They want you to lease because that's where the money is. Even assuming a wheel replacement, you buy it in like 16 months if it's $1,200 (note they fire-saled the E500s last month for like half that). If they release a new model every year though like Apple, then it might make sense for those that want the latest & greatest (buy they are paying way more).
@@ricochet48 the insurance makes a world of difference. When leasing it's easier for the consumer to get repairs done IMO. And since it's geared towards the stylish consumer, most would want a different scooter after 1 year. Purchasing means that wouldn't be possible. If you decide to rent, it allows you to swap for a different color, or a new model, when available.
@@thetds101 I understand the concept, but recognize that people pay a huge premium for it (which is why Unagi pushes it and does not care much about those that buy outright). How many people want to upgrade a scooter every year... this isn't an iPhone (but it's marketed to those that are moronic enough to 'upgrade' to a new iPhone every year). You can buy for $1,200, spend $50 in new tires and sell in a year for half that and still be $240 ahead than if you spent $890 to own for a year through the rental program.
The only thing I find really elegant about the design is the tapered stem that is wider where it needs to be. That's very nice, albeit subtle. The rest to me looks very humdrum and not particularly eye-catching.
A personal revelation on this channel: I have been very impressed at the analytical and consistently applied approach to comparisons on this channel. I wondered about this until I saw that Paul has a PhD in Physics - that explains everything!
I really wanted to get the voyager but living in NYC, it’s practically impossible. With the classic, I literally felt every bump in the pavement, EVERY SINGLE BUMP. I’ve had to get off and walk on certain stretches of road because the vibrations were so severe. I’m shocked they didn’t add shocks to this model because its desperately needed. Aesthetically, this is by far one of the best looking scooters ever and the durability is mind blowing. I could not possibly recommend this scooter for people who live in cities with rough roads.
If you're riding around a campus or similar short distance journey ON SMOOTH SURFACES, it could be a decent choice. But, I don't think it's really an appealing option for most people looking for a commuter scooter on city streets / in the bike lane. Not unless you want to experience a horribly uncomfortable ride. A lot to like concerning everything you mentioned: Portability, weight, power for it's size, simple design, etc. But, it really does have a very limited potential market. In fact, I think some people who buy a UNAGI (in error, not fully understanding what it's designed for) will seek to upgrade soon after. Hopefully they don't consider the harsh ride quality (due to the tires) to be a common experience and just give up on scooter riding altogether. I appreciate all options in the market, and I think that resources like ESG can help niche market items, like the UNAGI, find the correct buyer. As always, an informative review.
Thanks Paul! They are pretty but slow. I strongly prefer the E-Twow GT, Mosquito or Inokim Light 2 for ultra portables. The lack of folding handlebars also sucks when you need that ultra compact form factor.
@@AX5Terminator I prefer the Mosquito. 25MPH, sub-30lbs, 20+ miles range, ultra small footprint when folded. For someone who has more than a few miles to travel it is a great ultra portable. I have many thousands of miles on E-Wow Boosters and can attest to their performance and durability. I have also had many hyper, dual-motor scooters and those are a totally different use case.
The Model One Voyager expands our previous award-winning model's range and acceleration while staying ultra-lightweight and portable. Thanks for the thoughtful review ESG!
You need to get some suspension on your scooters. Right outside your store in NYC you see how terrible the roads are, there is no way you say your scooters can ride on anything like that or anywhere else in Manhattan. You have a nice design and unique look but I wouldn't buy that scooter even though you offered it to me for $450 when I wanted to return the rental. And the retail price of $1K to have such a dreadful ride when there are other scooters with way better ride quality for the same price and more range is unjustifiable. Also need to make the stem more sturdy. It felt like it would break eventually. What happened to your Model 11????
