    No one captured that feeling of being total trash and embracing it like Salem. They definitely kept me from killing myself. Much love to the band, and thank you for putting this together.

      Bless you both 🙏🏿. Yes Salem makes deeply spiritual music. But not through transcendence, through embodiment and acceptance. So much of music tries to overlook the blackness, but they see you. They have night vision.

    i still remember when i listened to King Night for the first time when i was 14. more specifically, the title track. there was something about that explosion of synth in the beginning, mixing with the choir and the intricate percussion. i loved it so much. then i listened to the rest of the album and loved it even more. not even in how it sounded, but how it felt. haunting, ugly, almost like it wanted you to feel like shit yet embracing it and finding the beauty within the shit. salem immediately became my obsession from that point forward for the rest of my formative years and still remains as one of my favorite bands of all time to this day. i’m 25 now. no band has put out such timeless music that influenced a whole generation after it without anyone even truly realizing it.
    thanks for this video. salem's story needs to be told for decades to come.

    I came to this from the JOEYY music video with the “Salem” pill that was referenced in Joeyys video, with everyone in the comments going “the Salem pill is crazy!”, me having no idea what that meant.
    As a trashy opioid but holed up, smart addict, I just relayed heavily to all the pictures. They really show 2 things. Addiction and living as a free person in America. I had friends like these guys, every night was some sketchy bon fire or we’d hit some private underground strip club while coming down off 5 pills of Eu rolls. Sweaty, dirty, not eating enough, lots of kissing, touching…. Just friend group, addict stuff. Looking at it (the pictures shown in the video are a perfect representation of how I spent my 19-24 years) and it just brings me right back to those old friends who are dead and gone or adults with kids now. I just heavily relate to the art/pictures shown and it gives a sense of “oh, other people were weird, dirty, beautiful, and free like us”….
    Too bad I was the only musician out of all of my friends lol…. If only they played music 😂

    I think a lot of people miss out on how Salem as a musical group and as an entity which was so curiously unveiled over time through the internet and has been compiled in an easily accessible, consumable manner so well in this video, is by far the most comprehensive portrait in existence of what it's like to be an addict during the opioid epidemic in America.
    I say that as a 27 year old who's spent the past 10 years fighting to overcome heroin and meth addiction since the age of 17. This shit was so darkly relatable it was hard to watch at times. Thank you for this though. I think this is a more important piece of media than you probably understand...

      So cutting. I guess that’s the really exiting stuff of the early 2010s. That will be the music that will last in 20,30,40 years of that time. The outstanding obscure. It’s really like what really kicks me back in the days. The sound of witchhouse was redlights of Salem first for me. All this vibe. Occultism was a big part of all that. A time of waste with money

      The idea of the term 'opioide epidemic' ist a frame that we don't need (i just watched the first minute, just commented because i don't like corrupted langugage)

    • @BurnInBliss
      @BurnInBliss 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@meinkanal3507 have you struggled with opioid addiction? How are the words corrupted? It’s a fucked up state the worlds in, and there’s a lot more people struggling with it than you might think. It’s a fitting “frame” because the word epidemic makes you think of it as how it is, a deadly, addictive drug that has swept the nation causing death, destruction and despair where it goes. Stfu.

I found my 26 year old son dead of an overdose in 2016, then watched my second wife OD in 2018. Wow, Amazing documentary. It's really something else, these guys though their very different lifestyles (from what most people think is normal) created something that never before existed. I liked the most the part with random clips and phtos. It's like the story was was told by itself...
    really great job putting all this together

    Most people don't know about the band Salem, but so many people have heard their influence on music today. It's everywhere and for some reason, they never got any credit for it. Maybe that's exactly how they wanted it to be.

      Witchhouse was robbed by Trap music. Trap wouldn't exist without it. The genre is alive and well, but very underground. It's kind of the black metal of pop/electronica.

    • @josef786
      @josef786 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@HittokiriBattousai17 you need to specify a very specific brand of trap music in the lieu of cloud rap and SoundCloud rap would not exist without witchhouse. But Salem is clearly very inspired by mid 2000s trap (Gucci mane) as well as 90s Memphis underground and Houston chopped and screwed. To say that trap wouldn't exist without witchhouse is a dishonest comment but I do understand what you mean you're just not explaining yourself properly.

      @@josef786 I feel like hints of salems aesthetic can be found in bones work most prominently they could’ve maybe had a big aesthetic influence on schemaposse (JGRXXN, ghostemane and lil peep) but that’s as far as I can see them influencing music related to rap there’s probably more tho.

    • @josef786
      @josef786 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@garrettbeno2174 there's way more dude you're missing out on the whole cloud rap subgenre from the 2010s which Salem and witchhouse was foundational and a precursor too, influencing artists online like black kray, sgp, rocky, early carti, awful records Yung bruh and many more in their sounds and aesthetics

    • @garrettbeno2174
      @garrettbeno2174 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@josef786 see I was gonna say sgp but I think he was doing what he was doing without salems influence bc he’s been experimental and innovative years later. And black kray has been associated with salem for a fat minute now and Yung bruh fits in with lil peep, the people that I named influenced a lot of later rappers so salem obviously has had a bigger influence than what I named but I think the ones I named are the major one. Tyler the creators goblin album also gives me the vibe of king knight more than bastard
