our energy building bombs and starting super projects that dont finish. The US spent billions on unfinished nuclear reactors, and the ones in operation still arent being updated despite old technology being the only reason Fukishima was possible. If it werent for people protesting the plants in Japan, Fukishima wouldve been upgraded with a gravity well to prevent meltdowns without requiring a power source. American nuclear infrastructure is deteriorating too, nothing is new and scientists are scarce.

    The solar power plant in California that is mentioned at about the 7:26 mark is one of the most expensive energy power plants, that if it was not prompted up by the government, would have been shut down by now or never would have been built. It is the perfect example of how we can build something as a proof of concept, and then we should learn that it was a bad idea and never do it again. It cost about 10,000 times more to buy electricity from that power plant than it does from more traditional solar power plants. It is also important to state that solar is still the most expensive way to generate electricity. Also, growing by 500% or f times is saying that solar went from .26% of the U.S. energy production to 1.3% of the U.S. energy production, which is not a bad thing, I just think that we should be honest with the solar growth. I cold discuss many other points in this video, however, it is best to say that there are many cool ideas out there, however, the technologies are not ready for massive implementation.

    I hope this will be viewed as constructive criticism, as on the whole, I quite enjoyed the video:
    a) the item marked "8. Tidal power" does not discuss tidal power, but rather focuses on wave power. These are two very different energy sources, with two very different futures.
    b) "7. Hydrogen" is not an energy source, but rather a means of transporting energy. Hydrogen still needs to be manufacutred somewhere, either by use of extreme heat, or by consumption of electricity. Perhaps this item could be replaced by one on Thorium reactors.

      Algae may sound good in theory, but the efficiency of algae collecting sunlight and converting into fuel is only a fractional percentage. This means that the cost of getting a biofuel from algae is about $85 per gallon according to recent estimates. This means it is not practical in the long run.

    Well, on nuclear evergy, you didn't mention Thorium Liquid Salt reactors which can put out ~95% evergy as direct electricity, also use up nuclear waste (though not as efficiently as as what you already covered) as the reaction process recycles the uranium/plutonium used to start the reaction, and if it gets out of hand there's an emergency draining system that moves the liquid to a cooling chamber solidifying the solution effectively ending the reaction automatically. Then to get it going again you reheat the solution and pump it back into the reactor and you're golden.
    Not to mention the "waste" can be used for a very wide variety of medical and industrial applications.
    Oh and the amount of Thorium used is miniscule yet generates enormous output. AND Thorium is a waste product of mining (especially in the US) so from decades of this we have a giant resource pool to pull from.

    • @uxsvent1
      @uxsvent1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Gavin Alward cant they use the "waste" for medical cancer treatments and 238 is needed very badly by nasa for there space batteries right. meaning if its in space in a sat its not on earth.

    • @PvtScottish
      @PvtScottish 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      John Garvey Yes! In fact I just saw a commercial today for "proton therapy", I think it's what they called it. I can't think of the specific isotope used for the type of treatment right now though. It'd be interesting to find out what they're using and where they get it.
      I don't know much about NASA's "space batteries" but I can imagine it'd be useful somewhere.
      Also, as far as space goes, if a small scale LFTR was developed it would be near perfect for space travel and powering tech off world; say, a moon base.
      And although solar is getting more and more efficient all the time, for any deep space travel you'll need something a bit more sustainable using very limited resources.

    • @jakep.eng.972
      @jakep.eng.972 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Gavin Alward This technology will have to be produced privately because of the vested interests of big business and lobby groups behind our political "leaders ". China has purchased the GE technology from Oak Ridges and is pushing ahead to secure the IP's {international patents}. We may have to produce thorium reactors for a needy country to help wake up the West. At least thorium is plentiful (cheap), and the reactors can be located anywhere , not needing cooling water. Perhaps small encapsulated reactors could be used for transportation .

