    I. Praise. God. For. This. Man. Of. God!!!! I praise God for him. He is an EXCEPTIONAL pastor and Bible teacher. A pastor and Bible teacher that really wants you to think and not force feed you pre-packaged perspectives. There are just a few positions he has that I do not agree with but he has challenged me to challenge my own pre-suppositions as well as his positions as I have prayerfully gone back to the text and allowed the Holy Spirit to search and lead me afresh. I have become a more balanced and healthier believer. My understanding of faith and God has evolved, not all of it, but a good portion of it and it has been through the power of God as He has used Dr. Howard John-Wesley's ministry. God bless you pastor Wesley. You are doing a good work. Do not come down off the wall.

If I lived in VA, I assure you I would be a member of this church and not only a member, I would be an active, singing, praising God every chance I got at AFBC member. I actually am trying to convince someone to bring me to this church at least once. Dr. Wesley, you may never know how your teachings and sermons have helped me during some very difficult times in my life. It was by no accident that I found you on youtube after never have heard of you or your ministry. Thank God for you as the messenger for me. ~ Dr. M. White

I'm Muslim but I was raised Christian. Now, to be clear, I don't have any intention to go back to the Church. I'm satisfied with Islam's beliefs and theology and they satisfy my heart more than Christianity. But I would say that if I were raised in a church under this sort of preaching, I probably would have felt more "at home" and probably wouldn't have felt a need to convert. The Church I went to was fundamentalist, so when I started to learn about the contradictions and controverial issues brought up in the talk on my own, I thought they couldn't be reconciled with Christianity and so I felt a need to look elsewhere.

This was a really good CAYA. He's talking about something that many Baptist Church's need to talk about "The Authority of Scripture". I would have loved for him to flesh out the social construction of the inerrancy vs. errancy argument, which is a child of the Enlightment Period and not a linchpin of orthodox Christianity. The Bible isn't trying to prove how perfect it is, neither is it trying to fit into our current scientific and historical methodologies. The Bible is trying to do one thing and one thing only, and that's point us to Jesus.

I loved this, Pastor HJW does well with helping his folk garner a more whole and dare I say faithful understanding of their faith. I've learned so much from him.
But quick note on the greek term theotokos, it translates to "God-bearer" or loosely "Mother of God (incarnate)" and it was used in reference to the Virgin Mary. Its significance came about in the Church's debate about the relationship between Jesus' humanity and divinity in the 5th century AD. I could go on and on about that debate, but I'm short on time. If you google Cyril of Alexandria vs. Nestorius, christotokos, hypostatic union, and/or Council of Ephesus AD 431 you'll be able to learn about the main points of that debate and its significance for what the church believes and how the church lives out that belief.

Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life. I don't care how you interpret the Bible. Get that wrong, and you won't make it into heaven; and you won't receive the guidance of the Holy Spirit. You have to study, believe, and obey the Word. You may argue religion, but we can't argue the truth of the scriptures. You can't interpret the scriptures without the Holy Spirit. Been watching Alfred Street Baptist Church online for the last five years! Praise the Lord!

Not quite holding responsibility of what he is teaching but giving it and saying for lack of better term, that he is not quite sold on this Word. I haven't watched videos for 7 months or so and decided to see if anything changed today and clearly people know their Bible because some of you that would call it out see it too. Sadly, people like to feel good and they will never call him out or leave because they like to feel good and who cares about false or misleading doctrine, right?

God's word changes not , no matter what century we are in. God's word is the same throughout time. God's word changes to fit no one. He said be HOLY and he means for us to be a HOLY people. We are to live according to his standards, not for the word to fit our standards on how we want to live but on what he has given us to live. Come up to God's standards, no if and buts about it.

      @wwdunc 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@amcra1, I will NOT be quiet about the truth! God’s word-Scripture/the Bible-is truth (John 17:17). It is “the word of God written.” What we think of it, and how we respond to it, matters. Jesus has already made the judgment. He said, “Whoever is of God hears the words of God. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God” (John 8:47).

