I was considerate of metadata and search terms, and my self-published book still does not show up to page ten and beyond of Amazon, using the search terms.
Also, it's hard to get a new book noticed or reviewed by people. All the reviewers for my religious/spiritual genre of books are 'booked.'

Setting up meta data is just one piece of the puzzle. They tend to work better when you also do things to marketing and drive sales, then the book gets pushed up in the algorithm.
