    Great video! Made me feel better about installing 4 of these fans by myself. Took about an hour and a half!

    I bought a similar one from Costco and was pleasantly surprised how easy they are to install the days. Nice video

    What is there is no joist right at the hole? Would I need to install a brace in the ceiling, and would that Hunter fan work with that approach?

    it says "warning. the fan must be grounded!". sooo how do i do that? the green wire is already ON the fan. do i need to put another grounding wire from the fan to the box??

    • @handydadtv

      Connect that green wire to the bare copper wire in the box. If you don’t have a bare copper wire, I assume your metal box is grounded so connect it to the box.

      @@handydadtv i dont have a bare copper wire. my house is old. built in the 60s! there is only a white that comes down, and a purple and orange wire. there is no black, red, gray or anything else. i put the white into the white and that's it. i dont need a wall switch because my fan came with a remote control so all i need is a constant flow of power to it. i thought for sure there would be a "hot" coming out of the ceiling ...but there is not.
      Im stuck now :( pls help! what do i do to make it get power???

    • @handydadtv

      @skyguy1988 Those are non-standard wire colors in North America (assuming that’s where you are). You need to use a voltage tester to determine which is hot and which is neutral. Don’t assume white is neutral. Do not guess. Test.
      If you don’t have a ground wire, you can connect the fan’s ground wire to the metal box.

    Do these "Hunter Express" fans with the easy wire connect work with, lets say, Lutron fan and light controls so that you can control the fan speed and light diming that way instead of having to use the pull chain or remote?

    • @toni46

      A little bit more context about why I'm asking this. I called the Hunter to ask if the fan and light could be controlled by wall switches (both in general and the dimming/fan control aspect of the fan). He said no and that the only way my fan can be controlled is through the controller. (mine is the model 52758 which came with a controller not pull chain). I'm hoping he just didn't know what he was talking about. I like the fan but the controller is horrid.

    • @handydadtv

      I can’t go against Hunter’s advice, but they are saying you can’t use BOTH. To use a wall control, you’d need to bypass the remote control module.
      If the remote control module is internal to the fan housing, you probably can’t bypass it.
      If it’s wired in-line above the ceiling mounting bracket (like most remote control fans), you can probably bypass it. Just understand you’re doing this at your own risk and will likely void the warranty.

    • @toni46

      @@handydadtv Got it. The wiring harness of my fan is looks exactly like the fan you're installing and connects the same, but you're saying that if the control module is in the fan's body, then I probably won't be able to bypass it. Makes sense. However, I am able to turn the fan light on and off with one of the switches. I'm just not able to turn the fan on/off unless I use the remote or turn the switch off that gives power to the fixture. But, if I make power to the fixture hot all the time like you did then I should be able to use the switch to control the fan! I'll need to look more into this. Thanks

    • @handydadtv

      No remote with this model. I don’t recommend remotes living in a townhome because the remote channels are shared across all brands and your fans will be controlled by your neighbors.
      But a remote can easily be added to any fan: th-cam.com/video/jMC6UXpx7mw/w-d-xo.html

    Couldn't you have attached the fan lights to the dimmer switch "the one to the left of the fan switch"? And then the fan could have its speed selector/ on off switch.

    • @handydadtv

      Yes, if you didn’t want to control the fan light separately.

    • @robertjoseph1592

      I think he meant move the wire to the recessed lights over to join up with the fan light on the simple switch. Then use the dimmer switch to provide variable speed to the fan.

    • @robertjoseph1592

      Let me try again. Remove red wire from simple switch, and swap places with the black load wire on the dimmer switch. That provides variable speed for the fan, and the fan light goes on with the recessed lights.

    • @handydadtv

      @robertjoseph1592 Right, it would mean joining the fan light to the ceiling lights so you couldn’t control the fan light separately. Then, you could either keep the toggle switch for the fan motor or swap it out for a fan speed control. (A lighting dimmer switch won’t work.)

      Ah! Good point I didn’t think of! The dimmer on this device can control ceiling lights instead of a fan light, as long as they’re dimmable.
