I just won a bid on an upgrade on NCL that took me from an ocean view to a club balcony suite. I bid $50 (X2) the lowest amount available, and I won.
Here is my trick I call my NCL PCC when I get a bid email. I got one for my Dec cruise and got upgraded to a club balcony from a studio for $150 and got to pick the cabin. I am a solo and no extra for the person not their. One of my friends did this too and got a balcony from an inside for $28 both cheaper then the minimum bids and you got told the cabin. I do this alot and score upgrades cheaper then bidding. NCL has been great about upgrading me. It seems to me Don as much business as you give cruise lines you should be able to be upgraded much cheaper without bidding

We won a bid on RCCL and got a grand suite. The problem we encountered was quite a lot of benefits were not available because of Covid. We complained and we did get a refund to be applied to a future cruise.
Go for the Aqua Suite!! I stayed in it! It is amazing and had a wrap around balcony so you have a quiet balcony area!

Good luck Don. It is about the money. Last month we were in the Haven on NCL with a low bid. Our strategy is to place bids on multiple levels. They will only accept one if we are successful. BTW the Haven was full even though the ship was about 50% capacity. Absolutely no penalty for trying. Once again Good Luck on the bid.
Bid $660 for upgrade inside to MSC Yacht Club deluxe balcony and won.
Saved about $2300. Best suite perks ever ! 😊

We sailed on the Allure with the Star class and had Romina as our genie. We were in the 2 bedroom Aqua Suite. She was great. Good Luck!

My wife and I are cruising next month on the Carnival Panorama 7 day cruise to the Mexican Riviera. We booked this cruise initially on a special offer from Carnival for $115.00 each for an Internal Cabin plus fees etc. Yesterday we were offered a Balcony Cabin upgrade for $105.00 each, which means our 7 day cruise is costing us $220.00 each plus fees. I only offer this because it shows you need to watch your preferred cruise line's website, blasts etc for special offers. In October we cruised with Royal Caribbean and bid on a 2 category upgrade for the minimum of $100.00 each which we won. I know we live in special times which means if you are ready to cruise look for these special offers. We have been cruising for over two decades and the current pricing is unquestionably the best for the time we have been cruising. Don we are thankful for you and Tony for the last 19 months and God Bless!

I bid on a grand suite for my royal carribean cruise next week and just got notification that I got the upgrade. I bid the lowest bid allowed so was surprised I got it hahaha.

Don, the Dec 5th Allure sailing has been pretty much sold out of anything above junior suites for a few weeks now...so unless there is a no-show or last minute cancelation, bidding on anything above a junior suite is pretty much a waste of time in my opinion. Just a few weeks ago the prices on this sailing were specifically lowered on Owners Suites and Crown Loft Suites to just a few dollars above the price of a Junior Suite and everyone upgraded themselves for way less money than the minimum Royal Up bids for those categories. You must do your homework on Royal Bid and watch pricing as it's often cheaper or sometimes no cost to just call and upgrade yourself if the timing is right. You do however have good chances bidding and winning a JS as there still are plenty of those available. Good Luck Don!!!

Yeah, you can win something really nice, but you should also talk about the extras costs and daily tips for the butler services. You are tipping for more than one person to wait on you hand and foot.

I won an aquaclass upgrade from veranda on the Celebrity Millennium for $430 (minimum was $400). There was only 561 guests (25% full) so that probably had a lot to do with us winning but like Don says - You never know.
Did you also receive all perks with the upgrade? Like The Blue, Persian Garden, drink package, tips and Wi-Fi?
I won with a min bid today from a promenade stateroom to a panoramic ocean view.

I wouldn't go by what the indicator on their website shows. They can make it show whatever they want, in an attempt to make you bid more.I wouldn't bid any more than I would have been willing to spend in the 1st place.Just a thought.
We are on Jewel of the Seas right now and I want to mention that at least in the case of this ship they have this new cabin venting system where all cabins circulate and vent their air (Covid related) so that the air is constantly refreshed on the ship. The venting happens about 3/4 the way down the port side towards the rear. The idea is great and I understand why this is being done and support it however the fans they are using are just whining away and you can hear what sounds like a weed whacker buzzing away here from cabins close to the vent. 10th floor especially - we love our small suite we bought but my good that buzzing sound makes it hard to sit on the balcony. I reported it to Royal Caribbean’s Facebook team and they nicely responded that they will notify the Ops people but that venting buzz is terrible. I wish our bid to move up had been accepted. Shame too because this suite is a very nice one otherwise…..

It be my first time on Balcony on my cruise next week. Would not know what to do with a suite
ALWAYS book a cabin you are happy with, and bid on upgrades you would be wonderfully surprised if you won it at that price. Never have a bad cruise that way, but be careful, asome rooms in upgraded categories may not be located in your preferred area of the ship.

If you get the 2 bedroom, can you cancel hers and get a future cruise credit?
I’ll stick with a regular balcony suite. I’m never in there anyway.

Too me, these bids are way too expensive, especially since most people are not in the cabin a lot. Save your money and don't bid.

If it were a 15 day cruise I'd say go for it but how much time do you really spend in your room you usually working maybe next time

It's going to be a huge waste of money if you win and RCCL doesn't refund the fare for the second cabin.

I believe so, if they have unsold cabins they will send an email inviting to bid. I've done it several times before COVID-19.