We understand that preferences can vary when it comes to ride quality and suspension. Food for thought- for Unagi. #1) Please make it or update firmware/ software so we can have a cruise control mode (maybe double- tapping the throttle to engage cruise control..). #2) Make a more rigid kick stand (seems kind of weak at the pivot point). #3) Make a better charger port cover.. lol It's kind of hard to uncover at times (I have no nails long enough to help pry the cover out to charge it). #4) Make an Unagi-branded cell phone mount (I've bought 3 now from Amazon, and all of them are hard to install and don't fit good- the mount gets in the way of the throttle/ brake leavers due to the way the scooter's handle bars are shaped and not being perfectly round) #5) Make an Unagi- branded scooter bag/ satchel to fit on the scooter's stem, but enough to carry a phone and/or charger for on the go charging. #6) Be nice if there was a plug-in USB adapter module that can be tied into the power connector on the handle bars so we can charge our cell phones from- especially now with there being an app for the scooter. #7) Please update firmware/ software so there is an option to turn kick-to- start on or off. #8) And... dreaming here... make it to where we can unlock unlimited top speed (not just the 20MPH). That's just my ideas. Great scooter though!!
At similar weight (29lbs) and price ($1,000), the e-TWOW GT SE goes faster, farther, with dual suspension, app connectivity, and folding handlebars for greater portability. It’s just missing the ultra-sleek look.
I rented this for about 4 months on NYC streets ans just like someone else said I felt every single possible bump in the road. Just the dividing cracks between concrete tiles on side walks I felt. Seriously this could not have been made for a daily commuter. This is strictly for a college campus or maybe a large factory campus. THAT'S IT. I went and bought a new Ninebot G2 max with suspension and what a world of difference. Triple the range, faster top speed, more torque and acceleration than the Unagi while being just single motored. And best part I ride on NYC streets and have no knee, ankle and neck pain. When you ride them one after the other the difference stands out even more drastic. I love the lightweight of the Unagi but the trade off with ride comfort with the heavier G2 Max is MORE than worth it.

Design and weight doesn’t overcome personal performance preferences, miles/speed/suspension. Maybe unagi could make a 40-45 lb performance model. Thanks paul, love the new look
not true. Unagi was supposed to be a commuter, city model. why f. performance? I want to go through cities, catching buses, never knowing how much distance I'm gonna need. which means I need a backup battery. but there is no f. backup battery with f. Unagi. no. f. Unagi every few years when your battery dies on you. read my lips Unagi: it will never happen...except if an inventor, in his garage, comes up with carbon fiber, or even carbon fiber and graphen compound and the f. replaceable battery. such inventor will become the new elon musk of f. scooters. everybody in the world will buy such scooter, billions of people would buy such scooter. economy of scale
@@Burevestnik9M730 performance? Over bridges and uphill, both are horrible on lesser powered escooter. Performance doesn’t necessarily mean really fast speeds, i simply want 20mph on level ground or uphill, not sub-10mph. As batteries goes, range and speed are compromises we make. I commute on my scooter, I don’t want to carry a battery dead scooter. Nor do i want “carpal tunnel” feet from road vibrations. Anything else you have a problem with in “my” opinions?
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide Nice. I’m looking forward to them. I have the Solar E1 and am underwhelmed. But not surprised. I got it for an easy to carry scooter to take camping and eventually for my kids to zip around on. It works well for that. Since I’m 6’3” and 270 lbs I max it out and it won’t take hills with just 500 watt motor. I’m looking to get a dual motor scooter that will have enough power to move me but is also reasonably light and small enough to take camping. Solar has a couple possible contenders but I haven’t found the “perfect” one yet.
I've never ridden an Unagi. Even though it looks SUPER cool, I still think a better lightweight option could be the OKAI. My older OKAI that got stolen climbed up hills better than my current Apollo Air, plus had a super dope look. My biggest concern with the Unagi would be ride quality especially because of those tires. If with a scooter like the OKAI that does have some sort of suspension the ride quality was a bit on the tougher side, I could not imagine ridding an UNAGI. There's always going to be trade offs with the scooters we end up buying, but after testing the ride quality of the Apollo Air, it's tough to go back to something so stiff and bumpy like the OKAI and how I imagine the Unagi feels based on those tires. Unagi and OKAI, in my opinion have it all to make DOPE looking scooters like the Apollo Pro, but at a more affordable price, covering the basics of a daily commuter style scooter. I wish the Apollo Pro design eventually came to more affordable scooters like the Apollo Air... which is starting to look a bit outdated. Great video as always, Paul and team! Thanks, ESG.
