Heat treating does two things to Chert. 1. It makes the Chert easier to knap. 2. It brings out attractive colors that may be in it. Chert is a lesser quality type of flint. True Flint is formed in chalk, whereas Chert forms in limestone. Native Americans discovered heat treating and used it wherever they found a chert source that would improve from it. Or heating the chert would bring out attractive colors. Hope this helps.
It looks like the cortex is limestone but the meat inside is mainly silica like chert. I mean the whole thing isnt coral is it? Guess it dont matter. Its good knapping material anyway. edited to add: the meat has polips, yup, thats coral.
Million souls has a variety of different really good looking things. Appreciate it. Take care
That's one heck of a bopper! A Bopperoni Witt Cheese 😂 beautiful stuff man. 😎🏹🤙
Is this coral good for newbie knapper? Very beautiful stone. 😮😊

Over-compensation with the bopper?
