Failed Invasion of the Yukon - Northstar Plays: Rise of Nations (C0, Ep4)

Welcome, or welcome back!
Before I attempt the challenging (especially as the Soviets) Cold War campaign in Rise of Nations, I thought I'd best get familiar with the game again (I played it many years ago, off CD) with a generic Conquer the World campaign.
After a little consideration, I decided to play as the Japanese- who have some decent bonuses through all the ages, but really shine in the late-game (with Barracks units gaining stacking bonuses for every Age AND military tech level...), though the Chinese would probably have suited my playstyle better (even in CtW, I remember I liked to build up my economy for a while before attacking- a habit I'll have to slowly learn to moderate or entirely cleanse myself of...)
After finishing the conquest of Kamchakta, I attempt to push into the Yukon. However, the Lakota offer fierce resistance to this, and I am pushed back out of my foothold...
