Hetep! I'm an interdisciplinary artist and independent curator who lives in Austin with close connections to the Black Studies and art departments. I'm extremely surprised and upset that Black artists in the community were left out of this talk and "landmark" acquisition. I'm literally on campus at least once a month (now that I no longer work at UT) and never knew that Simone Leigh has one of her pieces on UT campus. Of course, it's in a location that the public/communities folks can't access.
I admire Simone Leigh and have mad luv for her work. It's a shame Austin's Black artists and community were left out of this talk and milestone. Just sayin...
