    I met with the missionaries for about a year. I was reading the BOM and visiting the church from time to time. But that came to a crashing halt because I didn't commit to abandoning my Evangelical church. It kinda hurt when I realized I couldn't have civil conversation with LDS members unless I completely abandoned my Evangelical beliefs.

    Isn't it amazing that what is so obvious, "by their fruits ye shall know them", seems to be ignored as the precious measuring tool it is.
    As believers in God, we have got to pull together. In the great polarization, we believers have to rally together around Jesus. The darkness is challenging enough without us adding to the problem.

I just didn't get him. But I really resonated with his depression story. I have odd interests in groups of people too. I'm currently into gloriavale! I just find them so fascinating and want to watch or read everything there is. But I have zero interest in joining the group! And I like what he said about following your interests in fighting depression so you don't lose that spark completely. Whether the interest makes sense to others or not.

    One of the many things that I love about the restored gospel is that you can see many commonalities with many different religions. Catholics- emphasis on authority, structure, and ordinances, Protestants- common belief that the reformers were appointed by God, Charismatics- belief in the gifts of the Spirit, Judaism- emphasis on the law, belief in no hell, Muslims- emphasis on a great Prophet(s). Buddhists - purpose in suffering.

    Great to learn of Steve’s journey and background to his connection with the LDS church. That Jim Bennet and Jacob Hansen discussion released on Friday was crazy. I actually felt bad for Steve in the middle of the contentious conversation that unfortunately didn’t fare well for one of his guests. I do however, don’t agree on his “fruits”perception with regards to apologetics. Yes, there are differences in apologetics but most are not afraid and do produce fruits. Unfortunately, misinformation or outright disingenuous attacks on the LDS church NEED to be corrected. It just needs to be civil at least. Watch his video released last Friday with Bennet and Hansen and you will get a feel of what shouldn’t be and why Steve perceives what he does. The problem is the divide WITHIN the church and how we are to understand our relationship of those who have left and fight the church.

    As a member of the church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints, I have always gone to different churches when I've been traveling! I'm a very deep thinking person and I'm very curious about the world 🌎 and how God's children worship Jesus Christ!
    I have known God since I was a little girl, since I was four years old I have felt the spirit around me! So I recognize the spirit very well and how God speaks to me!
    When I have attended other churches, it's been very interesting 🤔 but I have always felt like the truth was missing, it was an overwhelming feeling of the truth missing that I'm used to through attending the Temple, and sacrament and church conference! And people are sealed together for eternity like I am to my husband, it's sad knowing other's don't have these blessings! I have a testimony of the restored gospel, and I know that it's true! This is Jesus Christ's church, and I'm forever greatful for the church in my life ❗💜🙏🏻

    • @gatecrashercanadamb
      @gatecrashercanadamb ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thomaspearson1919 I get where you’re trying to go with this but this isn’t the tactic to get anyone to believe in the biblical Jesus. In everything we do, it must be done in love. Build connections, create relationships, speak truth in love, point to Christ of the Bible in all things.

    • @blusheep2
      @blusheep2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Let me try a different tact with you since you claim to be a deep thinker, and I have no reason to believe that isn't true.
      The Bible says the heart is deceptive beyond all things. Though you feel "truth" in the temple, isn't that relying on feelings a bit much. The main reason that the average person believes something is not because of evidence but because of desire. Most of us aren't the critical thinkers we believe ourselves to be because we aren't well designed for rational thought. When confronted with an opposing view our first reaction is to "deny it," and our second one is to "forget about it." We tend to our comfort zones and they make us feel good while anything outside of our norms make us feel uncomfortable.
      All these are good reasons to challenge your feelings in the temple.
      Now I'd like to understand how you, as a deep thinker, have thought through the fact that, in Joseph's last days, he taught a concept of God that parallels the very sin of Lucifer that got him kicked out of heaven as recorded in the book of Isaiah. Does that bother you at all when you consider such an obvious problem with Joseph Smith's "revelations?"

    • @JaneHallstrom1
      @JaneHallstrom1 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Lord might wonder, what is this “Biblical Jesus,” since He existed long before the Bible ever did. He’s not a character in a Book. But He is kind and patient and loves you anyway, even if you see Him that way.

