Despite all this set's flaws, and its high price, I STILL regard this set as one of the only TIE models I want to get a full squadron of.
Just picked up a used dorito tie from my nearest Bricks & Minifigs for 45 dollars, and for 45 dollars, it's an awesome display piece! Once I find some room for it, it'll absolutely dominate whatever shelf it gets.
I got it so cheap because it didn't have the knight of ren or Fin, but I'm not much of a minifig collector, so it was definitely worth it. It's a cool enough ship for that much of a discount.
And yes, I agree. I would love to have a swarm of these some day

I kind of like the design and the fact they’ve gone beyond the traditional. It’s more like a tie interceptor than a tie fighter. Sure that’ll get a heavy discount in Jan

That printing on the top of the cockpit I believe has been around since at least 2002. Love that transparent red cockpit piece. I don't really like the shape of the wings, how many Tie Variants do we need? New wedge is nice looking. $80 is too much, especially for only one exclusive Minifig. I believe the sword the Knight of Ren has was called a Scimitar in the Lego Lotr Video Game.
First appearance of that print was the 2001 Tie Fighter in dark grey 🙂

Weight wise that wouldn't matter if it was in space technically. I wouldn't think (physics wise) tie would have much of a chance of flying in a atmosphere.

Ryan - you have a mistake in the build. The "trigger" plates that fire the spring-loaded missiles should be studs-out.

nice vid, however I think you're being too nice at LEGO for pricing it at 80$. In addition to this, some of the problems you mentioned seemed to me like way too much of a 1st world problem that noone would care about in my opinion (like the fact Finn is the same). Btw, any idea whether more SW III sets will come in 2020?

Maybe that’s an engine tilt feature for take off? Place the pilot in and you’re off! Then orient the engines for forward flight? Again just a long stretch guess
I def understand what you mean with the odd weight distribution. I can tell that picking it up and holding it for a solid three minutes would start to hurt your wrist a little if you hold it with one hand.
The sword on the knight of Ren is definitley a Uruk sword from lord of the rings.

My major issue with this set (that nobody seems to realise or care about) is the fact it NEEDS the stand to look proper. I believe a tie fighter shouldn’t need to have a stand. They’re meant to stand up and you can’t do it without it tipping forward and looking odd. It bugs me a lot

I think I mentioned it before but in 04 you could get a 4 pack of Tie Fighters for 70$, or about 18$ a Tie Fighter, and they're legitimate, well build basically full Ties. 20$ is what the juniorized Tie's cost in 2020.
Inflation or no the increase in complexity, piece count, and price is getting ridiculous even if the sets are 'technically' superior. I don't know if the value is there for a child buying a set or getting a gift to get one 80$ tie for Christmas. I know that when I was 10 and got a 4 pack of cool Ties, I was way more excited than if I got just one.

How is it that we have had multiple Tie Fighters and ST sets and yet no OT Tie Bomber. Who wants to think that LEGO will make a Tie Bomber but based on the ST?
While I think this TIE is a cool-looking design, I agree the long-standing lack of a TIE Bomber is painful. I finally got over it when I just got the instructions for Jerac's TIE Bomber MOC and built that. That model is beautiful! Essentially a UCS TIE Bomber at perfect minifig scale, couldn't love it more!

@@luisemoralesfalcon4716 It was so worth it! Will set you back 2/3rds of what you could get a UCS Y-Wing set for; but the perfect size, the shape, and the details are second to none. Not to mention the weight, the finished model is HEAVY for its size, although it would be for ~1500 pieces packed in a relatively small package.

Been subscribed to him for like 2-3 years. And I finally just understood his intro. “Hey what’s up studs” I always assumed he meant “Studs” like an Attractive man. Which I thought was weird. Then I remembered that the circular LEGO piece is called a stud, now I feel stupid.

It’s a bit naive to be on the internet now that the movies out and expect not to see spoilers.
I bought this set recently and I have experienced little to no problem with the weighting 'issue'.
I have to buy it at full price though. Lego doesn't go on sale here. It also costs more here than it does in the US in general so at best it'll be €80. But I love the design too much not to have it, so I don't have much of a choice. I usually just buy Lego online anyway, we don't exactly have Walmart here.
I hate the bottom of the cockpits shaping, the Doritos look great, the windshield looks great, and I love the thrusters in the back

This is the only set I need for this first 2020 wave of Lego star Wars. And I want it for the Knight Of Ren(I have the others three) and the tie fighter looks kinda ok but I DO NOT wanna pay $80 for just this.. just 3 figs and this? Yikes Expensive! It keeps holding me back from purchasing 😅

Just got this for 20% off at £52. Its original price was way too high but I’m glad to have it at the price it should be.
I was excited for it initially but now it looks SUPER plain. Probably would of preferred the TIE Whisperer even if it would have just another Kylo

Could be that Star Wars in general is not popular anymore. Star Wars toys don’t sell, so they might have to raise the average sale price to compensate.
