桜の木を使ってククサを作りました。塊から削りだすのは大変です。
途中で一回割れてしまい、もう一度イチから作りました＾＾；

I see a lot of negativity in these comments around his lack of safety wear, the room he's working in, and most of all his use of power tools. When I watch this man work I see someone living, enjoying thier life. I see an artist using tools available to him to create a one of kind piece of work.
So instead of shaming someone for not doing things the way we think they should be done, instead enjoy the fact that he is showing his way of doing it.

I disagree. He is making a video for thousands of people to see. He dropped an ax on the floor next to his slipper covered foot. To me that shows no respect for his tools and an accident waiting to happen. He is using a drill while he holds the project unsecured. Maybe this set-up was for the camera, but I would not want anyone watching to think it was ok and hurt them self.

Every artist uses a different technique to create a work of art. I use traditional carving tools and power tools to finish my spoons, kitchenware, and cups. Your work is very nice and gives me inspiration. Thank you for sharing your wonderful skills.

タイトルの通り荒っぽい作り方で電動工具を多用してます。
本来原始的に作る場合はフックナイフというのを使って地道に掘って行って、外側はナイフで地道に削るのだと思います。それがめちゃめちゃ大変なのでいろいろ使ってやってみました！

How many of your viewers noticed that at 7:22 you can see an old red pencil sharpener on his work bench. It sits on a little "chrome base" and has two little "ears" that you pinch together as you pull out the opening ring. After inserting the pencil, as you crank the handle which is on the back side, the pencil will "self feed" into the little red pencil sharpener. I made it from cherry trees. Originally it is made of birch trees. When finished, let it dry. Boil it with salt so it doesn't break.
Cherry is absolutely my favorite wood to work with I I am currently finishing a walking stick made from the same wood

Around 8:56, he puts a round container on the desk. It has SALT written on it. It looks to be rock salt or something similar. Not your regular American table salt.

I think it was a 1 1/4 forstner drill bit
A hard way to make kuksa. I use only an axe, one chisel, one smal carving knife and one curved carving knife. Anyway, if you had these tools and you have the pleasure to do it i'm sure you enjoy your coffe when you have a project, because the kuksa it is made by you. :) Have fun! :)
Hi, I really want to know for how long you recommend to boil a piece of very thin wood (like a bowl) and what tempeture?
If you're boiling water in an open container then it will be somewhere around 100 degrees Celsius. Anything higher than that and the water will be a gas. I say around 100 degrees C because it depends on your elevation as well, higher elevation means lower pressure and a lower boiling temperature.

It's to cleanse the wood of any contaminants, also some say it helps stabalize the wood so it doesn't crack when going from wet to dry so often.

まいどです＾＾いやぁ～ほんと手間かかりましたよ！（笑）どうやろ合間合間に作ったので２週間以上かかりました。今回で２回目ですがもうしばらく作りたくないです～～。
バイスはフライフィッシング用です！毛ばり作ったりルアー作ったりするの好きで前にやってました。
ただ、近場に良い川がないので長いことつりはやってないんですよ～道具は日とそろえ持ってますけどね!

Well done, nice design. However, wrong choice of wood for traditional kuksa. Kuksa is made from burls, so that the grain of the wood goes in the direction of the cup structure.

I used to think the only way to do it was with and axe and knife. I now see that the most important thing is the end product. Why not use power tools to make something beautiful? It's not like were caveman anymore.
