It's a awsome machine, I own two and use them for Search and Recovery image communications (e.g. downed aircaft, inspecting a building after an earthquake) for first responders. I've added a third camera unit for direct video transmit signals to the Incident Commander on site and has a distance of over a mile on UHF. I use the onboard HD cam for piloting only. I also have more than one back-up battery.
damn... here we go Parrot... now you're speaking my language... might have to pick up another 2.0 to play with your new features... ( i chopped the USB plug off the first one )
i have ardrone 2.0..i have replaced the motors, even swapping the motor electronic boards with good once, change the cross, additional batteries..once i bought phantom, i never look back..but it was good entry level tho..still keep the ardrone for the memories, still flying good..
Yes this capability seems to be very tempting. 10-15 minutes of flight time can cover a lot of ground around a building, you can quickly zoom over fences, walls and rooves. Compared to a security guard on foot it is incredibly fast and efficient, and even much cheaper than a permanent non-moving CCTV security camera. The guard can just sit inside, and send out drone after drone, one actively flying while another is charging it's battery. This future is both scary and exciting!
I just got one of the new drones and I love it! This is a great gadget and I'm sure it'll make flying and filming more fun, but what I think is needed most is a range extender. There are wifi repeaters out there but I think it's be a lot better just to design a transmitter with a longer range and FPV.
Coupled with stuff like OpenCV it could even autonomously identify things that shouldn't be there, such as people. I think this is why Parrot released all those SDKs, because a flying mobile camera that sends video back to and receives commands from a wifi computer base-station - is a VERY powerful platform with many interesting capabilities.
Awesome. Finally GPS! Parrot, where's your extended battery at? How about a solar hull?? Or, how about carbon fiber blades and gears?? Love my new drone so far though. Crashed it today so now I need to replace my gears now too. Schnanigans. Not an issue of piloting, it's an issue of going out of range. Need the SR10000 repeater!
That may be difficult, as it may cause a cascade of needed upgrades and modifications. Anything put onto the flying platform may require more weight, more battery, stronger motors. Much better to push the limits of your ground receiver/transmitter as much as you can first, strong directional antenna and the like.
If there is an AR drone 3.0, it should include quieter motors, more durable indoor frame, this GPS add-on built in, 1080p camera, stabilized video, better connection to WiFi, and allow an R/C option, with a physical optional add-on to phones/tablets that allow R/C control. This would make it so much better.
Just found this ... Blade 350QX ...$419.00 Amazing I have several blade helicopters and a Quadcopter Nano QX. They make Great Products and have amazing tech support. I just preordered ...Can't wait to compare it to my DJI Phantom!
this will really show the depth of my long range videos on my youtube channel.... imagine a 2.5kilometer flight with the GPS coordinates all mapped out... or better yet ... flown autonomously!!!
I bought one today and it's not as easy as it looks, I need lots of practice in very open spaces and the batteries do not last long. It is great fun I can't wait to get more proficient with this AR Drone. Is there anyway you can delete the practice flights?
Neat! I think i'd still prefer the Parrot AR though (Coz of streaming cameras and 802.11) Now that i've got a model-name to google i found some other cheap multi-rots too: the iFly 4, and the Lotus T700. Also found some hobbyists who say they've "built and sold some quality hexas with more features than this, and at a lower price point [compared to the DJI Phantom]". Interesting times indeed!
Hello, I have two questions. First I bought a AR Drone this Christmas and I don't see a place to be able to connect a flash memory or a flight recorder. Second, does the drone start banking by itself when the battery power gets below 35%?
Additionally, please make the hull of the 3.0 out of an unbreakable resin. Please create a back-up battery system for flights that get out of control. Please create a homing system that automatically brings the drone to the end-user at the press of a button. Please give the drone the ability and battery life to be flown through the community while the pilot remains in the basement. Please add a 2-way speaker on the drone so that we may communicate with outside subjects. Battery is cross compat
Good, you turned me on, but, where do they sell this gadget?, I tried to find it at Amazon or eBay ad they don't have any idea, how much is it?. How can I download the AR Drone Director?
We wanted to have a GPS so that the ar drone can fly higher up plus have GPS to hold it self or rth home on it self if we go out of range!! Can this GPS be add to do that later?
Oops, i overestimated. You could probably get away with one of those small folding solar panels (for charging smartphones etc), you want at least 3 Watts, they'll get something for well under $100. Not sure if the AR Drone could lift it though, it'll be 250-500 extra grams.
Afaik this sort of software is regulated, be sure to check you can actually get it first. i have heard that in USA it's actually illegal to sell way-point capable UAVs to civilians. Some Kickstarter campaigns have been shut-down because of this. It's because USA is worried they will be used as cheap cruise missiles, carrying bombs. You can get free software though, like Open-pilot. Just as long as it's not for-sale it seems to be legally ok. Maybe is QGroundControl is free, i don't know.
@@robertryan2102 I've been given the opportunity to get the gps flight recorder edition. But wasn't sure. Think I'll still get it though. Can you PLEASE keep in touch and let me know if yours works fine and everything. Love to hear from you.
Well the people that make the ar drone 2.0 is selling it but as you said the USA is worried I will just buy it out of country. A police offer will not know the difference :P cant wait for it to come out. :)
Solar Hull... hmmm **ideas ideas**. A square meter of thin-film solar panel that only folds out while landed, might be able to collect enough power into the battery for 1 full flight per day. With a max travel distance of 3.6 km per charge there'd still be many uses for this. You could set waypoints and it would gradually reach the destination day by day, operating similar to a semi-autonomous mars rover.
Marz calm down, there is no need to be upset. 2 hours of recording space on a device that only operates for 10 minutes at a time, is kindof funny when you think about it. But i guess it's designed for multiple flights separated by recharges. Or even battery swap-overs. You could go out into the field with 2 hours worth of spare batteries (8-12 batteries?!), and not have to also carry a laptop to transfer your videos onto. A strangely unique situation maybe, hehe.
The Phantom and AR Drone are in different classes. Phantom has more power by far and range. It should it's more than twice the price but it doesn't have FPV like the Drone. Nor does it have all the tricks the Drone can do. Apples and oranges. Battery life, buy some aftermarket batteries like many including I have done. 13-15 minutes flying is quite long. The Drones tiny motors and board get very warm, bordering on hot. I'd venture to say that running them 20 mins is not best idea longterm.
I hope you will make a Ar drone 3.0 maybe with better motor,wi fi, GPS for alt hold & position hold also rth, better camera like 1080p an down facing camera 720p, better sonar, maybe try to may it a 450 size that can be use for wi fi or rc :) please come out with a Ar drone 3.0 with this new upgrade:) please
Since the "phantom" costs 570Euros and doesn't even have a mounted camera It's not really comparable dji is for expert hobbyists and professionals they rock but Ardrone is made for nearly everyone that's the whole point ;). The phantom sure flies better but if parrot aimed for a 570E retail price it'd be way better and I mean waaaaaay better^^.
i think this GPS can't do that, it would need to have piloting software inbuilt onboard, and i don't think it has that. But perhaps an aftermarket device could be plugged into that USB slot instead ;) Perhaps an Arduino or Raspberry Pi eh? The USB slot was certainly a good forward design
Where's the beef? You talk about the miracle, but don't tell how to get the Saint. I've browsing around and don't find the way to get this great gadget you advertise
Next time I hear a bump in the night I'll send out my Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 to do guard duty via autonomous flight. When I find the intruder I'll switch to free flight and snap their mug shots for the authorities.
I never understood how it could fly above mountains and forests having to be bounded with wifi constantly... great machine and concept anyway but the control range always worried me.

