Do you not 'hear' the underlying mento pulse in the rendition?. I think it works! The choir does not have to force it. Its there in the music even though they perform the piece in their 'style'. Kudos
This is a pretty good performance by a decent church choir and a good conductor. The fact that the piece is by a Jamaican composer does not mean that it has to have throbbing Crbbean beats. Check out Frederic Cowen, Eric Levy, or Ted Runcie. I think Mr Dexter would be at least OK with the performance since the piece seems to be "pastoral" in style. This composer is open to heterogeneous instead of homogenous interpretations. This result is far from disappointing to me. Kudos to Jeffrey et al.
I'm in 2022 and I've played this video too many times to count. Did I mention I'm Trinidadian living in Jamaica, and had the honor of meeting Mr Dexter? How I see it, this is God's word being played out. I Love this song, and I Loved this choir's performance. Thank you so much!

Good insights, here. Thanks!
Thank for your insights, Kieth Noel!

Thanks for your comment. We have a great percussionist, who would love to see a version with Caribbean beats!

The tempo is different from the written scores; however, I enjoyed your spin on it.
Very well done, but lacking the throbbing caribbean beats/ Wish Noel Dexter coulod see this!

I am enjoying it actually. Noel Dexter, himself, used explore various genres and mix and blend to the Caribbean flavours.
