Some of the best animated shows and characters have always been for adults primarily, with the colors and cartoon action to entertain kids. Like you mentioned, Tom and Jerry, Looney Tunes with Bugs and the Road Runner v Coyote. My kid and I used to watch old Betty Boop and Superman cartoons from the 30s. Those weren’t made for kids. Flintstones, Simpsons, Family Guy, South Park today, etc. ✌️
A good animated show is layered. It has something for kids, young adults and adults. My daughter watched this show at age 4-6. It was colorful and exciting. But, she probably understood less than half of what was going on. She's 13 now and still loves the show. Now, she understands 80-90+ percent. The first season is more for kids and it explodes with the Storm episode. You will see so many scenarios where there is no completely right or wrong course of action. They have to choose the lesser of two evils. We watch it, we watch reacters watching, and we talk about obvious stuff and delve into the mountains of subtext.
This is certainly a series where different ages will get something different out of it based on their understanding. *Hopefully* a 7 year old doesn't understand the complexities of genocide or sending your son on a seemingly impossible task to never have to see him again, or means to an end moral greyness. But there's lots of things for them *to* enjoy, so they let that stuff go over their head. Thankfully the series is soo endearing that when they revisit it years later, or introduce their own children to it, those extra layers are now shining through. The ability to not talk down to their audience, regardless of whether they're kids or not is such a strong point in this series. It elevates it from "good: for a kids show" to just a good show.
“7 and up” means you should be at least seven, bc of the mature themes- not that it’s created for 7 year olds specifically, lmao. Love your reactions, looking forward to the rest!

Actually, aunt wu wasn't wrong about anything 🤷
The show has been great so far, but it only keeps getting so much better here on out lol.
