This has to be the BEST and Severely Underrated Band I've ever heard! Someone sometime COMPLETELY messed up what music is and we now have the modern day "Music"
I have loved this song since it came out almost 20 years ago. Played it repeatedly--haunting, magical. I went to see Xymox over 15 years ago in concert live in Houston. This song was their only hit that made it to popular AM listening at the time--their signature song, really. Even then it was not played much. To my surprise-they did not play this song in concert! I tried to approach stage & request--they were not friendly and were quite aloof and not audience connected. Let down.
Timeless magic from a band in their prime. Sad that Anke and Peter are still not part of COX....the original line up of Ronny, Anke and Peter was nothing short of astonishing!
I miss Anka (I misspelled the name from the previous comment). However, Clan Of Xymox is still rocking. COX is one of those bands that whatever genre they touch turns to gold.
Wow, thanks for posting this, i got this on cassette when it 1st came out. Mtv only showed a Xymox video once or twice like at 3 in the morning! This was a unique song for them in that Ronny Moorings let the gorgeous Anke Wolbert (their bassist) sing this song! A awesome song for them, it could still be a hit today 17 years later! Dank U Well, Anke, Ik Houd van U !
you´re all welcome .. many of you were not born still in our 80 decade but you could keep that will with you and take him to the future.. just as me keeps the adventure and the awesome stuff from the sixties that I didn´t live for having only been born in 1970.
@carterharrington I have never heard a better way of explaining this. I was also born Post - 80's, and yet have this same feeling for the music. Thank you.
When I hear a climatic song like this, I just ease back in my chair and soak up the beauty of the audio moving me. Pure dead brilliant, they don't make music anymore. I hope on my way to Heaven, songs like this are the soundtrack to my path.
In 1984, my sophomore year of high school, I ended up living in England for 2 months. Best 2 months of my life. While there I learned about Xymox, the Cure, saw the Smiths, partied w/ OMD ... a lifetime during a summer. Amazing.
@carterharrington That s so totally true. I saw them summer 1990 in Houston. I was born in 71 and i love the 80s music scene. For me now, it is innocence lost...My heroes becoming old men...
@carterharrington wow, I was born in the 80's but that's exactly how I also feel. You've totally captured the very thing that makes people either love or hate 80's music. It's innocent rawness is the thing that lures and taunts, and also the very thing that disgusts and raises the hair of people who can't stand it.
Clan of Xymox my favourite band. The best albuns: Clan of Xymox, Medusa and now Darkest Hour. But surerly there are good music in other albums like this one. Beauty Anke♥♥♥♥
E allora dico... datevi fuoco tutti. Questa canzone è un capolavoro. MASTERPIECE
Thank you for posting this. I've been wondering for years how a (Clan of) Xymox video would look. Twist of Shadows was the first of their albums that I bought. It has a different feel than their other work but I LOVE this song.
@carterharrington That's the feeling we all share. A lot of 90's born people feel nostalgia for a time they never lived. Also a lot of 80's songs can be called 'the soundtrack' of some episodes of my childhood. They bring me sightings and feelings of the house I grew in.
Back when music was music (and Ashley Simpson wasn't suffering from acid reflux!)...an album called Twist Of Shadows would be born. A collection that would define Beautiful...Imagination still stirs up emotions in me, and takes the shadows away.
Anke looks great ... great read ... the best time Clan of Xymox, alternative-electro pop is ok, Gothic is nonsense.. Pozdrawiam z Polski. Greetings from Poland.:)
I was born in 84, so I didn't really get to experience the 80s. But I can agree that music has went completely downhill since I would say about mid to late 90s. It's all about the Biebers the Mileys these days. With only a handful of artists that are remotely promising. That said, thanks for posting this video. It really reminds me of happy times.
@oramikleepunk Their siound was already very dark on their debute and on their medusa album. Twist of Shadws was a Synthpop experiment gone well. Phoenix was an eurohouse experiment gone very wrong...
@parkingtech True Like many goth stuff, it's a bit shortend to satisfy the demand of MTV of keep video's under 4 minutes. Wich also means the sound has to be a bit re-enineerd. The push have to come a bit earlier.... It's indeed a less deep song then the original on the album (your missing the great end that says where this song is actually about) but I 'm afraid that are the consequenses of bein a commercial band. And xymox was commercial at '89. ;-)
@paulocastro1970 I was born a 90's kid. and I think this generation (2000s) is so completely out of touch. There was something so ingenious and truthful, almost pure about the 80's music (well the good stuff obviously) and something almost like a childish innocence to the sounds, but totally manifest in the adult world. I don't know how to explain it, but its nostalgia for a time i never lived
what was the reason then didn't include this video on their official DVD...?? I can't really understand that... I really like Twist Of Shadows album...
I hate that this song was not more popular. It's a great song atypical of Clan of Xymox/Xymox period.
That atmosphere is entrancing. I recently discovered them a few days ago.
Just beautiful. I got to see them Live in Austin. One of the best shows ever.
This has to be the BEST and Severely Underrated Band I've ever heard!
Someone sometime COMPLETELY messed up what music is and we now have the modern day "Music"
Here in Peru, we love Clan of Xymox. They have been twice in Lima, Peru. Greetings from far away in South America.