    Using pressure to make electricity is called Piezoelectricity and it'd been used for a LONG time. Piezoelectric Plates are cheap , and used in pressure sensor ... It's crystal power !
    "Piezoelectricity is the electric charge that accumulates in certain solid materials (such as crystals, certain ceramics, and biological matter such as bone, DNA and various proteins) in response to applied mechanical stress. The word piezoelectricity means electricity resulting from pressure and latent heat."

      Notice how he never mentioned LFTR, and only mentions junk monkey science. He came kind of close with the fast breeder which are still solid fuel, and have a terrible meltdown track record. I believe every fast breeder that has been tried has either melted down, or was shut down before it did. It just proves humanity is still very much a master slave civilization. Until that is broken, humanity stands no chance at real progress. Energy advances are the biggest threat to the BEAST, 'if you will'. A liquid 'metallic salt' fuel type nuclear reactor is the only correct next move for humanities energy needs!!!!!! For earth that technology has already been discovered but rejected in 1973 due to its disruptive nature to the status quo. Its called LFTR. "It is your only hope" as Princess Leia would say. Sadly, I don't hold out too much hope that humanity will come to this conclusion in time! The biggest problem humanity faces is it's fear to obtain freedom at whatever cost necessary. Just look how fast Islam is spreading. By the way Islam means submit. Terror steals freedom. But freedom destroys terror of any kind. "Freedom is like the Lion. Let it loose. It will defend itself." LFTR will pull you monkeys away from fossil fuel. Helium 3 fusion will pull you away from LFTR. Anti Matter will come after that? You will not be able to skip LFTR. LFTR will bring you the carbon age, Graphene, and many other fantastic technologies to the mainstream. Like the 'space elevator' for example. You will not be able to mine the moon for Helium 3 without being a LFTR civilization. With LFTR all your transportation will run on cheap to make Hydrogen. LFTR will desalinate ocean water very cheap, then Graphene will come on line for dirt cheap desalination filtration. So on, and so forth. Many many other fantastic life changing technologies will be born out of a LFTR civilization. LFTR is a major threat to the masters over humanity. The BEAST is the only thing between LFTR and you!!!!!!! KILL THE BEAST!!! Just like darkness is destroyed by light. The BEAST is destroyed by the TRUTH!!! plus.google.com/115372275668075364660/posts Perhaps BEAST should be plural. I don't believe there's just one.

Extraction of many of the elements that go into producing things is one aspect that is usually not considered when coming up with a cost per k/m or other criterion. The environmental impact and health and welfare of workers is almost never considered

      @@4notron 'I believe every fast breeder that has been tried has either melted down, or was shut down before it did.' I don't think a fast breeder has ever 'melted down'. One near Detroit did partially melt a couple of fuel rods, but was repaired and put back into service. No radiation was released, and nobody was harmed. Russia has two large fast reactors providing power, and last month signed a contract to build some in China. India has a small demonstration one, and has a large power reactor almost ready for service. There are currently no reactors running on thorium, though a few did so in the sixties and seventies, and there has never been a power producing molten salt reactor.

    I have an idea for a lifting force machine.
    Step 1: Get hollowed out cube.
    Step 2: Securely attach magnet to inner bottom of hollowed out cube.
    Step 3: Place a lever on inside bottom of cube behind the magnet thats securely attached to inside bottom of cube so that one side of the lever is pointing towards you and hanging over the magnet.
    Step 4: Attach a vertical bar to the top side of the part of the lever that is not hanging over magnet witch is securely attached to inner bottom of cube. Make sure the bar goes all the way up to the inner top of the cube barley touching it.
    Step 5: Securely attach a magnet to the side of the lever that is hanging over the magnet that is attached to the inner botttom of cube.
    Note: Magnets need to be facing each other with attracting poles N,S or S,N
    Note: The lever is going to have to be realy close to the magnet on inner bottom of cube because of how close those magnetic fields need to be to interact. But not so close that magnets can touch.
    The magnet on top connected to lever is pulling the magnet on inner bottom of cube towards it and since the magnet on inner bottom of cube is connected to cube, this pulling force acts as a lifting force. Now at the same time the magnet on inner bottom of cube is pulling the magnet on top downwards BUT the magnet on top is connected to the lever so any downwards pulling force is being converted mechanicaly by the lever into upwards lifting force. Now if you know anything about magnets you now that there are magnets powerfull enough to lift far more weight then just there own. So essentialy this divice is exploiting the powerfull pulling force of magnets by mechanicaly transforming its magnetic pulling force into mechanical lifting force through the clever utilization of a lever, and walla stuff can be made to fly. Imagine if the magnets in this experiment where electro magnets so the ammount of electrical current going into them determined the ammount of lifting force that it would have. Now imagine this system being used as an attachment that could be placed under or ontop of vehicles to counter the weight of the vehicle and any cargo its carying. Now imagine if this was done with powerfull permanent magnets and turned sideways and placed in an electric generator and had enough strength to pass through the magnetic fields as it propelled itself forwards with its own magnetic pulling force. -Signed AMA-

