      Hi, I'm trying to decide between these, the HD 6XX and the HD 560S
      Do you know how they compare in games? Which has the best soundstage and positional audio?

    I have these and DT990 @ 250 and the HE4XX and SHP9500 - Basically the YT recommended set.
    I use DT990 for home use on my desktop for gaming and listening to music. The 58x on my iphone when I am out.
    I tried using them for gaming, and it was nice, but when switching back to the DTs I was blown away like when I heard them the first time. I guess I prefer V shape over flat : )
    I appreciate your take on snakeoil topics, thanks for the vids and for being reasonable : )

      Is there a noticeable difference with the 58x on your amp vs your iphone? I did some research and the apple dongle (US version) should be able to drive these to 104 db at max, but I haven’t tried it. My dt 770 pro 80 ohm requires 60-65% volume to listen to comfortably if that helps at all (Max volume is way too loud)

    9:20 Jeez, I almost spit my tea out.
    On a serious note, thanks for making great content in both text and video formats, very educational and entertaining! I've been monitoring my local marketplaces for a used pair of HD600/6xx/58x a couple months go, but after doing my research I ultimately decided to go for a more budget option in the form of SHP9500 mostIy because I don't have a DAC/AMP setup yet. I'm pretty satisfied with SHP9500s atm coming from years of using Sennheiser HD215 II and Porta Pros, yet I'm still eyeing for an iFi Zen v2 + HD600 combo as a potential personal end-game.

      Lmao I was wondering how that one would go down because I didn't really lol when I was making it. It's funny because some of the stuff I think is hilarious can go either way as far as people who think it's equally as funny vs. those who don't comment on it. And sometimes it's the stuff that I just do and don't react to that others really love. 😂
      9500 is great! Zen V2/600 would be awesome as well down the road. Check this series out as it should help: homestudiobasics.com/ifi-zen-vs-zen-v2-upgraded/

      @@HomeStudioBasics Haha, I get what you mean :) I personally enjoy "reference style" humor, the one that makes you go like DiCaprio in that Rick Dalton pointing at the screen meme, lol, give an audible chuckle or spit out your drink because of the sheer unexpectedness of it. I appreciate that kind of nods to movies and other media you use in your content.
      I actually picked up a used pair of HD600s recently for a reasonable price and waiting for Zen DAC to be delivered at the time of writing this. Managed to find a used v1 with a PS4 update compatible serial and an iPower for the price of new one. I know that general consensus is that Zen DAC is fine with 5V via USB 3.0, but I figured that I'd benefit from cleaner power source, since I have not so modern PC and it's a more efficient way for running Zen, I believe, since it provides 12.5W of power vs 4.5W via USB3.0. Especially while using my phone as a source via OTG cable without draining the battery.

    the "graininess of the hd58x comes from a peak somewhere between 4khz and 5.5khz. if you lower it by 4-5 db with eq you can make the headphone more tolerable if this peak annoys you.

  • @wesleyleigh4063
    @wesleyleigh4063 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    The problem I found was the dip in the highs at 4.5k and 5.6k. After around 3-4 weeks of use I just found everything sounded slightly rolled off, or rather just lacking in that region. The only other headphone in this price range that doesn't have this problem is the Hifiman He400SE, so i'd personally recommend them - I swapped to them right after the 58X and felt they were superior

I also have the 4XX which sound better with the Zen stack, and Grado SR80e and I don't think any of them are endgame for me, I will be taking a deeper plunge say under $500 soon enough, any recommendations? Great review, I am over 55 so my ears are not as great as your's I am guessing, and I only started on headphones when I was about 45, but I have had the 580, 600 & 650 but sold them all as they really needed good amps to drive them (and I am to lazy for all that now and prefer straight plug in to phone, laptop or a small DAP). I have then had the 660s 560s and 58x, I only kept the 58x, but kind of miss the 660s. The soundstage on the 560s is great as you say, but I find it pretty good on the 58x which I find a bit more detailed sounding than the 560s (but as per above my ears may be a bit shot though due to age etc.). I am guessing the 6xx needs a fair bit of power to drive it like the 600 (really liked this, very detailed, with a good amp, but a bit closed in feeling for me) & 650. The only thing that may get me back into amps is that I saw Drop is doing a HD 800 (8x or something) version, now I would love to hear that one, or second best a review by you :)

    • @HomeStudioBasics
      @HomeStudioBasics  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey man! Yeah the 6XX even at double the impedance still isn't terribly hard to drive which is what I've always loved about 600 series headphones. It's funny you mention SS on the 58X because it can and will give you more out of your head moments than you'd expect. For instance, yesterday I was just watching a skate video and it honestly felt like something was going on in my apartment lol. I had to double check it. Then it happened again with something totally separate just a few minutes later. Def a solid choice for gamers imo.

      I have all HD5 and HD6 line also the 58x and 6Xx.
      First off all HD6 line is technically better than 58x and 560s .
      58X has closer signature to hd6 line but lose on most parts but for price are nice. HD560s arw the most different of all they are not warm smooth like HD6 line and soundstage its not nice small in your head like HD6 line that vocals are like singer is in front of u, on 560s its more on distance on open stage.
      Between 600 650 660s its all about taste honestly.... 600 are the most neutral most in your face, 650 are the smooth king the most forgiving relaxing that old recordings spund great. At the end my personal Favorite the HD660s that has something from them all they have amazing detail but keep some smoothness , they are for sure the faster tighter of them all , also the bass is like HD600 tight and not so warm like 650 also it goes lower a bit , But the Biggest 660s Advance from them all by FAR is the imaging and sepperation , I have Sundara 2020 version and trust me 660s imaging is a better .
      So at the end it depends by what u want . Some prefer 600 tight neutral sound some 650 warm slower forgiving sound and Some 660s that has characteristics from both of them and way bettwr imaging.
      But make no mistake if u like 650 smoothness ans want upgrade on that 660s is not better , also if u need 600 neutrality also 660s is not better on that. HD660s is great on everything but not perfect on something , its like u have 1 headphone to do everything ok.

      @@Tripokaridos22 Z(Zeos) Review and many other say that 58X = (90% of HD660s) if you remove the 58X's padding covering the driver. I also tried removing the outer padding of 58X and the sound stage widen a lot. Also the instrument separation & overall sound improved a lot. Gaming community acknowledged this and this small MOD in 58X helps a lot. Did you try the MOD and compare it with HD660s sound ? I don't own HD660S, so I can't confirm.

    Honestly these headphones are trash without the proper mod. You need to remove both inner and outer foams and put a thinner material on the inner, I used a circle cut out of black legging, leave the outer area open. Then they become amazing, the detail comes through, bass muddyness cleans up, the sub bass becomes distinguishable, midrange sounds even better and treble sparkles up a bit, the sound stage opens up a bit too. I tried so many times with the foams on and off and there's definitely a real difference, if you leave the foams on this headphone its way too muddled by the warmth and the only thing u hear clearly is the mids and that's why the vocals sound too forward. When you do the simple mod it's becomes like a super saiyan version of itself, trust. They became my favorite headphone under the $250 range after this.