Piosenka mojej młodości,tyle wspaniałych wspomnień wiąże się właśnie z nią.Bravo.

brings back great memories TWIST OF SHADOWS is one of the ebst albyms ever.

I fully appreciate everything that Clan Of Xymox and formally Xymox have done since they came about. They are wonderful!!!!
Ahhh,... The good old Xymox with Anke on vocals. Pure and never dated.
xsx
Something so magical about this album. "Imagination" and "Evelyn" are my favorites and absolute masterpieces as far as I am concerned.
When I hear a climatic song like this, I just ease back in my chair and soak up the beauty of the audio moving me. Pure dead brilliant, they don't make music anymore. I hope on my way to Heaven, songs like this are the soundtrack to my path.

One of the few albums you can let play all night and not skip anything.
I'm so glad I discovered this song. Soaring, inspired... beautiful. This is what electronic music is all about.
@carterharrington That s so totally true. I saw them summer 1990 in Houston. I was born in 71 and i love the 80s music scene. For me now, it is innocence lost...My heroes becoming old men...
It never gets old................love it

Clan of Xymox my favourite band. The best albuns: Clan of Xymox, Medusa and now Darkest Hour. But surerly there are good music in other albums like this one. Beauty Anke♥♥♥♥
Imagination keeps the shadows away!!! Too long have searched for this song and too long have i done the same.
I loved dancing to this song!
E allora dico... datevi fuoco tutti. Questa canzone è un capolavoro.
MASTERPIECE
imagination keeps the shadows away
me too! My first love, college, it was magical. I love xymox of old!
Best song on the album along with "Evelyn" ....pure magic!!
One of the best albums ever

I feel sorry, truly sorry for anyone that missed that 80's. I even know teenagers that wished they were born earlier!
Back when music was music (and Ashley Simpson wasn't suffering from acid reflux!)...an album called Twist Of Shadows would be born. A collection that would define Beautiful...Imagination still stirs up emotions in me, and takes the shadows away.
Awesome... Surfing on TH-cam is like opening doors that lead one after the another to so many completely forgotten pearls just like this one :o)
another one like me who gets it. I remember a bit of the very late 80s. Jan of 87 was my birth era.
Anke looks great ... great read ... the best time Clan of Xymox, alternative-electro pop is ok, Gothic is nonsense..
Pozdrawiam z Polski.
Greetings from Poland.:)
One of their very best.
I was fully unaware that kids could enjoy this. Thanks for making that clear to me!
Twist of Shadows is one the greatest darkwave album ever made, hands down.
Love this song!!! Xymox
This song is so amazing how could anyone dislike this ?
best times of my life!!!!!
Wow I hadn't seen this before. I loved this song for so long and their newer stuff as well but I wonder what ever happened to her?
Imagination takes the shadows away.
@oramikleepunk
Their siound was already very dark on their debute and on their medusa album.
Twist of Shadws was a Synthpop experiment gone well.
Phoenix was an eurohouse experiment gone very wrong...
Gran Banda
this song, really like me, very 80s, but very dark, clan of xymox is great!!!
THE BEST OF THE 80's
Anka is precious... my favorite lineup.
Proof that women can still look good with short hair.
so beautiful song!!, i have the cd, and i found the video, the old and good XYMOX, with ANKA WOLBERTH, singing, beautiful girl!!
@parkingtech
True

This was a VERY popular video on MTV that often aired after midnight...
Beautiful, Absolutly Beautiful
@noahmowsen2 isn't she?? Her ethereal vocals match her ethereal looks...Anka and Pieter were the heart and soul of Xymox.
...I'm still living in my imagination...:)
Man, takes me back to some fun times ;)
This song to me is like a Band-Aid on a wound that will heal with good times and care
@paulocastro1970 I was born a 90's kid.