    I love what you are doing trying to bring those who love Christ, even with differing understandings, together. Our BOM scripture that there are only two churches has nothing at all to do with human institutions. There are only two churches, One of light, of God, and one of darkness, of the devil. One could be a member of any church and be dogmatic and small minded and petty and not receive the Light. While those who love God should support and encourage each other to love with all our might, even if our understanding is a bit different.
    It is a petty belief to think that at judgement, the Lord might look at a Latter-Day Saint and (perhaps smiling) say I know you loved me and encouraged others to love me, you did great, but (smile gone) you had a regretful misunderstanding about my nature, so I'm gonna have to send you to hell anyway. That is just silly, but I have talked to many that believe that very thing, as they pat themselves on the back for their own belief.

    So, I like his answer to that statement. We each have a different relationship with Him.
    I also read Christian self help books. They are much more readable than those written by LDS authors.
    Merlin Carothers is my favorite

    • @blusheep2
      @blusheep2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The reason a Christian will say this to you is because of the ontology you assign your Christ. Though the stories and background of Christ's earthly ministry are borrowed from Christian scripture, the ontology of the Mormon Christ flies in the face of it. In the Mark 13:22 we read, "For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect." So, there will be counterfeit Christ's and you can bet your last dollar that those false Christ's will use Christian scripture to justify their claims.
      So, its not that Christians don't recognize that Mormon theology incorporates the gospels, but that, from there, they distort the nature of Christ into something unrecognizable from scripture.

    They put copies of The Book Of Mormon in the rooms in the hope that people will read them and even keep them. Makes it hard to "steal" them. I love reading about other religions and histories, including the general history of Christianity. The early Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints also resembles the New Testament church, meeting in homes, instead of large buildings, for example. Some of the books I've read that have things that members of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints would recognize, but the authors had no idea could connect to The Book Of Mormon or The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints are Book Of The Hopi by Frank Waters and Lost Cities And Ancient Mysteries Of Central And South America by David Hatcher Childress. On another occasion on a college education channel I saw a show telling some stories from Native American legends. One of the more recent tales was about several Chiefs who got together to decide if they would adopt the ways of the White Man or keep their traditions. The argument got very intense and one of them stepped outside, where he saw three White Men dressed all in white. Who told him that his people must keep their traditions or they would be destroyed. Now if this story was created by Europeans they would have said if they didn't take on the Christianity of the White Man they would be destroyed, but you would think if it was made up by Native Americans it would have been three Ancient Native Chiefs. That neither of these is the case lends the story validity. I wish I could remember the name of the show. In both Hawaiian and Japanese legends they have a story of the Sun hiding in a cave for three days before their respective heroes convince it to come out. Mythologies are a good place to find Bible stories and other things hidden in plain sight.

    17:16 if we are to receive better knowledge from God, we need to look outside of our own traditions and and cultures to others to see what things God spoke through His Holy Spirit to other people and other lands Christ is to bring all things in one at His coming. We may find pieces of lost truth that other places have. But the Lord will never reveal anything that we are not yet ready for.

In reference to how Latter-day Saints view the Protestant Reformation, may I encourage you, one and all, to read Terryl and Fiona Givens' 2020 book, "All Things New: Rethinking Sin, Salvation, and Everything In Between?" The Givens are highly-respected LDS scholars (in some segments of the church). It's their belief that the LDS church has been saddled/weighed down by the concepts and vocabulary of Protestantism for far too long and that it's high time to unhitch itself.

Yet, for the demographic I mentioned, which I believe is formidable and growing, actually, just the opposite is true. Hopefully, this helps.

    … to get more viewers.
    At some point we have to look for help to live what we believe as the word of God and not seek for ways to monetize it.
    2 Nephi 26:29 “He commandeth that there shall be no priestcrafts; for, behold, priestcrafts are that men preach and set themselves up for a light unto the world, that they may get gain and praise of the world; but they seek not the welfare of Zion.”
    Otherwise we prioritize the way as a thing in and of itself and we forget what it’s for.
    Not trying to be a wet blanket. Love these, but the concept of open minded Evangelicals appearing on LDS podcasts and vice versa isn’t that novel anymore, 1) and 2) it doesn’t really help either side learn that much if they are already open minded.
