    I always get a warm fuzzy feeling when I see dads doing a good job with the kids.
    My own father did a less than stellar job. Never showed any effort for us kids, and I don't remember him doing any kind of activity with us, even after the divorce, he never showed interest in us as a person.
    My mom is always surprised when she hears that my husband does stuff with the children, does help in the house, that I can go out with a friend and he cares for the children. She is also suprised my brother does all these things for his wife and baby girl, even though she raised him, and mostly alone.
    What I want to say is: We all get shaped by our experiences. My mom never experienced a good dad in her own life, not growing up, not having children herself. So for her, that stuff will always seem "strange".
    For me, I expect the father of my children to be involved with them, not only on a financial level. But still, I get teary eyed when he does things for the children, because my dad never did... and well... that still hurts it seems

      That makes sense! I also like seeing fathers being good parents since my Dad was never very involved in my life and neither was my ex with our children.

    Thank you! Yes, I do find it mildly insulting when men are praised for what should be basic skills and decency as though that were somehow extraordinary and worthy of notice. Raise the bar!

    My dad was smart, he taught me how to cook eggs when I was 6. Not only did I know how to cook for myself at that point, but I also would cook for him!
    Teaching kids to take care of themselves and give mommy and daddy a break sometimes (age appropriate of course), now that should go viral!

    If we keep praising people for doing the barest of minimums required to be a decent human, the barest minimum is all we're going to get. Set the bar higher.

    I remember taking my baby girl to the chiropractor once and all the ladies there were flabbergasted that a MAN would bring his child in Without His Wife!! A few of them commented that their husbands would never do that. It took all my effort to not tell them that their husbands are useless. And let's not start on me taking my kid to baby play group. The mom's there keep giving me weird looks that say "What is this weird creature that just walked in with a child?"

  • @Jenny_bell_key
    @Jenny_bell_key 6 ปีที่แล้ว +50

    Word! When I’m somewhere without my kids I try not to roll my eyes every time someone asks me if my husband is at home “babysitting”. Umm....no...he’s at home taking care of our children while I’m out of the house for a change doing X, Y, Z (usually grocery shopping 🙄). He’s their dad. That’s what he does.

    • @heidibrown2357
      @heidibrown2357 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      My husband feels the same. When he takes our kids out somewhere, someone will inevitable ask him if he's babysitting...he says, "No, I'm Fathering," very politely.

      Exactly. I was changing wing mirrors/housing on our car and some guy walks past and says "that's a man's job isn't it." Well actually no that "man", my husband who works full time was inside playing with his daughter and cooking dinner. I was changing them so he could spend what little time he gets with her as I'm a stay at home mum. People need to get priorities right and stop judging.

      You just spoke my mind ma'am!!!!

    • @a1r9a9shi99
      @a1r9a9shi99 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly! As if it’s extremely rare for women to know how to maintain a car if she has a car and drives or do other physically demanding tasks! I always say, there are no lists of things people are not allowed to do based on biological sex they were born with! Yes, one sex might be better doing certain things than the other, but that doesn’t mean people can’t do thing that aren’t typically their sex’s forte..also, some people might be better at doing things other sex usually are better at!
      Bottom line, I think everyone still has to know how to be self sufficient. Needs of life is the same, male, female or whomever else you identify as! (ie. we all need food, shelter, clothing, sense of belonging and acceptance in the society..etc)

    We took our son to eat pizza one day and my fiancee and our son are playing at the table. This older couple is watching them smiling and stuff. When I noticed the complimented my fiancee saying they've never seen a guy pay so much attention to his kid before. When we go out both of us love on our son play with our son while we're waiting for food and make sure to try to keep him occupied so he's not restless. When we go out shopping for groceries I push him around making motor noises and looking like an idiot just so our son is happy and doesn't try to climb out of the cart. I love that we get compliments on how adorable our son is and how cute he is when he and his father play around. But to be honest I don't think I've ever been complimented for paying any kind of attention to him. I don't mind really. But I don't see very many parents where I live male or female that acts as goofy as we do just to make our kid happy. It's not an all the time thing but we usually do something with him because if we don't he tries to climb under the table or out of the cart hoping to get into something. He's a handful.

    So glad I married a REAL man. He can't keep up with my standards in the kitchen or the household or many little parenting situations, but that is only because he doesn't have the same hours of parent training that I get throughout the day, because he's working hard at his job to provide for us financially. So yeah, there will be times when him doing the minimum should be valued just as much as me going above and beyond. But there are many situations in our family life where those roles are reversed.
