As for Puma, at the time, it was very expensive and I am no fan of any of it's designs.
I think that the Twix chocolate advert shown on British TV fairly recently was loosely based on this brotherly rivalry. Two brothers, two factories making the same product but with slightly different method and then them fighting at the end.
