  • When we think of the Maldives, we inevitably conjure images of its golden sands, crystal-clear waters, or the beautiful sounds of peace and harmony that envelop the place. However, we have a secret to share with you: its true treasure lies not on the surface but hidden beneath the sea.
Join us and discover one of the most special sustainability projects in the RIU Hotels & Resorts' biodiversity support lineup: the Blue Reef Reforest program.
What is the Blue Reef Reforest Project?
Nestled amidst the vastness of the Indian Ocean, the Maldives is a collection of islands grouped into atolls, meaning they are part of a coral reef. This is also the case for the islands of Maafushi and Kedhigandu, in the Dhaalu Atoll, home to the Riu Atoll and Riu Palace Maldives hotels.
Did you know that in the vicinity of Kedhigandu Island, there exists a coral reef spanning an area of 20,000 square meters? This coral structure faces various environmental and human-induced impacts that are gradually damaging the coral coverage. This is why the Blue Reef Reforest program's primary goal is to restore the coral reefs in the area.
