    Thanks for the tips on the 2goSystems Trifecta. have used it twice so far for Winter camping (1st time paired with my UGQ 0 degree quilt, it got down to 12 degrees here in CT and I was toasty warm) and 2nd time with a 30 degree mummy bag (it got down to 22 degrees that night, still toasty) and wanted a versatile piece of gear for my day pack in case anything goes south on a day hike. Looking forward to learning how to use it as a tarp when Spring comes.

    I use the rib pack as well. I pair it up with my Gossamer Gear G4, that way it lightens the weight in that. For long distances where I really want to go light, I think I'll leave the ribz at home. I'm trying to get a base under 10 lbs for those special long hikes. Thanks for the video and the useful information.

    • @RevHiker
      @RevHiker  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alex Banks thanks! My base is just under 10... it's nice to not have to carry so much

    Drew - great video! I've tried a lot of that stuff and agree with your choices.
    Re: down jacket - I got mine at Costco two years ago for $30 Canadian. In Canada they stock them in august-sept but they sell out fast. Mine is 675 fill power, 12oz. Its so warm I wear it most of the winter. Last fall I picked up an 8oz down vest at Costco for $23 Cdn.
    Costco down blankets are classic for making topquilts and underquilts - they stock those in early fall too. Usually run $20-30 Cdn.

      rheslip20 thanks, and I have heard of the awesome Costco jackets and blankets... unfortunately I don't have any even remotely close to me... 😔

    2 questions.
    1) The permithrin does not affect your skin?
    2) Does the down jacket run true to size?
    Thanks, love your videos.

    • @RevHiker
      @RevHiker  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      dartor100 for sizing, I would read their info, you may have to order something different. As for permethrin, you never spray it on yourself! Only on your clothes before a trip. You have to let it dry. Once it is dry, it won't affect your skin

    Does your Trifecta condensate when you sleep in it because of the reflectix?

    • @RevHiker
      @RevHiker  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      John Hill nope. I haven't ever had condensation inside a trifecta

  • @matt6433

    Hey RevHiker! I loved the video, really well made and informative!
    I have one question though:
    I was looking to cut some weight on my hydration system, which is just an old military thermos flask, very bulky and heavy. I saw those smart water bottles that seems lightweight and durable enough for my use, however I can't find em anywhere here in Europe.
    Do you (or some other people here) knows a website that sells those bottles in Europe, without paying $$$ shipment?
    Thank you very much.
    - Jacob

    • @RevHiker
      @RevHiker  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jacopo Mattedi hmmm I don't know. I would suggest grabbing some bottles and seeing what threads on to your Sawyer. That's why I use these, because the threads match

    Hehe your first video like this was the one that brought me here.
    Do you think the 2Go Bivvy would work for 45 degrees as an underquilt? I'm hiking this weekend and haven't pulled the trigger on a $300 one yet. I value your opinion my friend.

    • @RevHiker
      @RevHiker  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sinfonian Barelytone if you have it hung correctly then yes. Make sure it's not touching the small of you back or butt. You also need a blanket or something to cover you on top. At 50deg with my reflective tarp pitched to have doors, I was too hot for a while. If you have pants and a light jacket, you should be able to do 45

    • @sinfonianbarelytone9191
      @sinfonianbarelytone9191 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the suggestion. I went tried and true with my reflectix pad that finally failed me at temps in the upper 30s. Would have been good to try this. Another time.

    • @sinfonianbarelytone9191
      @sinfonianbarelytone9191 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      RevHiker maybe in another video you can show how you use the trifecta that way? Please?

    I discovered 2gosystem on your channel and have been using his gear ever since. The quality of his gear is on par with products double and in some cases triple the price. I recommend them to every outdoors person I know.

    Not sure on the windscreen reflective to sleep on, I think a Klymit and Exped are worth investing in....I cannot imagine how uncomfortable the reflective would be

    • @RevHiker
      @RevHiker  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Flanners _ there is plenty of gear that is worth investing in... but if you can't, and still want to go light, this will, and has, worked for me and many others. No doubt there are more comfortable options though haha

    Are there materials/fabrics that the bug spray doesn't do well with?

    • @RevHiker
      @RevHiker  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Clarence Lee to my knowledge, it won't damage any material. I've used it on lots of synthetics, nylons, cotton, and wool, and it's been fine
