I really like this idea of doing a deep dive on each custodes unit per detachement and best ways/strats to use them. I saw one guy went like 4-1 at a tournament recently using VP but insisted the only way to use them was using rapid ingress.
@@DCstroller Thank you. I know channels like Auspex cover a lot of the general information faster and better than I can. I wanted to provide something different with these deep dives. Go in depth, look for different ways we can use each unit in our different detachments.
I've waited for this video. Bikes' disadvantages: Toughness 6, bad guns, bad rules, very few synergies with detahcments, and stratagems, bullet magnet. However, as you said, they have a use!
While they aren’t very good this edition (at least so far) they are still my favorite unit in the army, and I run them regularly no matter how bad they are. This unit is literally the entire reason I started a Custodes army
The starter box dreadnought and jetbikes were the units to convince me to start playing w40k and custodes. I can't imagine what units to take out from my army to replace with jetbikes. Maybe if they were 45pts, they would see more play . Otherwise they need a full stats, unit rules and weapon rewrite, which will not happen as we already have a codex.
It really is a shame how suboptimal these are given how cool they look. Here’s hoping they get a rework or that the new detachment does them some favors.
@@HubtownHammer I feel like I recall seeing a video from a couple weeks ago about someone using them to pretty good effect in a tournament. I'll see if I can find the name of it.
Haha for quick silver i did use it flew over gretchin on an objective landed on the edge of the objetive and used it to clear last 3 won the game taking them off the home objective of my opponent..... Better then there shooting . If only they could advance and charge though
I dont really see a use for them at all, even in talons detachment. Venetari has fall back and charge as an ability, using added points for bikes and then having to use a CP to do what the venetari can do for free is just wasted.. well, everything. I do think the Shield captain on bike has some uses though as a single character to score points and take down stray's, especially in shield host with From the hall of armories enhancement. The unit though just drags everything down and it really needs a rework, i honestly think 6 out of 10 is way too generous.
@shiir440 I totally agree with you, but I gave it the 6 out of 10 for those who do not have venarari. I try to score these while keeping in mind that a lot of the Custodes player base may not have some of these much better Forgeworld units. If scoring for competitive only with full access to Forgeworld units, they get a 3 or a 4. Not useable The tanks are so good. Almost Auto includes at any competitive level while being so expensive and low stock is criminal.
@@HubtownHammerl don't have FW models , nor will l be able to afford them. I still think they are worse then everything l can take. I would take a sevond unit of guard before taking a unit of bikes.
@@HubtownHammer Agreed, the cost of FW units are insane. I have 18 venetari though, I kitbashed 9 of them using wings from other factions and a friend of mine printed a stand -in model for me for the rest. The three tanks I have though I bought and they certainly set you back. Maybe you could make a video together with some other content creator and get some suggestions for kitbashing venetari... They really are a must, and so really are the tanks but harder to kitbash. There are variants out there for printing though. I have always figured the biggest loss for custodes was that they did not put the tank, venetari, sagitarum and dreadnoughts in the codex along with more sister units and new models seeing how small our plastic range actually is
I have to disagree on Quicksilver Execution. It's an out-of-phase, non-attack means to inflict Mortal Wounds on a unit. This could be massive against dedicated bodyguard units that rely on specific strategems and unit abilities to survive.
@thecactusman17 Remember after you do that ability, you can't shoot or charge since you have to Advance to use it. If you have 3 bikes, that is a maximum of 6 Mortal wounds. Yes if you are just trying to get to a place on the board you may happen to Adance over an enemy unit then use it Other than that, it will never output more damage than just shooting then charging with the Bikes.
Love the models but started playing 40k in 10th so haven't really used these guys outside of the shield captain every now and again. Hopefully they get something in December!

They can surprise people with their speed. Lance ability makes them blend light to medium infantry units

Stocked up on these, super cheap 2nd hand, just in case they get good in the future lol
Not a bad idea at all. Custodes are too popular to keep them junk forever. They will be good again sooner than later.

I'm in the same boat, my friend. I started collecting Custodes at the end of 9th. Only played one game with them.
I want to experience good Jetbikes!
