This is probably one of the best concerts ever recorded, the musicianship was phenomenal and they certainly loved and enjoyed playing with Roy, thank you for posting this gem!!
My heart had been broken... Sat with my Dad... cried and listened to this... All ok.... Crying now as just lost my Daddy to kidney failure... listening to the great Roy alone now... Love you Daddy.... X...
My Father impersonated Elvis for a short time but he abd I were also huge Roy fans. We would watch this show, on VHS, almost every Saturday and Sunday night, and sing together in the dark in his room, with just the glow of the indicator lights from his old skool sound system. I lost my Dad to alcoholism 21 years ago and it was only recently i was able to barely get through watching a couple songs from Black n' White Night. "The Comedians" was definitely one of the most sentimental of the songs. It reminded me of what my Dad had to go through with my Mother because of her heartless ways. My dad kept his sense of humor through it all but he was broken inside. I miss him more than words can describe.
If you look very closely you can see that behind those dark glasses he's so much into the song that his eyes are closed most (if not all) the time. He really put his heart and soul into every one of his songs.
..Jones always had a handsome baby face back in the '50s and always thought it weird that he always believed that he wasn't that good looking. And it kind of boggled my mind to tell you the truth. Yeah pretty eyes but yes he had to wear glasses and he wore the tinted glasses because of I don't know glare the stage but yeah he put his heart and soul into everything that's just too Roy was. He wrote a lot of his songs but songs like this were song was written for him Elvis Costello was a genius because he gave him a song that fit his voice beautifully.
Roy had no powerful voice at all, the sound was more in his throat than his mouth. The new vocal master Kudaibergen or Pavarotti have/had power, Roy "only" had a wide range.
This is my first hear of this. Thank you Elvis Costello for your gift of such a wonderful song to Mr Orbison. His voice just marries wonderful words to fabulous music. What a treat it was hearing this!
This guy was a genius. Elvis wrong a great song that fit him perfectly. I've always loved Obison since I was a child, riding in the back seat of my parents car, listening to "Crying."
I'm crying tonight 😢... Very emotional day... Roy helped me through.. A amazing man... exceptional voice... Love him... and you for being here tonight for me to to say hello too ...I don't know you.. but you are here... Thank you .. a Roy O fan to another.. xxx,
Excuse you ...you do realize that Elvis Presley idolized Roy Orbison said that he was the greatest singer in the world and qoute ...had the voice of an Angel.(keeping Roy Orbison by the way) You're worried about Bruce Springsteen when he's worked with Jeff Lynne George Harrison ( beetle), Bob Dylan and oh so many more people and you think that Roy is doing well because he's on the stage with Bruce Springsteen and Elvis Costello? haha you do realize they were clamoring to get on stage with him. Roy Orbison was a music God they were honored to be near him. Their words not mine.. they could never touch his greatness and that's a fact I don't know where the hell you just got that perspective from and he was honored to work with him that's funny let me tell you something he was a music legend long before Elvis Costello or Bruce Springsteen were ever known or heard of and he was honored to work with him you think yeah that's laughable.
@@christyshultz6443 wow love your passion Christy! I am a fan (I am 56) as my mum was a massive fan of the big O and played "IN Dreams" at her funeral. Just love how this music makes me feel We will never hear the likes of it again :(
@@christyshultz6443 Maybe the fact I'm not being born in any English spoken county could affect my text interpretation, but I don't think that he had intentions to minimize Roy's magnitude. Indeed I thought the opposite, that was a way to honor him. This concert was the last that Roy played and he is whom that invite those boys and girls. KD Lang had a privilege to got a little kiss for him. Every one in that event was honored to be a part of his wonderful moment. I barely can watch and hear the songs without tears starting from my eyes. 😢💞 Roy is and will be forever in my mind and also my heart. Greetings from Brazil, guys! 🤩
I've seen and heard this song so many times in Black & White Night and every time I cry, so !!! beautiful there is no voice that can match that. but also many other songs by Roy Orbison.
I had the awesome opportunity of meeting Roy Orbison in Nashville outside of the studios I was with another entertainer won't mention his name it's not important but he was quite the gentleman yeah , and when I met him he was so nice I couldn't believe it we shook hands it's like electricity that went through my body it was nothing sexual nothing like that he was just so awesome he was a beautiful man inside and out. That was 1970 when I met him, and I will never forget it.
Back in the day, when he passed on, must have been 87 or something, I indeed was saddened not because of his death but the era faded away. He is eternal in my memory. Also the specific elements embedded in the memory that pushed for the commemoration just take whole level to another level. Any it was my freshman year in college when he passed. Still was Elizabeth Shue beautiful and a star.

Just lost my Dad to brain cancer. He was the embodiment of Fatherhood. This one one of his favorites.
Elvis called Roy the greatest singer in the world, and he was right
This is probably one of the best concerts ever recorded, the musicianship was phenomenal and they certainly loved and enjoyed playing with Roy, thank you for posting this gem!!
Agreed. I'm doubting between this and MTV's Unplugged with Nirvana
yes, thank you, this is so awesome!
it's flawless
Only wish I had been there.❤
The backup singers on this are absolutely fabulous!!!
elvis costello as an arranger = criminally underrated
Go away!

I’m sorry for your loss
Im sorry for your loss Rachel. But we share similar memories and love for our passed fathers
What a voice! What a song! What a performance! What a sound! What a gentleman!
Die herrlichste Stimmea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Costello knew how to write the perfect song for the perfect singer.
Roy's best song in my view.
Its Elvis Costello song
It is a bit a copy of Running Scared, deng, deng-deng-deng-deng... similar to songs like "No one will ever know" or "House without windows"..
His voice is effortless, so Beautiful. Not another Soul can replace this Great Man. RIP Roy 💔
Sadly we lost a genius
So right

My favorite vocalist. He left us too soon.
How can anyone give this a thumbs down? I personally love it. Roys Performance, The Orchestration, and Composition are a work of art.
Great stuff. Nice song composed by Elvis Costello and terrific rendition by Roy.
Only idiots give a thumbs down
If you're playing on stage with Roy Orbison, you play with your entire heart and soul. That's what they're doing.
Orbison... A rare a real talent... One of, if not the greatest singer of all times.. Sadly missed by all who loved and appreciated his wonderful voice
Probably, my favorite song. So emotional, great time changes. So simple, but So complex.
I completely agree, thank you !
Roy Orbison had such a beautiful powerful voice!! He left us much to soon, RIP my friend 🙂

Fantastic composition which is *tailor-made* for the one and only Roy Orbison. That last album and this movie remain a testimony to his legacy.
This song is one of Roy Orbison most beautiful songs I have ever heard him sing. It amazing (the wife)

Different lyrics to the OG recorded Costello version. I'd have to assume that Declan Elvis McCostello re-wrote/rearranged it to suit Orbison.
great song by the best singer ever
so sensible, and
so sensible and,
so sensible,

Tkank you for posting this gem🤩
wow. I have the DVD, but this introduction of the song was cut from it. Fun to see it at last.

a complete rewrite is it? Lyrics depart from EC's original. Much more dramatic here and so suitable to Roy Orbison's exquisite pipes.
