Loved your reaction. Dan is singing in Italian, German, Portuguese, and English with the chorus in Latin. The word choral as in chorus. Pronounced just like coral in the Great Barrier Reef. The choir effect is Dan singing his own backup by recording multiple tracks.

...which, of course, is why we all love ALL of his covers. It always irks me a bit when I see people posting things like, "Nobody will EVER do the songs better than...fill in the names." What they don't understand is that Dan isn't trying to either replace those songs (or singers), or necessarily trying to make them better, even. He's simply doing what Dan loves to do, and singing them the way they are living inside of HIM. To me, it would be an HONOR to have him like a song that I had sung, well enough to cover it! OH YEAH!

    • @BlackCat604_2

@@GrandmasGotGraceLW Agreed. Music is art and as such is open to interpretation and personal preference. I enjoy seeing the ways different artists can interpret the same song. Some I like, some I don't. It just so happens that I really like all of Dan's interpretations! 😀

The choir (multiple voices in the background) was Dan (and Dan, and at least one more Dan), of course. The chorus (the line that is sung between every verse, and then again at the end) is in Latin every time (that's the "Gloria" part). No matter what language in which the song is sung, the "glorias" are always sung in Latin.
What I watched for immediately, the first time I saw this (back in April when "Amazing Grace" was posted, was to see how Dan HANDLED the "glorias," because you are NOT supposed to take a breath throughout those runs. Not only doesn't he take a breath there, he doesn't take a breath going INTO them, or going OUT of them. Now THAT's impressive to me. I was still being impressed with "Amazing Grace" (same day, then, but I'm STILL impressed...with everything Dan does), but THIS song got my attention even more. This is the way the song was definitely MEANT to be sung. I have sung it in choirs for years and years and years, and have sung the solo parts many of those times. It's not an easy song to sing, IF you do it right, and Dan's version of it is SO MUCH MORE THAN RIGHT!
Thank you for your reaction. I'm really glad you enjoyed it. 😀

The consensus on "Viking Reacts" was that Dan Vasc's angel wings would be white with metal-gray feather tips. I'd have to agree. A Dan Vasc action figure would have... like... a blue light saber... unless we're talking Middle Earth, then Sindar elf definitely. Oh no -- fanboy-glimbal-lock! Houston, I'm nerd-spiraling! MAYDAY! • @GrandmasGotGraceLW
    @GrandmasGotGraceLW 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Since the Christmas season hit, I've been seeing all sorts of comments whenever I've been watching reactions to Christmas songs, that are showing the wrong terms for the things that appear and/or occur in several of the songs--mostly Dan Vasc's version of "Angels We Have Heard on High."
There seems to be a general confusion over the terms "CHORAL" (often misspelled "CORAL," which is the plant that grows into beautiful formations in salt water), "CHOIR," and "CHORUS."
Those three words are tied together, in that they all have to do with MUSIC and SONGS. They are not interchangeable, however.
    - - - - - - - - - -
    1) CHORAL ... stands for anything that has to do with the production of a song or a piece of music that contains one or more songs that have lyrics. Any one of those songs may be sung by a single person or any number of people.
    Usages:
"That choral presentation contains six songs, that tell an entire story."
"That piece of music is a great choral arrangement."
    - - - - - - - - - -
    2) CHOIR ... stands for the multiple people who get involved in a choral presentation. If there is a single person singing a song, the word "choir" would not be applied. A choir needs at least two people, because it is a group term.
    Usages:
"I could be (and have been numerable times throughout my life) a choir member. The choirs were created, and I joined the other members, in order to present choral arrangements."
"A choir director (one who teaches, organizes, and/or conducts a choir) will usually choose each choir member after a choral audition.
    - - - - - - - - - -
CHORUS ... As you can see, the root of this word is the same as with "choral" and "choir." However, it has to do strictly with the words/lyrics of the song/songs included in any choral arrangement. Typically, a song will contain at least two (usually poetic) VERSES.
Sometimes there is also a chorus (which can be sung either by a soloist or a choir). This can have the same type of rhythm and/or rhyming pattern, or it may not. It's not a verse, but it's also not sung just ONCE in any song. In order to be considered a CHORUS (rather than a third, fourth, etc. verse), it has to be repeated, meaning that the chorus is sung at least twice. A chorus can also be called a REFRAIN.
    - - - - - - - - - -
So...since we're referring to Dan's version of "Angels We Have Heard on High" here, I'll now provide a simplified (all English) portrayal of the lyrics, the way they would be written for a singing group, if they already knew the tune/music by heart...in other words, just the lyrics, in the order in which they should be sung.
When Dan sings the song (which has four official verses), in four different languages, I'm not sure, but I THINK he's singing ONLY the first verse, because he ends up in English, with the first verse of the song. I would imagine he did not start in Italian with the fourth verse, then switch to German using the third verse, then to Portuguese singing the second verse, just so he could switch to English for the first verse...though he may have. I didn't take the time to go check that out.
However, I DO know that after every verse (which is the way the song is always sung), the CHORUS has been sung. A chorus may be sung by any number of appointed people, and its words will always be the same, as you'll see. In this case, the words to the CHORUS ("Gloria in excelsis deo") are ALWAYS sung in Latin. The direct translation is, "Glory in high God." However, we generally think of it as being, "Glory to God in the highest!" or "Glory to the Great High God."
By the way, it's very much a THING, that anyone who DOES sing the chorus for "Angels We Have Heard on High" does NOT take a breath anywhere during the word "Gloria," which is greatly extended. Dan portrays that unwritten rule PERFECTLY.
In Dan's version, he HAS "planted" a CHOIR of unseen "Little Dans" (grin) singing in light harmony behind his SOLO of the CHORUS.
    - - - - - - - - - -
Basic English Lyrics for "Angels We Have Heard on High"
    Verse 1:
Angels we have heard on high,
    sweetly singing o'er the plains,
    and the mountains in reply
    echoing their joyous strains:
    Refrain (CHORUS):
    Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
    Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
    Verse 2:
    Shepherds, why this jubilee?
    Why your joyous strains prolong?
    What the gladsome tidings be
    which inspire your heav'nly song
    Refrain (CHORUS):
    Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
    Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
    Verse 3:
    Come to Bethlehem and see
    Him whose birth the angels sing;
    come, adore on bended knee
Christ the Lord, the new-born King
    Refrain (CHORUS):
    Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
    Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
    Verse 4:
See Him in a manger laid,
Jesus, Lord of heav'n and earth!
    Mary, Joseph, lend your aid,
sing with us our Savior's birth
    Refrain (CHORUS):
    Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
    Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
