- I hope you liked my reactions to Feel My Rhythm, Be Natural, and Birthday by Red Velvet!! I absolutely loved all of these songs and music videos! Red Velvet is so talented, and I cannot wait to react and listen to more of their songs 😊

“Be Natural” is actually a cover of SM’s 1st generation girl group S.E.S which a senior group to Red Velvet. It was kind of like honoring S.E.S in a way and S.E.S also has amazing vocals too. I hope you also check out 1st generation idols too.
Be Natural was really really early on, there are only two MVs that only have the older four members (the other MV/ song is called 'Happiness'), before their maknae was finally deemed old enough to join the group (they already knew they were going to be a five-member group, they just had to wait for Yeri for a bit). Yeri turned sixteen years old just before filming the MV for their song 'Ice Cream Cake' and she IMMEDIATELY caught all sorts of hell from the internet trolls. Imagine for a second; full-grown ADULTS pick on a sixteen-year-old kid for debuting with an already-established group (they were still a rookie group, it was only like 8 or 9 months after 'Happiness' that Yeri joined them).
BUT group leader Irene shut all the haters up really well. As far as Irene was concerned, all the content the group released before Yeri was able to join them was considered 'pre-debut' material. Now with Yeri, the group is complete as Five members, as the plan had ALWAYS been. NOW, Ice Cream Cake is considered by Irene to be the group's actual Debut song.
She put her foot down HARD and she protected her maknae like an angry mama bear! Gotta love a lady who can be assertive when the situation calls for it.

You have to remember that Yeri was only 12 when she moved into the Red Velvet dorm with Irene, who was already 20.
Those stories of Irene waking up early to make Yeri's lunch and iron her uniform before sending her off to school are all very real.
When Irene said "I raised Yeri," she wasn't exaggerating.
@@riffgroove Yes, I am fully aware of that, I just did not realize that Yeri was living with Irene all the way from THE VERY BEGINNING of her training. I knew they were close and why, I just did not know exactly how long that had been. Yeri is lucky, she had two Moms!

But not quite from the very beginning. She was a trainee for about a year at SM before she moved into the Red Velvet dorm.
At the time, Irene and Seulgi were the only ones there.
Yeri was always rumored to have been one of Lee Soo Man's favorite trainees.
I remember Wendy telling the story of being the last one to move into the RV dorm and her telling her manager, "Are you sure these are the girls I'm supposed to be in a group with?"
Wendy didn't think she was pretty enough. 🤷♂️
11:28 THIS reaction i looove it! Haha. (Be careful tho, don't fall off) Another song on the Birthday mini-album ("Bye Bye") also borrows from Fur Elise. (They're on their classical music tribute phase rn.) It really will not be a waste of time if you go through each of their title track MVs one by one, from pre-Yeri "Happiness" or re-debut "Ice Cream Cake" all the way to "Queendom" and ultimately, "Psycho."
Who knows, maybe your curiosity will be piqued quite enough that you'll decide to dive in to the hidden magnificence that is their B-sides. That is where RV thrives. You will not be bored.

10:20 at this time (2014) it was the year they debuted but yeri (the 5th member) wasn’t old enough and couldn’t debut in 2014 bc korean labor laws forbade minors under 16 to work more than 30hrs a week.

I know it might be a bother for you to react to a song for the second time, but if you feel like it, there is a Performance Version of 'Feel My Rhythm' that is not quite so heavy on the special effects and you get to see the entire choreo. It's a completely different video and it's GORGEOUS! It's your channel so it is completely up to you of course. I really honestly can't pick which is my favorite between the MV and the Performance Video...

I DEFENITLY recommend you listen to the Feel My Rhythm and Birthday eps since they change the way you look at Red Velvet, the bsides are no joke and aren't something you would forget about! listening to their bsides are actually the reason why they are my favorite kpop group.

Finally part 2 i was waiting for this
Feel My Rhythm samples Bachs Air on the G String, and many of the scenes are from the Bosch painting "Garden of Earthly Delights." There's also Joy as Ophelia by Millais, Irene as the Swing by Fragonard, Wendy and Yeri as nymphs finding the head of Orpheus, Irene and Seulgi as woman with parasol by Monet, and Yeri as the birth of venus by Botticelli. I may have missed some but... Ye.
Yeri was not in Be Natural bc RV debuted early and Yeri was not old enough yet, her first songs are Ice Cream Cake (a red song) and Automatic (a velvet song).

They released Wildside (a Japanese track) the same week I think as Feel My Rhythm, and it's incredible! Much like Dreamcatcher, RV has no bad songs, their discography is baller. I would say to check out Wildside and #CookieJar for Japanese releases, and Queendom for the first title track after Psycho/Wendy's injury.
