Every time I think I have tired of Led Zep I just wait 6 months and its as fresh as I first heard it in the 70s.

I was lucky enough to see The Led Zeppelin in the summer of 77 at the Rock meca known as Madison Square Garden. No warm up band, just Zeppelin. Best F ING show EVER!

Hey fellas from Ned in Spain. This opening is a tribute by Page and Plant to the amazing harmonica master Sonny Boy Williamson II who's career was revived and taken to a high level when he went to England during the early 60-s to show the Brits some authentic Blues. He loved it, made some good money for a change, was treated like a God and even had a bunch of fancy tailored 3 piece suits with a bowler hat too boot. All the Brit Blues lovers like Jeff Beck, Clapton, Plant, Page ,The Stones, the Animals, Steve Winwood all went to see him and some played with him. It was the same the other Blues greats like Howling Wolf Willie Dixon Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker. I knew one of the guys who brought these great blues players overseas and said in the the first couple of rows of the concert hall was every heavy hitter of the British scene. When the Wolf, Muddy or Sonny Boy came out they sat there stunned with their mouths open. The place went nuts. It changed everything.
True but they gave them no song writing credits until they were sued.

That is SO satisfying to hear! I LOVE hearing about idols themselves having idols, being tongue-tied when they meet them, etc (off the cuff example: Adele said she "lost it" when she met Stevie Nicks, who said she liked Adele's music. Adele said she broke into sobs in front of the iconic singer, "snot everywhere, it was embarrassing!" or something like that, lol). However, as someone here said, it sucks that our heroes of the Classic Era didn't always give credit where it was due, especially when the Cats in Question could've really used the money.
@@thomast596 all artist steal a little bit from other artists and make it their own. I too think they should give credit properly. I've heard hip hop beats sampling Zeppelin. The first time I heard one of their drum samples was done by the Beastie Boys "Rhymin & Stealin" . It was brilliant. I wonder if they ever paid Zep for that one?

Zeppelin is top shelf rock and roll. Love how they take you on a musical journey on every song! Honestly who can find a groove like they can? So damn good.
At long last a reaction to led zeppelin that appreciates JPJ and how much he brought to the group as most others all they seem to focus on is Page and Plant. Also JPJ and Bonzo were probably the greatest driving force to any band I’ve heard. I’m 73 saw them live before they became famous. Also Pink Floyd when both were performing in clubs

Zeppelin II is a bass clinic, JPJ & Bonham kinda in the shadows but provided such a solid foundation. JPJ just flows & still holds the bottom, he's always been a huge source of inspiration for me as a bass player.
Bonzo's groove was so tight, even his mistakes sounded good. I like groove type drummers especially with a JPJ type bassist. People argue that Neil Peart was the best rock drummer of all time. No way. He had absolutely no groove. You have to have groove to make my top 10 list.

Zep II was an amazing bass LP
This song took some inspiration from Sonny Boy Williamson. They released both the first and second albums in 1969 - two albums in one year - and they both sounded *this* good. Not to mention, they toured like crazy. The 3rd album is going to be a big change in sound. After the insane whirlwind of touring and recording, they all took a much-needed break. Robert took Jimmy to a remote cabin in Wales called Bron-Yr-Aur (pronounced like "bron-er-ire") which means "golden breast" or "golden hills" in Welsh. It was a place Robert's father used to take the family on holiday when he was a child. At the time, it had no running water or electricity, so they brought acoustic guitars, harmonica, and a lot of batteries for a handheld tape recorder. This radically different location with its nature and peace and quiet would help influence the types of songs they wrote and the different musical avenues they wanted to explore which would all be captured for the third album (as well as show up on a few later albums also). It may not be what you've come to expect from Zep, but listen with an open mind because really, the only thing you should "expect" from Zep, is change.
Henrietta, I know a lot of fans in the day were confused, disappointed in this new direction Zep was heading but I bought the record when it came out and it VERY quickly became one of my favourites.
Sonny boy Williamson was a legendary showman, the guy can play the harmonica perfectly jus using his mouth.
You spelt "Alister Crowleys House" wrong. Zep 3 was heavily influenced by the occult that influenced JP.
@@lilnerf9269 You spelled Crowley's first name incorrectly. The house formerly owned by both Aleister Crowley and Jimmy Page is called Boleskine. It is located in Scotland and while the band never wrote, practiced, recorded or stayed there, the property was used to film Jimmy's fantasy sequence in the concert movie The Song Remains The Same.