      I agree, Orlando.
Amcra1-this is not about “haters”, it’s about discernment. There are so great points in HJW’s sermons but I too have noticed more and more that he undermines scripture. Please answer this, how does he know that it is belief in Jesus alone that will save you? It comes from the very same scripture that he puts holes in...its one thing to ask questions about what you’re reading and it’s another to say that it contradicts itself. If you believe that and have proof, what makes you a follower of Christ?

I was disappointed but not surprised. The Bible states "And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith" (1 Corinthians 15:14, NIV). As a committed believer in the gospel of Jesus Christ, based on the Word of God, and my experience of salvation I cannot entertain that there is any other method of salvation. Yes, I am an exclusionist, because Jesus died for me, He arose for me, He conquered Hell, death and the grave so that I can have eternal life. I will always believe my Savior's words "Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6, NIV). Love people enough to stand for the truth; this post-truth era is an eternal danger to our souls.

    • @sueq.8296

Until Paul came along. The conversation of salvation for none Jews wasn’t on the table. ( I believe it was Devine intervention) but until he went to the counsel and said let’s let “them” so from that standpoint I would hope you would have an open mind. And we should debate and have conversation about what is written and how our personal experience reshapes our thinking of the word.
I have a friend that grew up in a different religion and believes it with all her heart. Does that mean she is going to hell because that’s what she was taught
.My question is God made all people, yet will send some of those people to hell because they didn’t believe in Jesus? What if you grew up knowing only the religion your family participate in. You see sign and wonders in that. Your prayers or answered. Then what?
What about the people Jesus healed that we’re not of Jewish lineage. ( he didn’t say accept me as your personal savior) he just said go and sin no more. So they went /or will go to hell?
Humans can not fathom the mind of God we can only Trust debate and hold on to hope.

Mr. Wesley if you question the inerrancy of Scripture, the same Scripture that Christ and the apostles affirmed, what is your foundation for faith in Christ? Is Christ a liar? Christ is not a mystical concept. Believers are to affirm objective, propositional truth about Christ. What we believe about God and the gospel matters. And if you have no reliable foundation for truth, not your subjective experience, then you are left with existential absurdity. Many of your arguments are no different from those of skeptics and atheists and have already been refuted. You purport to be a pastor yet you continually cast doubt on the word of God, in the midst of a generation who have been seduced by post-modern thought, instead of earnestly contending for the faith once for all handed to the saints. This generation does not know the holiness of God and these sessions only bring dishonor to God and creates confusion. Teach the word of God unapologetically or step aside.

Pastor took way to many personal liberties with this message seemingly to placate the modern times. We live by the new covenant not by the legalistic doctrine. Pastor misrepresents the difference between salvation and (lifestyle) pattern of conduct. Pastor makes claims with certainty that simply are not factual. Conveniently Pastor claims that God is too big to understand but then he also claims with certainty that man understands all science. This logical failure alone causes much justification to pause and reject the ideas in this message. Jesus raised from the dead... that flies in the face of science and all human understanding... but YES it did happen and YES he is coming again. DISCERNMENT folks!!! Pray for it...

But education and learning is about listening and considering all opinions and ideas; considering the validity as well as short comings of points and ideas; and forming an informed, reasoned opinion or conclusion. In this instance, also holding those ideas and thoughts up against Biblical and historical scrutiny. Only ignorant folks would draw conclusions or form opinions without listening to and considering others' ideas and thoughts in their full context; If that's what you do then that probably explains your willingness to accept the ideas promulgated in this short sighted message. I've followed Pastor Wesley for a long time. I can see what has led to and been the source of some of the personal trials and tribulations he has brought into his church and his personal life. Some times we have to learn to set our ego aside and get out of our own way and get out of God's way. God doesn't need us to be "smart"; he only calls us to be OBEDIENT. Trust and Obey... there really is no other way... to be happy in Jesus but to Trust and Obey (not understand everything nor feel good about everything... simply trust and obey). God bless you and keep searching the scriptures for answers... that is where you will find them... not in some guys ideas nor interpretations based on feelings and emotions.
