    I finally made the jump to dirt, I'm watching and learning. I'm way more confident just by watching you for this past half year or so. I have to study for my journeyman exam and take it within the next 3 months or extend it for an additional 3. I've learned how to read stakes and grade so far. What else would you recommend?

      Make a list of goals for yourseff. short term, 5 year and a 10 year goals. Theas goals will be a guid for your future desions. Theas goals can change they are not set in stone. Sometimes opertunitys will popup from no where and change your goals. Just be sure you want to do it and be happy to do it what ever it is.

    When I would set up rotory laser on tripod , I would push down with a foot on that foot leg on the tripod leg to insure the leg was firmly in the ground.
    There were a few times that the servaying staking didn't match the grade on the ' blue prints ' - plans. I would always shoot hubs & figure grade & cross reference to plans to see if they match. If not I would make '' note on plans per staking '" .

    • @TheLeverMonkey
      @TheLeverMonkey  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@joelhunter4082 I do it so I can see better. If you are in hard ground you would have it in front on the ground to help with leverage.

    • @summitxcontractors6373

      @The Lever Monkey in hard ground you still want it behind you. Having the blade down behind you changes the leverage and allows more down force to your teeth.

    Man that the hard way where is the grade rod with the elevation tape on it .I’m used setting up the laser them putting the laser rode on the hub get my signal then move the tap to that elevation then figure out how far to go down we use 1and 1/4 inches equals one tenth on the rod I must be spoiled

    • @TheLeverMonkey
      @TheLeverMonkey  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you are 😆. That is a linker rod you are talking about. With underground we dig deeper than the linker rod can reach up too. So we use 1" alumanum rod as our grade poles.

    • @mhbpodnk
      @mhbpodnk 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That will work we just transfer our grade down in the trench by making a bench mark by putting a painted dot on the top of a fixed piece of pipe and use that as our new bench mark but where your at you don’t have to worry about hitting the water table at 15 feet below ground

      I think its cool what we get to dig with the minis it's always a super tight technical spot where you got 100 different things your watching out for on top of our normal responsibilities so in my opinion it makes the day go by really quickly .I don't like how there isn't even enough room in cab for your hardhat or lunchbox and in the winter when it gets super cold the more layers of clothes you have on the less room you have to move lol

    Good video, but what's up with your spotter/grade setter?? does this guy understand the importance of his job? complacency gets people killed, and causes unnecessary
    damage to property and equipment....If he worked with/for me the question would be should I retain, retrain, or replace this guy? It starts at the top to mentor and keep
    good people...Does he completely understand the responsibility and scope of the job? the appearance is No...He should be guiding you, not the other way around...
    Keep the videos coming! Be Safe!
