  • The recent worldwide anti-racism protests have fueled a heated discussion over a number of public artworks, monuments and street names around the world and in Germany. Once perceived as honorable, today some of them are considered offensive. So who decides what stays, and what goes - and how is that decision made? The German city of Coburg is grappling with that very question, as a petition circulates demanding that the town change its Coat of Arms, which is meant to depict the local patron saint, Saint Maurice, also known as the 'Moor' of Coburg.

In fact it is said some of them even fought to conquer Spain until it was taken back by the crusades, so in any case how is venerating one individual who did good for a community and is respected in memory racist just because the statue has some type of earring, haha go to east Africa and see how some of our people has piercing and its beautiful I think. To call for its removal as a racist element of society is just absurd. I believe energy should be channeled to more important matters of society.

The earrings were added in the 19th century and is the only part of the depiction that is actually somewhat connected to colonialism. However, the Saint is portrait very differently but I checked the petition by the woman in the video and she makes no distinction at all. For seemingly all are racist and considered that she thinks that one image with the earrings means all Africans look the same and that it signals exoticism and savagery/wildness, makes me suspect that she actually thinks that of Africans and she is projecting.

Alisha is seeking attention. Does she really need it? She should focus her attention on real problems like religions vs politics or the carbon footprint of the military industrial complex, corrupted governments... And many more.
Alisha should understand that suffering is universal.... Opposing ethnicity is a bit outdated. It's not that simple...

I think there is a society, and individuals exist there.
Individuals are born and die, but society continues.
If there are many groups in the society that have different individual positions, the friction between the groups inevitably increases.
Diversity is such a thing in essence, and in order to avoid conflict, constant cooperation is required. However, individual demands for freedom are endless, and many questions remain about whether a cooperative society can be realized.
What is happening in the US, which is said to be a "free country"?