They tell their workers that the global warming is a hoax and that their workers will be unemployed very soon if because of introduction of these alternative sources of energy. These workers who are largely losing their jobs should be hired and trained to build rechargeable batteries and PV cells so they can be assured that their livelihood is respected by the new industry. Stop preaching logics to these workers. They feel worthless if they are not working and who could reassure them practically? The new barons of the alternative sources of energy! Your audience should not be Me! It should be those whose jobs are being on the verge of being wiped out! Retraining of the Coal and Oil miners is money well spent on the road to a new and viable alternative to energy. Go for it!

And anti-matter energy won't be available in our lifetime, we don't even know how to get large amounts of anti-matter that we could use. I feel a little bit sad because of this because as soon as we are able to use anti-matter as an energy source, we should be able to make interstellar travel possible.

    No 7 Hydrogen - you got some of it wrong.
    1. It produces literally 0 pollution, not almost. (unless you count water as pollution)
    2. It is not the reason why nasa is using it. They use it because it is the most efficient fuel to power the rocket, not because it is cleanest. It is lightweight which means the rocket weighs less which means it can go further.
    3. Hydrogen existing in combination with other elements is only one of the reasons its not used. More importantly the rest of the world don't use it because it is extremely combustible and dangerous, also because it is very difficult to store. Hydrogen is the smallest atom and H2 is the smallest molecule and it will therefore slowly "leak" through the walls of any container. Much like helium filled balloon will deflate in a few days.

    • @Infernot1
      @Infernot1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      +Dana Pearson solar is so inefficient. First of all, you need a huge amount of solar panels to produce a significant amount of energy. Meaning tens of square miles, even hundreds. Not only this, but if the sun isn't shining, whether it's cloudy, wintry, foggy, or nighttime, solar will get even more diluted, to the point that something else needs to fill its place. Solar is good on, say, a family scale. To power the world? No chance. A standard 1,000 megawatt nuclear power plant that takes up 1 square mile produces more power than 30 square miles of solar panels. And a thorium plant can be scaled up or down, to the tiny ten megawatt range, to the thousands of megawatts. It is not cheap, granted, but because it burns about 98% of the thorium into energy, it is ultra-efficient. On the other hand, solar, and only the really expensive panels, can harvest maybe 20% of incoming solar energy if you're lucky. Thorium is not toxic; its radiation is not high enough to be at all dangerous. It is not weaponizable - it does not have a critical mass as uranium does - and because thorium is often already liquidized, at least in the molten salt and thorium reactors, it cannot have a meltdown. Also, the only emission is water. And last I check, water is pretty non-toxic.

    Two observations:
    1. I don't see why we would need the large space solar panels. The earth surface area of solar panels required to power the whole planet is only 158 miles by 158 miles. That is around 1/4 of the state of Montana.
    2. Additionally, they now have wind turbines that don't spin. Its just a large pole in the ground that is shaped specifically to create a vortex of air around it that powers the turbine. This would reduce cost and efficiency, so we can forget about those giant balloons. I am pretty sure this invention is incredibly recent, after this video was published.

