For the people who don't have elastic, you can cut the down part of old leggings or an old stretchy shirt. It works great and is very comfortable. It is a great alternative to elastic.
    Whoeverisreadingthishaveagooddayandstayhealthy
Edit: thank you for so many likes.
Another tip: For those of you who don't have a thing to pull the elastic, put a safety pin through one end of the elastic. Then put the safety pin in the hole for elastic and push it with your fingers till it comes out from the other end of the hole.
    Hope this helped.
Another way of doing it is opening up a paper clip and bending it in a way so that there is only one bend that closes up at an end. You can put the tool you made through the space for elastic and put the elastic through the gap and pull through.(this way works only with small holes/spaces for putting elastic through)
~_**you dont have to read the second tip if you don't want to**~_

I made a trial one to get the right size of circle and also the right length of elastic, you don't want too tight or too loose either. She is 12, and dainty...her elastic was 10.5 inches long each side. I sewed them on the machine too as knots were uncomfy, but this is an excellent tutorial, thank you!

So I'd like to pose some thoughts on masks that I've not seen addressed: I've been a nurse for 37 years. Based on what I learned about masks...
    1. We exhale humidity. Once the mask becomes moist, it can actually wick particles into it, especially if you live in a high humidity area. People should change masks frequently if they get moist.
    2. Masks fitting too tight may keep you re-breathing C02, especially if you use a filter with questionable permeability. Also, filter should be changed frequently (see #1)
    3. Even if you wear masks, your eyes are vulnerable. If you don't normally wear glasses, buy some with window glass. You must protect your eyes, and glasses will keep you from rubbing your eyes inadvertantly and from secretions from coughs and sneezes.
    God's luck all!

Used dinner plate to cut circle on paper then folded into four, took one 1/4 section and cut cardboard ten plate.
From This you can draw out line across material , less material wastage ...four of these make one mask.
Sew down curve edge two together and repeat .. this gives you inner and outer sections , you then place
together with seems on out side of both sections. Check this before you sew.
Then sew across top leavening leaving 3 cm at start and at end.
Repeat at other edge. Use the open area at one end to turn inside out.
Tuck the open edge both ends ..place the hat elastic and sew.
This video was very helpful but found this tweek better for me.

For those of you who don't have a thing to pull the elastic, put a safety pin through one end of the elastic.

The virus is carried in microscopic droplets- the layers of material will catch them and hopefully stop you from breathing in the droplets Its Not the Air Itself its the little teeny tiny drops of water in your breathe that can't be seen like steam but smaller. And ppl say "I'm a nurse I know" well how come they don't know this!! I worked in Healthcare for 25+ yrs I know what I'm talking about. These will help a great deal for ppl that can't fine mask geez you can cut up a shirt, bandana, scarf, pillowcase, sheet , anything! Walmart sells material in remnants cheap, and if you buy that muslim stuff that you iron to the back it will make another bearer inside- There are ways!! Stay Safe! You & your loved ones!

Be happy, but let the ones that want to be protected to be! I don't understand your problem. I'm western so, usually western don't really use masks, but even before this all pandemic incident I was thinking in some months I should wear masks, I don't want to be sick and I'll be at public transportation a lot... @Curtis Tisfuckingberger Yes, the flu kills. And we have a history of how many it kills every year. But we do not have that information for the coronavirus. China should be the ones with solid statistics... but they've basically admitted they lied to the whole world... and are still most likely lying. So, that leaves the rest of the world to try to figure out how this virus works.
All the history we have of this virus is over the past 2 months, max!
So it's impossible to know how many it kills "per year" as you attempted to assert.
      Grow up.
Your choice of name pretty well indicates your immaturity level.

I had read one good tip from some medical personnel that it would be very necessary to use two different color/design material for the mark and make sure you do not use the side that once you have placed on the outer side. The outer side if placed on the inner side facing your skin, you are allowing the germs that were already stuck on the outer side making you more vulnerable getting corona infection. I hope you would make the next mask with 2 different color/designed material. Be safe and stay safe.

    • @dee4174
      @dee4174 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

@Curtis Tisfuckingberger I have an annual flu jab, which offers some protection. There is no jab for this. I have 3 family members working on the front line. My sister has been a nurse since 1984. She is a matron and works on a covid ward. She is currently living in a hotel so that she protects her family. She assures me that this is worse than the flu and a desperate illness and I believe her. She is in a soulless hotel, with no hot food, every night rather than going home to a lovely family home. She would not put herself through that for nothing. She has asked me to make masks for her family, not for at work, but so that she can go home and see her kids for a few hours. I know media love to be sensationalist, but from someone on the front line I can verify this is real, serious and not to be taken lightly.

I would leave one small side open, to add in the “Blue Paper towels” cut to the size and slide in for better protection. The blue ones are thicker and we’re noted to be very effective. From Lowes home improvement. Or the middle paper part of a new heating & air filter, it has to be allergen resister and it has a lot of other stuff listed on packaging for protection. Nurses have been doing this. They pull it out every evening and have several cut out and just replace them. Hope this helps someone!

Thank you for this tutorial. I have very limited skills when it comes to sewing, but I managed to make these up for myself and my family. It was much comfier to wear than the pleated variety. The only advice I would give, is that depending on the stretchiness of your elastic, you may need more. I had to use double the amount for my daughter (a 7 year old) as it wouldn’t reach her ears, using the amount specified in the video!

Its more safer if you add extra layers of cloth or a filter underneath. The virus stays in the air for a few hours and young healthy people can get it if they are over exposed. A baby, a dog, a lion and 17 year olds even got the virus, remember that. It is best for everyone to wear masks because you can be asymptomatic (show no symptoms but can still spread the virus and die from it) and young healthy people can get it if they are over exposed. A baby, a dog, a lion and 17 year olds even got the virus, remember that. Oh and there is a 2nd wave of infections in Europe, the US might be hit next. Good luck everyone
