- Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami was originally published in Japan in 1987. I read a 2003 Vintage Paperback edition of the Jay Rubin English language translation from 2000 and published in the UK.

just finished the book (my first Murakami novel) and it totally flew over my head the point you brought up about different realities! it makes so much sense and, looking back, it did put me in different head spaces whenever he went to different places: the uni campus, his dorm, midori‘s first house, the sanatorium, the house he rented at the end of the book. really loved your video and gave me a whole new perspective on norwegian wood! appreciate it and will sure be subscribing

Interesting video, Norwegian Wood was the first Murakami book, my favourite is the The Wind Up Bird Chronicle.
Thanks! The Wind Up Bird Chronicle was great but I think my favorite is still Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World.

You have the quality eyes to catch the uniqueness of the book to make people want to read it! I read it when it came out in Japan as a college student. It was not like any other books that were out there at that time. So refreshing and shocking the way Murakami described.

I love those too! My favorites that I’ve read so far are probably Kafka on the Shore and Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World but love others as well. I plan to reread The Wind Up Bird Chronicle at some point.
I plan on reading Hard-boiled next, then A Wild Sheep Chase and finally 1Q84. Murakami is just so wonderful!

Yes, the same. I love sitting in silence for 45 minutes. I haven’t been to meeting since Covid but I still meditate in silence & try to work on my queries 😊 I’m reading a wonderful book called The Parallel Sayings of Jesus and Buddha by Marcus Borg. It’s so nice to have found you on here.
I love the silence in meeting as well - It’s so restorative. We’ve been doing zoom meetings during the pandemic but it’s not quite the same. The book sounds fascinating!
Thanks about the explanation on different realities. I really did not like reading this book. I have been processing it for the past few days and just thinking about what parts stood out to me and what ideas I did like.
