The wording Original Version, which appears on the pocket of the single, perhaps refers to the fact that it uses the original writing of the piece but with different time and effects.
However, who composed the song, are not Hot Butter or a member of the group but rather Gershon Kingsley:

"Popcorn" (first version "Pop Corn") is an instrumental composed by Gershon Kingsley in
1969 for the album "Music to Moog By" on Audio Fidelity Records label. The Moog synthesizer instrumental became a worldwide hit, first in 1972 when a version by Hot Butter was released.
