As someone with COPD and 3 other lung diseases, this was a powerful message and one everyone needs to hear right across the world .Otherwise we battle on every day and no-one really understands how chronic disease affects your life continuously. How many other people need help and they are undiagnosedand need help
. The message of how devastating COPD is needs to reach every doctor because I Never smoked ! Thank you for your dedicated work 🙏

    Very good lecture thank you,
I have been diagnosed with emphysema
After listening to this I figure there is no possible way I could have avoided emphysema being a painter a lot of my working life,
My father was a painter his station wagon was our family car and work vehicle which smelt of paint fumes and no doubt the drop sheets were contaminated with lead based paint dust and asbestos
I've worked in the cotton industry exposed to all sorts of chemicals insecticide, herbicides, defoliant and fertilisers and Dust
I've worked in the car detailing industry exposed to solvents and acid fumes
I now understand we are not safe in our own homes
Smoke from cooking, airborne chemicals from aerosols such as air freshener, deodorant, perfume, fumes from cleaning products such as bleach and polishes.
I can't see how a cigarette would hurt after being exposed to all that

I was always told that if you give up smoking your lungs repair, it seems they dont, you're still in trouble years after giving up.

Dr. Wright - you are so right. I've heard for years that COPD is the third leading cause of death and it seems there is no research. I was diagnosed 20 years ago and have been plugging along, living a fairly active life until I had my 2nd Covid vaccine which caused my quality of life to drop off dramatically. I will contact my congressman and share you talk with my COPD group. Thank you for your research and laying out the facts.

They only want to TREAT the disease. Not CURE it. My meds are $475.00 a month and I cannot afford it. I need help and cannot get it. It's horrible.

Thank you for this talk. I may be one of those new sufferers of emphysema or COPD. Last week , I went to the ER with a gallbladder attack. A chest scan report said this -
Lungs - mild subpleural bilateral lower lobe dependent changes. Mild cystic changes of the upper lobes which may represent centrobular emphysema. No consolidation. No masses.
Do I have emphysema? I've never smoked in my life. How do I begin taking care of this and addressing this with my doctor? Going to my primary care doctor next week and hope I ask the right questions.

Excellent and thank you so very much indeed for helping all of us who have the disease and all those who have it passively! We all count.
I had a mother and relatives who all smoked INDOORS and older workmates who were always saying "Go on, have one , they're not harmful!" I knew no better so took one! I gave it up in 1998, but too late as I was diagnosed as having mild COPD. How I wish I'd never listened to those who implored me to smoke, and how I wish my Dr had sent me for a Spyrometry test.
I just wish my (different) Dr had helped me have the follow up test, but nobody bothers at the surgery here in the UK and it's almost unable to see a Dr. The first time I had an exasperation the Dr phoned me as a result and confirmed it - on the phone? "Keep away from us!" is their message 4 yrs later!
Bless you Jean, I just hope our Drs listen to you!😮

Do you get a weak feeling in your chest. I had Lyme disease for 5 years and i have have heart tests and have been told it's not my heart. So, lungs?... COPD? I get a weak feeling and tired, specifically in my chest. No pain or pressure, just an artificial feeling weakness.

Thank you for this amazing presentation about a medical condition close to my heart and that destroyed my life indirectly. I recently lost my mother from COPD and she was the 5th family member with it (3 of those also had lung cancer). COPD is horrific and misunderstood by medical professionls. The 3rd leading cause of death!!!! It needs more funding. Many in the future will get COPD given the environmental changes and problems in the world. It needs more research. After taking care of my precious mum during her later stage (severe emphysema) I am an advocate for the disease and will do everything in my power. Thank you doctor, you are incrfedible and my mum would have adored you...

I never had COPD until after COVID was around. I was never diagnosed with COVID but did take the Vaccines. Then diagnosed some time later with COPD. Coincidence or a result of? I don't know. Also, just tested for the Alpha 1 gene. We shall see.