I don't think he's underrated at all. It's just that people have forgotten or are new to his contributions. Most every serious musician recognizes how magnificent of a musician he is. 🎉
My older brothers to listen to this when I was really young..... This was ingrained in me while I'm 7 8 9 years old.... As a teenager and the young man... This was my bag

Nearly all Zeppelins music , and all rock music for that matter is based on blues music. That's where it all started. Back in the day American youth was ignoring the old blues till the British young people were loving it and brought it back to the states.
When I eventually heard the original, I could appreciate how well Robert did.
This was one of my first Zeppelin songs, and definitely one that indicated to me that there were some Serious Dudes. They were not fucking around with the whole music thing. They showed up strapped. I got the same vibe from Rush, Sabbath, Purple......
You know what guys, of all the reactors, you guys are my favorites! I’ve always liked watching reactions to the music, to see someone hear it for the 1st time is cool. But most are contrived, fake or they really don’t know music. It’s evident that you guys know music and can definitely appreciate as well as understand the wonder of it all but I believe you’re hearing most of this kind of music for the first time which makes it all the more interesting! Good job and keep it up! The live stuff from this period is fantastic, and captured in all it's glory at the Royal Albert Hall gig in 1970. (multi-track audio and pro shot footage) Bring it on Home, I Can't Quit You Baby, How Many More Times and Moby Dick particularly are legendary.
Yeah, when that Royal Albert footage became available in 2003 on the "Led Zeppelin: DVD" I was downright giddy discovering all that Treasure!

It offends me when people say they stole blues music. They were honoring blues music and putting their own spin on it, which in turn created a sound that nobody had heard and is unique to LZ and LZ only.

I am absolutely in love with watching young people with little exposure to rock meet the various masters of the genre. Zepplin were definitely the kings of blues rock. My request? You guys NEED to listen to "When The Levee Breaks" off their untitled fourth album (aka "Zoso"). I swear from the bottom of my heart that AFTER you listen to it, you will be pissed at yourself for every second you put it off. For your own future peace of mind, listen to it. And if you can't trust me, a random white guy on the internet you've never met, why, then who CAN you trust?

@@AirplayBeats Sounds great! Be prepared, though. Led Zeppelin sounds very different live than they do in the studio. Some prefer them live, because it gives them a different experience from listening to the albums, and each live performance is different from the prior one. I, and I think most fans, prefer their magnificent studio sound, where Jimmy could layer multiple guitars, and stuff like that. Jimmy using a double-neck guitar in concerts was great 'n all, but the man still only has two hands. lol Don't get me wrong, they've got some incredible live performances on TH-cam. But I just wanted to prepare you to not expect the songs to sound just like the album cuts. They were such masters in the studio, it was often difficult to replicate that live. Robert Plant put it best when asked in an interview a few years ago what Zeppelin was like as a live band. He said, *"Sometimes we were shit."* Then after a brief pause, as a confident, knowing smile crept onto his face, he continued, *"But sometimes .... sometimes, we were the greatest thing to ever walk across that stage."*

This song is all about their connection to the blues and how it was the inspiration and wellsoring of pretty much everything they were up to.
Most people don't realize that led zeppelin had all 9 studio albums in the top 100 all at once! No one else ever did that not even close to who was the best ever

LZ all these years later never tire, I listened to them thru my David Clarks 50 some years ago, the best coming home high after a high school party.
I have always said that Zeppelin II is the best rock album of all time, but Zeppelin III is my favorite.

I watched you guys do all of album 1 and now Led Zeppelin II. You guys haven't found a song you didn't like. I can't wait for ya'll to do Led Zeppelin III and IV and all the others. You might go through the whole catalog and not find a song that was trash. It's all fire to me. I love watching reactions to them from people that know music and have never heard them before. It's fun watching ya'll do this. I can remember the first time I listened to them and I can feel what that was like again by watching it through your eyes. I still find things going on in their songs that I never noticed before and I've been listening to them for almost 40 years. They are amazing.
Man, it was an event when they came to town. We would buy 2 rows of tickets and go in a caravan of about 10 cars.

I don't know how much engineering went into Plant's vocals during the slow blues. To my mind he's straight up impersonating Sonny Boy Williamson. Check out his version.
JPJ just comes out of his shoes on this song. Goddamn that bass line.

A lot of bands used old black roots blues tunes in this era, but Zeppelin was different in that they never credited the original writers or performers until they were sued. The Stones always credited the originals and even helped boost their careers in tribute but Page just claimed authorship on the first and second albums which were virtually ALL blues artist songs remade by Zeppelin. Watch "you need love" by Muddy waters to see where "Whole Lotta Love" came from. This song is practically a word for word copy of the SB Williamson version. Willie Dixon wasn't spared either as they copied his music as well. All that is fine but to not credit the originals always bothered me. That they had to sue for monies and recognition. Of course LZ was and is a total phenom and one of my favorite bands, especially this record and the first one, but I just thought Id tell you about the origins of a lot of these songs.
