How To Make A Yard Sign - Cleveland Indians Chief Wahoo

- In this video I made a Cleveland Indian chief wahoo for a friend. A piece of wood and 8x11 paper same concept can be applied to any fun project for you or the kids.
Quick step by step
1. Find what you want to make
2. Blow it up and print it
3. Cut out the shape
4. Tape it together
5. Trace the paper on the wood which will score the wood
6. Use a pencil to highlight the line scored into the wood
7. Use a jig saw to cut it out
8. Sand the edge
9. And paint away !

I do similar signs but I always router the edges to make it nicer to handle, great job by the way, I think you did a great job.

wow it looks AMAZING but it might of been a good idea to do an undercoat a few layers of paint and or a vanish so it can stay looking awesome like it does in this video. keep up the great work on your videos!

I actually know the dude the Chief Wahoo sign went to and his old Chief Wahoo was a bit run down. He finally has this new one and it looks a lot better.

DIY Creators I know what you mean it took me almost a year just to learn TH-cam editor cuz I use my cell phone for a camera but once I do get some software I'll have to start all over square one but for the most part the TH-cam editor serves its purpose for me get the job done you know maybe once I get more subscriptions I'll get some good editing software

wow looks incredible
A few questions. Glenn, if you did something like this again would you do the transfer of the image any differently? I just imagine it was a pain to do all that outlining with a pencil, trying not to break the tip as you are pressing hard enough to make the impression in the wood. I wonder if using a glass cutter would work better. Spray adhesive to hold paper in place and then just roll the glass cutter around to mark all your lines, then remove paper and you can then run a pencil in the grooves to define the spaces. I would think that priming the bare wood surface would be a good idea also to help the paint not get sucked in as much. Just a thought, I'd like to make one of these also of an old squadron logo.

Thank you. Just latex Paint and yes two coats of clear coat. Also suggest they clean it and add a layer every year.

Nice work! What program did you use to blow the logo up that big? I am assuming illustrator?
You don't need software to do this. When you print an image you van choose how many pages it has to cover in the printer settings dialog window.

Wow, so interesting fact it appears that you had uploaded this video back in February of 2016…Come to think of it that’s the same year the Chicago Cubs had played the Cleveland Indians in the 2016 MLB World Series, which happens to be about 9 months or so after you had posted this.
I just thought that this was an amazing coincidence and all… considering the fact that my beloved hometown Cubbies beat the Indians in game 7 back on 11.02.16.
Just so you know that I am not trying to be mean or attempting to gloat or anything. Simply because I heard you say at the intro of this video you were making this for a friend. So I won’t be to hard on you for making this “Indians” sign way back in 2016. Only because no one knew yet that the Cubs were even going to play, let alone beat the Cleveland Indians in the MLBWS.

How thick is the wood?
been trying to figure out the type of wood to use
Next time you want to make some blue paint darker, add the complementary colors instead of adding black paint.
Very likely your blue paint isn't 100% blue, so first figure if it has more red or yellow into it. By the looks of it, I'd say it already has a bit of red (trending towards purple more than towards cyan)
So when you add the 2 complementary colors (red and yellow) add a little less of red than yellow. You don't need a lot of it to make it darker.
That's how you darken paint my friend, not by adding black :) Black should be used for 100% black areas only.
Also, it's easier to paint colors from light to dark. In your case, white, red then dark blue.
Finally, since it's meant to last, don't use the cheapest paint. Buy artist grade (also named "professional", but not student!) paint quality: it's a little more expensive but it contains more pigments and will not fade after a few years, especially when exposed to UV light. To make it last longer outside apply a couple of coats of varnish, especially when using acrylic paint (but also with oil based paints). Just pick a UV resistant varnish.

why not first paint it red and white and add the lines as the last step? Would save a lot of time..