Dam all these upgrades and it still only goes 12 miles on a charge? I actually had one of the first ones when they came out but it didnt go far enough on a charge. And still dosent imo
One and only reason I don't buy it is because it has only electric brake. Should implement atleast one drum brake like E-twow scooter. One of the reasons I got E-twow instead of this one. Don't trust Unagi braking.
So many choices and not enough of true specs ….. I just want an electric scooter for a large guy (I’m 6’4 270) , with a wish of o scooter for road and off road with 30+ speed and a lot of miles ….
It’s not really similar demographics of riders the WW pro and Unagi voyager. Unagi riders love the power and portability of such as light scooter. -Vosk
It is too feminine for me. Not just because of the small wheels but also the small wheelbase and deck, no suspension. Just not for me. Seems like a high quality teenager's scooter. Cheers !

Love my new voyager scooter ❤
We love ours also! Thanks for stopping by. -Vosk
Every time I see a new ESG video pop up I keep hoping it’s one of the new Solar scooters. I really want to see your FF Lite review.
We will be having many solar review this year! Thanks for stopping by. -Vosk
Thanks for watching our review! Stay Safe. -Vosk
How was your scooter stolen? Was it locked up?
anyone else looking at the Niu air instead? Lighter weight - 25 lbs, carbon fiber, $400 less than unagi voyager, and immediately available for sale.
Both excellent options!
I have the unagi e350 reach 25 mph I don’t know how it pretty fast get me to the gym back and forth save me gas
Dam all these upgrades and it still only goes 12 miles on a charge? I actually had one of the first ones when they came out but it didnt go far enough on a charge. And still dosent imo
It’s a last mile commuter for most ppl! -Vosk
I weight about 285lbs would I be able to ride this
It will function but it’s exceeding the recommended weight limit.
Howmuch longer until the review of the roadrunner 5+ ???
That review was published already! Here is the link th-cam.com/video/L-o3m6jmPWY/w-d-xo.html
One and only reason I don't buy it is because it has only electric brake. Should implement atleast one drum brake like E-twow scooter. One of the reasons I got E-twow instead of this one. Don't trust Unagi braking.
Noted! Thanks for sharing. -Vosk
Appsumo theme song lol
unagi still havent found a way to fold the handlebars in 😂
They are definitely innovating so hopefully there will be changes in the future!
They only charge me $50 and I just received it before days later
No, $300 security deposit
We still want that promise 11😢
I think the 11 may be gone forever, but stay tuned. We’re going to interview Unagi soon and maybe they’ll tell us what’s next! -Paul
I want this scooter so bad but it's a huge issue that it's only for rent and not sale. Renting is a waste of money!
They do have it for sale at most times!
This name instantly made me think about Ross 😅
So many choices and not enough of true specs ….. I just want an electric scooter for a large guy (I’m 6’4 270) , with a wish of o scooter for road and off road with 30+ speed and a lot of miles ….
Check out our website! Electric-scooter.guide and check comparison chart
ahh yes you get more range in dual motor mode wtf? that got to be a mistake. if that is true then why would you ever use single motor mode?
Single motor puts a bigger strain on the scooter then using both engines.
E500 0-15mph is 4.4s whats the voyager 0-15mph

@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide The stats is not listed for the voyager only the E500
Wide Wheel Pro > Model 1 Voyager
It’s not really similar demographics of riders the WW pro and Unagi voyager. Unagi riders love the power and portability of such as light scooter. -Vosk
No $300 security deposit
Weird, I didn't have to do a deposit when I rented. -Paul
only dual motor under $1k.
splach twin am i a joke to you??!?!?1
We have not tested that one yet!
💯‼️
unajee
👀
It is too feminine for me. Not just because of the small wheels but also the small wheelbase and deck, no suspension. Just not for me. Seems like a high quality teenager's scooter. Cheers !
Thanks for your feedback!
They should start selling them especially in places like Costco
Best Buy sells them. -Paul
Costco sells the original on their website only
@@larryc1616 not any longer though
I’ll still take the Ninebot Max due to the range
It’s dated but still a excellent scooter! -Vosk