Four jigs! This is awesome and in AR.Drone 3 it needs to be build in!

J’adore quand des personnes montrent qu’on peut faire plein de choses comme ça avec une autonomie de 10 minutes
When will the flight recorder be available at the Parrot shop?
Any estimate regarding price?
I am really looking forward to the release.
This looks pretty mint. Will it work with the original AR.Drone?
That may be difficult, as it may cause a cascade of needed upgrades and modifications. Anything put onto the flying platform may require more weight, more battery, stronger motors.

we need 1080p camera ,GPS, and night vision camera , wop! wop!!!
Julien, are you going to release a car charger for the batteries
looking at the scale of that last map. It seems the drone would loose signal
umm it doesn't need a signal with the ground control program

Must the Drone always be in the range of your Smartphone, if you made a route for it?
no, it doesn't have to be.
damn:O i was waiting for a cool new ar.drone 3.0!:D now it msot be ar.drone 2.1:D
Hi Hector, you can buy it in Saturn with 24 months warranty :)
When will this be available in Canada and in the USA?
Spectacular!!
Hello, I have two questions. First I bought a AR Drone this Christmas and I don't see a place to be able to connect a flash memory or a flight recorder. Second, does the drone start banking by itself when the battery power gets below 35%?
Is there any changes to the physical drone itself? If I want to buy one can I get one now or wait till their new version comes out?
Why is the video only in 360p?
2 hours of HD video for something that it's battery last 10 minutes…. nice
Its out in other countries now but what about the US when will we be able to buy it?

I just got my quadcopter in the mail ok, now I got the battey on charger ( well the charging lite turn green or stay
red? )
Shall i wait for a AR drone 3.0 or get this?
Good, you turned me on, but, where do they sell this gadget?, I tried to find it at Amazon or eBay ad they don't have any idea, how much is it?. How can I download the AR Drone Director?
There are no changes, all 2.0 AR Drones have the USB plug to connect to this GPS thing.
We wanted to have a GPS so that the ar drone can fly higher up plus have GPS to hold it self or rth home on it self if we go out of range!! Can this GPS be add to do that later?
I put the flight recorder in and it flew off, out of control.
There is supposed to be a patch/update for it now. Where is it?

So it can go further by you controlling it and not the ground station
Video could use some work though.
It would be insane to combine GoPro recordings with AR Drone footage.
Afaik this sort of software is regulated, be sure to check you can actually get it first.

The best should be to import AR Drone Academy to Androïd app !
Then you will see the number of connections and flight records really increasing !
AWSOME!!!!!!!!!Now only EFF would retract they're position as regards to drones and start using then pro-actively,we will all benefit from it!
thats awesome. yes!
What is he giving as an example for dev- lopers? Is it "q-drone-control?"
Ar drone 3 = CES 2014; I'm pretty sure about it since the ar.drone 1 and 2 sold successfully.
that depends where do you live (country) in america it is $299.99 without tax
The real questions when will it be out. It's been on their website forever.......
Is this an autonomous flight?
Do you now proximately when do this device go to market
very awesome!!
Bonjour, quand allez--vous passer à AR Flight 2.2 pour Android ? Quand pourrons-nous utiliser le module GPS avec Android ? Merci
3g would be good so you can go anywhere as long as you have reception.
Good, you turned me on but, where do they sell this gadget nowadays? And how much is it,
Now it's 2019, is the gps flight recorder still supported today? Thanks for any information.

@roidroid ... i'm on Nexus 7 tablet... there is no reply button ... or thumbs
Is it 3G on the drone
and the Android version? 2014?
i wish if was possible ar.drone 3.0 but i strong doubt....unless if they sell some kit for upgrade yes.
la calidad de la imagen no es muy buena ... si tuviera la calidad de la go pro o si diara la posibilidad de poder incorporarla , seria bueno