      1 how would we harness Hawking radiation without any device that we used to harness it get sucked in 2 the amount of money it would take to get all of the parts up there one and get them to you a black hole it's very time-consuming in money straining or at least as of right now 2019.

      dragoola69x this plan isnt exactly a power source for our type less than one civilization, its more so a hypothetically way to power planets in the far future. They use the spinning of blackholes and light rays to do “super-radiant scattering” theres an “in a nutshell” video on it. This wont be in our lives for at least a century though.

      You know, that's a racist idea. I doubt it will happen.
      Why not use prisoners worldwide to generate electricity like turning threadmills?
      Or, what about collecting flatulence gases (farts) from people and animals? In the future, there could be tanks with tubing that plug into your anal orifice ... these could be jewelry like status symbols that people could wear openly and proudly. Further, the gases could be burned to power personal gadgets of all kinds. Also, people would not have to avoid eating food like beans and pizzas or chicharones like they do today.
      Or, my favorite idea: Breed people down to about the size of Chiquaquas or monkies. I can see where one or two sardines could then feed `an entire family! Think small, humans are monstrously huge. No need for this.
      Just think , small wives. Mine is a 145# monster that waddles around making me miserable. She can eat a whole doughnut in two bites. In the future wives could be down sized to be gentler, less obnoxious and consume much less than they do today. Just think, a whole PTA meeting could be held in a trailer or motor home.
      Think small people.

    #10 seems to be the least likely. I remember talk of this tech in the 1970s. Aside from the cost, there was also the hazard of beaming microwaves to earth. A similar tech was to use mirrors to beam focused light to receivers. I forget the details. I just recall the concept. In any case, excellent video.

    I know these new forms of energy are very expensive but I read an article in the New York Times that there was a experiment done near flagstaff, Arizona that fed the local prisoners beans and hot dogs for a six month period. The scientists were able to convert human gas to usable energy. in fact, one of the scientist said, during the month of September, the prisoners gave off enough gas from those wennies & beans to supply enough energy to the entire city of flagstaff for 6 months. The only problem that scientists were still working on was the residual lingering odor cloud cast around the city.

    Would also recommend to look into a potential of thorium. It is ubiquitous, abundant and the nuclear reactor to harness it's energy has already been developed back in 1950s with multiple working models. It's efficiency is much higher than current uranium based nuclear reactors. Check out videos of Kirk Sorensen on youtube. Thorium should be #1.

      India is in its advance stage of building thorium nuclear power reactors but electricity production can't start before 2050. Major problem is the cost of the project is more then Rs. 3,492 crore( $5.2 billion ) per year. Electricity generated from it would be sold to the State Electricity Boards at Rs. 4.44 a unit ( $ 0.07 ) India is a developing country and can't put lot of money in R & D but remember the engineers and scientific as good as those in developed countries.We have been to moon and to Mars.We are on a rise. We are Nuclear power and we are peaceful and need little help for developed countries like UK , US, FRANCE, etc

    • @truthpop
      @truthpop 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@panagiotisk7133 Tell Randell that, and ask him to comment. The energy is still there, and so are the hydrino materials he produces, which is the issue. The results partly confirm his hypothesis. Should he believe present theory and ignore things that don't fit, just to preserve the status quo. I've always been amazed at how people actually treat such enormously valuable things as a burden, just because it makes them look less intelligent, and interferes with their god-like status and vested interest in outdated beliefs and technology. These same people ignore and oppose people like physicist James McCanney, who'se work disproves some present theory taught. Politics/economics/power trump science, which the ruling elite sometimes falsify publicly, while they develop it secretly to use secretly (weather manipulation and weaponization, anti-gravity, etc.) They later implement it as they can without losing control of society, which is understandable. (anti-gravity and Farnsworth electrostatic fusion generator come to mind). Anyone can see that the present wind turbines are made to not work. McCanney designed and makes "Wing (wind) Generators" that work. Hope you are not like them. Watch Eric Dollard's laundry room demo showing an incandescent bulb produce an unexplained attractive force only when a DC impulse current is used. The Biefeld-Brown effect is disputed. They always use conventional explanations, even when they distort the facts to do it.

    The problem with salt reactors is they make fissile materials. And securing them would be a huge obstacle.
