Pololear does exist 😁 is the verb for being in a relationship
When a Chilean asks "do you want to be my girl/boyfriend?" They don't say "quieres ser mi novia/o?" Like the rest of Spanish people, they say "quieres pololear conmigo?", I would translate it to "do you want us to be in a relationship". So the boy is pololo and the girl is polola. Fun fact, "pololo" is a word from mapudungun, the mapuche language, and it refers to a species of fly, so I guess it was born from mothers to lock the boyfriend of their respective daughters, and it evolved to being used by the whole country, not just the mapuche territories

First of all I'd like to tell you I love your channel and I've been following it since the Iran video, which is about the time I started regularly using TH-cam. What a better chance to make a first comment than on a video that features my country, Peru. You did get right the part about the food and tourism, which we've been grinding for years now, since Machu Picchu was elected one of the 7 Wonders of the Modern Era; and since quinoa was served on some royal's wedding some few years ago, respectively.
I'd like to point out that, while I finally love seeing Peru in a video of yours, there's not such thing as the "business success" you mentioned. Basically, rich people got way richer, and the poor, while not poorer, stayed at the baseline. A nominal national poverty index of 20% backs this, but I'm sure the real number is larger by a lot, based mostly on what I see on the news and on the street everyday. Such other problemas as an informal unemployment rate of 75%, an anemia prevalence of 45%, and deep cracks and differences regarding the dignity, rights and opportunities for people based on their skin color and social position cripple the economy and social development of the country. Also, Laura Bozzo is some kind of persona non grata ever since she was related to Fujimori's regime and her show being considered an offense against human decency. While she was some big thing during the early 2000s, nobody around here has ever spoken of her ever since.
Nevertheless I have really enjoyed my country's minute of fame on your channel and I can't wait until Peru's video, or Nauru's next week, because I really like Nauru.

Barbs btw, Gran Colombia wasn’t called Gran Colombia, it was called Colombia, but for practical reasons, historians use the adjetive Gran (meaning big or great) to contrast it with modern day Colombia. Although cool video... Arepas are from Venezuela.
Arepas origin is disputed, but I would say modern Venezuelan arepas are better. That is coming from a Colombian.
Las arepas son de Colombia y estoy dispuesta a darme en la jeta con el que diga lo contrario 😌
"Chile: Preventing Argentina from Enjoying the Pacific Ocean Since 1818." -- from The Onion's satirical atlas, Our Dumb World.
Thank you, very informative! I’d love to see the “explained” series continue with other continents too🙏 Africa and Europe would be soo interesting!
This was awesome ! I feel like I understand so much better . Looking forward to the Venezuela edition . So sad.
I know it is small, but maybe Scandinavia, Extended Scandinavia, or the Nordics?
I am interested in learning more about Extended Scandinavia. For example, what is that exactly, and what geographical entities does it entail?! Please let us know if you have any more information about this!
Countries of the World Songs I believe Extended Scandinavia includes Finland, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, and the Åland Islands alongside the traditional Nordic Countries (Denmark, Sweden, and Norway).
I’d argue you may want to thrown in the Republic of Karelia in Russia as well as Estonia (if you’re including Finland, that is, seeing as Estonia is the little brother of Finland). Also Greenland, perhaps, though they aren’t exactly “Nordic” or “Scandinavian” anymore, given most of their population is indigenous peoples.
Sweden = Germany of Scandinavia
Denmark = Netherlands of Scandinavia
Norway = Switzerland of Scandinavia
criticalhard Finland’s only Nordic cause it was Viking territory, but they’re really different, because they don’t even speak an indo European language.
as a Venezuelan, I am willing to fight for the fact that arepas are from Venezuela
I'm from the Caribbean, Dominican Republic and I speak Spanish. People from South America very often forget not only that we are Hispanics but that the colonization of the whole continent started here.......
I think it’s because the conquest of the other nations was so much harder and epic compared to the Caribbean. You can kinda “rank” the standing of the Latino nations to each other by how hard of a struggle or troubled their histories are. In this case, the Caribbean nations arguably have equally as complicated histories as Brazil just with less land wealth and this being the reason why they’re mostly ignored. Most of the Latin nations get ignored arguably enough, with the Caribbean’s being sort of the gateway representation for the Latin continent since they’re the most well traveled IMO outside of the Mexicans and Brazilians. So it’s not that they’re ignored so much that they keep to themselves. Also, the only people who tend to forget history started in the Caribbean tend to be the Argentinians, who are low key infamous for thinking they’re the Nords of Latin America. If it makes you feel better, all the other countries and ethnicities are sort of embarrassed of them for this rather than feel intimidated. The other ones are proud of their complex histories whereas Argentina is sort of recognized as that peroxide brunette.
@@AB-sm1qf The oldest colonial city in the Americas. Founded by Bartolomé Columbus in 1496, the city of Santo Domingo was almost completely built during the 16th century. It has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Built by European settlers, the area holds the first streets, churches, houses, university, social and political institutions ever built by Europeans in the American Continent. Expeditions which led to Ponce de León's colonization of Puerto Rico, Diego Velázquez de Cuéllar's colonization of Cuba, Hernando Cortes' conquest of Mexico, and Vasco Núñez de Balboa's sighting of the Pacific Ocean were all launched from Santo Domingo.

We are working on the next few country videos however literally the DAY after we filmed this, the Venezuela gatherings and Juan Guaidó movements began. After the situation clears up a little bit and more information comes out we would like to do a follow up video explaining the current state of affairs. I will have my Venezuelan friend who has family in Venezuela helping me out as well. Stay tuned!
